Thanks so much for following our progress. We used Force Toxin to eliminate the preys in the pond. Liming it after is to neutralize any lingering effect of the toxins.

I experienced it first hand brother and since then in 2007 I have been very careful with earthen ponds. I lost over 20,000 grow outs at 4 months. The risk is far lesser and none at all during the months running from November to May. Once the months of July to October set in the risk of flooding is exceedingly high. You take all the safety measures but flooding from the rivers cannot be controlled. What do you do when the rains fall non stop for 7 days?
Earthen ponds are the best for grow outs but safety wise concrete ponds and the others are far safer.

Must this Earthen pond be located close to a River? If yes, why? Can it be located in a dry place and water sources from borehole, well?

As long as you have a stable water source.. borehole is fine.. but I dont consider well to be an option

Well may dry up depending on season.. and it may not be able to provide the amount of water needed for the pond

the main reason earth ponds are sited near river is because of the type of soil,heavy clay soil is needed for water retention,if you site your pond on a Sandy loam soil with good drainage it will not work, even if you use industrial water pump to be pumping water it will simply be draining down.

So today I decided to make a little research on the area I have land available (the nature of the soil, water source and security) and I was informed of a large fish pond somewhere inside inside inside the village, close to the stream. I decided to check it out (2 hours non-stop trekking) eventually I got there and wow, it was a beauty. The owner of the fish pond also came around and he didn't want us to look around the farm or even take pictures, even after explaining myself to him. If I could I would have stolen the farm with my eyes. It has over 30 earthen ponds and the onset said one can contain over 15 thousands fingers. But one thing he said that I wanted to ask my here is that the earthen pond isn't for beginners, that beginners should start with tapoleen. How true is this, because I want to start with this earthen pond. Meanwhile check out the size of the farm through Google map.

Can you please tell us the cost of labour and other cost incured.
I want to construct something similar to this in the south west, but am contemplating between using manual labour or excavator.
