There were about 12,000 helicopters that served in the Vietnam War (specific tail numbers for 11,827 from all services), out of which 5,086 were destroyed.

Soviet-Afgan War lasted from 1979–89. (10yrs)

In total, at least 333 helicopters and 118 jets crashed during the war.

Can the Nigerian Army afford this losses ?

Chinooks and Apaches r used as evacuation and troop deployment vehicles by the United States military.

A simple Bell's Helicopter cost around $20M

Even the small display air force wanted to do last year ended up being a disaster we only have about 3 serviceable F7 in the entire country after that incident.

Let's not overemphasize this issue on this thread, the Nigerian Army is not the only Army in the world engaged in one form of warfare or the other there are other nations as well and we are not the only ones affected by BH Terrorist in Africa.
The minimum age requirement for SSC and DSSC is 20 years as such every applicant is an adult who are fully aware of what being an Army officer entails in times such as these.

Whether we like it or not if necessary stuffs are not put in place then there is no way we can win this war. As ugo pointed out that the main problem is funding.. Now looking at some scenarios for the past years( escpecially dasuki gate) and the issue of 400 million naira carted away by some soldiers oh boy will still have a long way to go. I believe everything is like this because of lack of vision. We have old cargos that are rigid, they don't want to go in the direction of the Western World. There are things you don't joke with especially the Armed forces of a particular country that's why the likes of USA, Russia and the rest are dominant because they have visionary leaders and leaders that knows the essence of security and defence.

If the FG doesn't make the right decision concerning funding the Armed forces and check if the money was spent appropriately then they are just wasting lives of troops in the battlefront. Nobody should come and tell me say money no dey this country, money dey we just have to get our acts right and do the right thing.

Managing won't get us anywhere,someone just need to talk sense into these politicians. Imagine managing a war that your other opponent is armed to the teeth. A lot of guys on this platform really want a change but the question is would you be allowed to make that change. I don't really blame officers dashing out, it not their fault. Just imagine you fighting someone that is being paid 3k dolls while some generals are busy slashing officers salary.

I was lucky to discover this thread a couple of days back. I've been reading through the pages, right from he very first page and down to current page. I saw the passion, enthusiam, and never-give-up spirit of the individuals here. I'm really inspired and motivated.

This will be my time applying for the the SSC course. Albeit, I've been waiting for this day since my university days. Just my NYSC this July.

During my junior days, I tried so much to make it into the Nigerian Military School, Zaria. I got to the interview but didn't make the final list. I was so passionate then to the extent that i was ready to start secondary school from scratch (JSS 1) again, even though i was already moving on to SSS 1 at that time. And when the time came for me to move on to tertiary institution, my parents insisted that i get my degree first, even though i'd coveted admission into NDA so much.

But now, i'm ready for this. I pray I make the first list.

Please guys, anyone knows when navy will take recruit ratings? Or when do they normally do it? So that he can anticipate for it.
