It's challenging living with one. And yes it's hereditary. My father died of asthmatic attack in 1999. We made sure we never lacked inhaler at home, a times we experience sleepless night when it gets triggered. My dad developed it during his 40s. We are six children and non of us have it yet and I pray we don't. Haven't seen what my siblings and my mom went through, I personally can't marry someone who is asthmatic. Asthmatic patients in Nigeria don't live quite long because of the toxic air we breathe in. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Let your spouse be seen by a pulmonologist or even a general practitioner who will monitor him, educate and give medications to reduce the frequency and severity of attacks. Asthma is not hereditary but it runs in families. I am asthmatic. I am a medical doctor. My parents are not asthmatic, neither is any of my siblings. My paternal grandfather and 2 uncles(now late) were Last attack I had was 5 years ago in 2014. I visited a relative who used old rugs and ceiling fans were consumed by dust. That was all...I was nebulized in the hospital and given medications. I have been attack free since then. That does not mean I cannot have an attack if I'm exposed to the allergens. Asthma is not curable 15 Likes 2 Shares |

You don't have any worries. I am sure he takes his preventive meds as at when due and maintains avoiding what triggers his attacks. What triggers a crisis in Mr A might not trigger Mr B. Overall good practice to avoid medically known triggers. Now coming to if you would have a normal life with your spouse I can confidently say from experience a big YES. Loads of people live with Asthma and some not even noticeable u till they tell you. I have been able to manage mine and so far no issues. The oza room duties are well taken care off if that's where you also want to know about. Of course if one can deal with that why not other duties in and around the house? So please go ahead and marry that love of your life. Congratulations!! 8 Likes |

You just have to be there for her always and make sure her inhaler is always beside her, i guess you might have watch Nigerian films that involves asthmatic patients in action, that's how it is in real life, the attack can come any time but she should be prayerful, it can be cured. |

spiceadole:I am mild asthmatic too or let me say I have allergy; meaning I am allergic to dust (I don't sweep nor enter a dusty room). Whenever I enter a room that nobody has lived for long, I will have mild attack like difficulty in breathing and once I take a ventolin tab, its over. So op, don't listen to people, asthma is not a big deal if the person understands how to manage it. I wasn't asthmatic from birth, it developed in my adulthood, how I can't tell. Not all asthmatic or people suffering from allergy got it from birth, some develop at adulthood. Athsma is not hereditary but like this poster rightfully said, it runs in family. The poster saying asthmatic people don't live long in Nigeria, WTF is that Me that will live like 98yrs plus in very good health more than Mugabe 11 Likes |

This guy is in love and that's cool.. Guys here will never discourage you from coping with your asthmatic Fiancee.. . I know feminist will not do the same if the case were to be reversed... My advice is that you speak with her.. You may need to see health practitioners for professional counseling Major problems in Asthmatic people are the triggers.. Once they can avoid their specific triggers, they are good to go.. I am sure she knows how to deal with them already... Also, I don't think it has any negative effect on pregnancy and childbirth... Does she use her inhaler regularly?? 2 Likes |

janeyjoys: Start her on prednisolone, sold under the Brand name Perilon. I used to use inhaler before, but man, that shit made my asthma worse. They said that the salbutamol releases a chemical in the lung that relives you, which is true, but it makes it your lung worse off. So, you practically become dependent on it. But I started using prednisolone, and I haven't used inhaler in months. Take two, morning and night for five days. See if there's any improvement. Please, tell her to also practice stomach breathing, because most asthma patients breath with their chest, very very bad. God bless. 2 Likes 2 Shares |

Amanda4life:Hahahahahaha fake news carriers, the doomsday town criers, what if you develop asthma tomorrow, does that mean people should run from you too Everybody is prone to asthma, not all asthmatic patients developed it from birth, some developed it at adulthood, it can kick off at any time, so don't be too sure that you are completely free of it before u go about blowing danger alarm lol I expect God forbid from u as a typical Nigerian 2 Likes |
