Lollllz.

I know where he saw that report. It was CNN report. He didn't fully understand the statistics. He is citing the CNN report in a circumstance that is clearly misleading to us here on nairaland.

We are gearing up for basic military training. If things are done rightly, nobody is supposed to die in basic training.

The type of death reported by CNN did NOT single out basic soldier training (the type we are preparing for). The report rather sum up all type of training death most of which occur when they are already inducted or commissioned. Again the report did not cite army specifically, it summed up death from all the service branches.

Look can you compare the circumstances of a pilot who died in flying training to that of a cadet who was wrongly rough handled and denied quick basic medical attention?

I do not agree that so many people died in basic training. Most of the death reported in the CNN report happened during post basic military training (e.g air crash, marine related mishap, weapon handling accidents).

Interesting. I didn't know you've been appointed as a US military spokesperson until now. If you haven't done any proper research on the matter your points aren't factual and unjustified. Go and do you homework very well first, then you can come back to talk

Human life is precious. It is highly insensitive for any officer to publicly proclaim that they expect certain percentage of human being to die off. I swear, Nigeria is a jungle, that's why a supposedly educated human being will spill such words from his mouth.

As per your lie lie research info, do you think we are kids here? So if someone should tell you more Americans die in army training than in actual combat you will believe such naked lie? For your information, the commandant of any American basic military training institution will answer questions if any human being die in training. If the death is not by accident, anybody responsible for such death, will be punished. Even in combat actions, field commanders have no right to jeopardize the life of soldiers under them. Do you think America is a banana republic like Nigeria?

Sure.
As far as Nigerian army is concerned, having casualties during training is very much expected.
As long as it doesn't surpass a certain number, nobody will setup any board of inquiry on what went wrong. That's why they hardly compromise their medical standards, if you use long leg to beat medicals when you have any kind of ailment, you can't escape the rigours of training which could be fatal to your health.
Some years ago a cadet at NDA drowned in Kaduna during one of the training exercises, it was fishermen that even retrieved his body with a fish hook. The guys dad was a house of representatives member as of then, he used his position to push for investigation into the matter thinking his son was used to settle scores. Till today nothing happened, they'll just bury such a one as a commissioned officer shikenan. Them no send anybody oo, some of you should go and read lebete3000 experience during training DSSC Course 24., and have a tip of what to expect, army no get time to pamper anybody oo!!. As long as you're fit you're good to go, Moreover women dey go the training come out successful.

His dad was an air force senior officer not a politician...his name was cadet El shadai and he was 18 years old..
Plus because his death was chucked to negligence, a sum of so so so something thousand dollars was paid to the family but not from the fg..

I read lebete3000 story.
His own was an accident which was not self inflicted nor due to his health.....it was caused by a third party.

On that note the army was suppose to take care of him which they didn't and that was what pained the chairman.

Actually, his father is a retired general. You can't beat the army in any training casualty cases, whether justified or unjustified. Even from ordinary screening onward, you are army property o. Check the declaration section in your forms.

On the unfortunate tragedy of the general's son (it's quite pitiful that the lad was just 17yrs), the nda was actually at fault, when you consider what really happened during the incident very well. The instructor must be a sadist to have pushed the guy into the deep river out of anger without any life support which was normally required for the training.

There are many of such sadistic officers in the army. Even at ordinary NMS, a JSS3 boy was flogged to death in the guard room by one Lieutenant Orji (a lady officer) in 2013 towards Easter break. The boy's father is a former Kano State Chief Judge. Being a legal man now, the man pursued the case even up to DHQ, but army refused to take up the case, but only sent guard of honour to the burial and covered up the case, shielding the Lieutenant.

See, if you die under nigerian army custody, justified or not, army will not allow any case filing that will rubbish her reputation. If your mind is not made for this thing just forget it. To wear camo no be by force. If las las u sha won wear uniform, police dey, civil defence dey, frsc dey o.

military training. If things are done rightly, nobody is supposed to die in basic training

No mago mago during selection, medicals, I have read stories of individuals who did not meet the required height range and were still admitted, short or long sightedness, heart problems, (someone told me abt HIV, still having some doubts).
If the right thing is done during military training, person no go die,

Military training is like extreme physicals for footballers during the off season, I have played amateur ( lower division) football in Nigeria, the training and matches no be here and people no dey die.

Nigeria is a country where anything goes, how can u be flogging people with cable wire during training, Wat is the purpose, there are ways to punish erring soldiers, dismissal is an option, but in Nigeria, soldiers r seen as Fools / zombie, I have people in the United States Navy (they r not officers) and no one is flogged during training.

During training, a Bell is made available, to quit just ring the bell and u will be removed, There is a standardized way of doing things, I did Military psychology during my undergraduate days and for my msc, industrial psychology, I know wat it means to choose the right man for the right job, don't tell me shit abt the stupid attitude of those soldiers who will always bribe their way to remain as instructors instead of heading to the battle field.
We're in Nigeria we should face our own reality, all this talk no concern NA.
New Regular cadets are asked to come with golf sticks on paper it's supposed to be for sports but in reality they use those sticks on their heads, if you think say I dey lie, ask anybody for Afaka. They authorities has stopped planting of heads but seniors will still corner you and "ci ubanka" as dey like and nothing will happen.

Funny you comparing military training to football training even those days in my Alma mata. When you are told to fix up with 8 pouches, fully socked in cook house gutter and then ready for some good chowing then you will understand that the military isn’t for babies grin. Many are called but few are chosen

Those instructors in Nigeria need Psychological and military reorientation, how can you be flogging someone, sergeant dagger, I think currently Captain dagger is known to whip trainees during training but in the United States, Instructors advice trainees to quit, telling them that their pain will go away if they just ring the bell, that's
using PSYCHOLOGY.

With this, understand the mindset of these instructors and who can u hand over ur ward to.
major dagger...mans been promoted since....if to say na that man dey instruct NDA ehn, more cadets will turn up dead..

I have one answer for you always read non disclosure documents properly before you sign so you don’t come here and cry wolf or fowl. If you think the training is improper my brother go and join man o war or boys scout simple.

Putin007:
My dear man, wit this mindset, within ur self, visualize the type of instructor u will be in the future , one who his boys will be willing to run through razor wire for or one whose boys will be afraid to approach in the time trouble.

Military isn't for babies, my foot,

Failure doesn't mean u failed, it means u ain't good enough for now .

Do u know have many soldiers who fail Navy Seal training, I mean battle hardened combatants will u call them babies, Accept the fact that there is no due process in Nigeria,

A nairalander once wrote abt how he was beaten when a trainee struck something in his eye, just imagine, a future soldier who in the future, might borrow u a magazine when u run out of one in the frontlines,

Lemme tell you, most of our KIA's who were shot in the back might have something to do with the maltreatment of soldiers.
