Do you expect people to pay exorbitant bills for a service they never enjoyed or are you not aware most consumers are on estimated billings?
Since you're the spokesperson of the DISCOS, tell them to provide prepaid meters to their customers and they can go ahead to increase their tariff. At least by then, it would be impossible to owe them.

But one thing I know...once upon a time, we paid sky high prcies for GSM services....which were very poor back then, and thanks to the government not intervening,. the GSM companies made a profit...which they then invested in new equipment.

Which is why you and I can type this from home, instead of back in 2005...going to an internet cafe, and spending money for the privilege of all night browsing.

If DISCOS are allowed to charge what they want....YES , we will pay high prices...but like GSM, the money will flow in and investment would rise, power generation will rise..and then prices would fall.

We generate 7000mw on a good day. Lagos as at 2010 needed 10000MW. Where are we going to get the money? Why did you people keep quiet when GEJ offered you the chance to say NO to the disco privatisation?? Why are you grumbling about it.?? Did you exepct DISCOS to be bought and run by Mother Theresa clones??

Actually there is a way...allow DISCOS to charge whatever they want to charge for power...that would be enough for them to adequately pay GENCOS..AND AGRESSIVELY meter everyone.

Also, let's be frank...those Nigerians who don't pay for power have to pay their power bills. The kind of situation where someone chasing DISCO officals with machete away from disconnecting him for not paying for the power he uses...is regarded as a hero...is wrong.(And is making things harder for those of us who do pay.).

Would you blame those chasing them with cutlass ? When they don't get value for money frustration sets in. There was a time in my area when supply was efficient. I got to d PHCN office to pay, you need to see crowd queuing to pay dia bills. We were even told to choose tally numbers. So any politician telling you he is gonna do that and this, please ask him how he/she could achieve that withour electricity. Even when you don't have a good job, if you get constant power supply, in the house, you will still be happy
