There was nothing wrong with GEJ privatising power.

What was wrong was that he passed a law that in essence made government to set prices for DISCOS. As a result DISCOS are not earning enough (one has even declared force majeure and pulled out).

Economics cannot be run on price controls. Infact it is this price control mechanisim that GEJ put in place (with good intentions, but bad economics)...that is preventing foreign and even local investment in power.

Then there is the fact most Nigerians don't pay for power...making things much harder.

Transmission is in the hands og government so they have to build stuff.

As for generation...yes, there is a government project to improve generation...that is in essence public private. Most of the exisitng generation has been privatised...and is dependent on income generated by DISCOS who cannot generate enough income because price control mechanisms brought in by government as well as poor payment by Nigerians (in some areas less than 50% of people actively pay power bills).

It more than shameful, that in 2019, Nigeria, the most populous black nation on earth is still battling with epileptic power supply. A whole whopping 9billion on generators, smh, it sickening. Other serious Countries have moved on to more serious issues(nuclear, green revolution, large scale industrialization, cutting edge researches). Shame!!!

So Tinubu that owns Eko Disco is now Jonathan's crony ? So DISCOs where not under his control but he championed their call for increase in tariff as a requisite for better electricity a promise they failed to keep to !!!! When the gencos told Fashola that the DISCOs where reject upto 70% percent of electricity wheeled their way what did he do?

Please stop defending that hopeless liar and failure called Fashola please ..so was it also Jonathans cronies that stopped him from completing a mere 35 kms Lekki Epe road despite spending 50 billion Naira and Earning billions more from the toll gate? A man that can't complete a mere 35 kms road with 50 billion can never achieve any other project !!!!

Anyone with hope that this country will get better is just fooling themselves. Even the government does not believe in a better Nigeria....lol.

Actually there is a way...allow DISCOS to charge whatever they want to charge for power...that would be enough for them to adequately pay GENCOS..AND AGRESSIVELY meter everyone.

Also, let's be frank...those Nigerians who don't pay for power have to pay their power bills. The kind of situation where someone chasing DISCO officals with machete away from disconnecting him for not paying for the power he uses...is regarded as a hero...is wrong.(And is making things harder for those of us who do pay.).

Fashola was confident because he did it in Lagos. Govt is still generating and transmiting power bv the discos lack the capacities to distribute.

So Nigerians should be left at the mercies of the DISCOS, who if given the opportunity to increase tariff to #1million per KW, would still find excuses for their failures to provide constant power supply?
Do you expect people to pay exorbitant bills for a service they never enjoyed or are you not aware most consumers are on estimated billings?
Since you're the spokesperson of the DISCOS, tell them to provide prepaid meters to their customers and they can go ahead to increase their tariff. At least by then, it would be impossible to owe them.
