I was also surprised by some of the unfair criticism on some of the players. Like, the refuse to acknowledge the good that they did and focus on the bad. making it seem like they had a bad game all through.

Honestly, I am not sold on Maduka. He looked jittery, and didn't have much to do. That being said, I don't think we have enough to fault his game, cos the Nigerian team was under a lot of pressure. He deserves another chance though. For those suggesting Ezenwa should have been called upon instead, I think you should fold your arms an wait. A good number of us here have repeatedly faulted Maduka' s call-up, so it's only reasonable that Rohr features him, perhaps there is something he sees in the guy, we are not seeing. Perhaps there are still some stuffs he's not completely clueless about . For Aribo, although the guy looks good, for the last 2 games the guy faded away for a large part of the second half. If you ask me, I think that's a problem, but again the whole team was bad during that period of storm. It could either be tactics (lack of continuity over two halves) or just the way he plays. I would assume it's the former though given his moment of brilliance late in the game, although even the worst of players are allowed to be brilliant momentarily. We really need that number 10. Iwobi has been consistently disappearing these days. Chukwueze, such a talented young chap, overconfidence will not kill you. In situations where the right back matches you pace for pace, only your decisions can put you over the hump. I liked Ajayi's burst forward into the midfield area but you better be sure of what you are doing man . Ekong, as usual what can say, the guy has grown into his role at the heart of the defence. Ndidi, floor general manhandling the samba boys earlier on in the midfield. Awaziem, solid overall, impressed by his timely defending generally, didn't impress much on the offensive though. Jamilu was not quite good overall, but he had his moments defensively. Osimhen, teriffic upfront. I said it a while ago, he can be devastating when he moves around, wide sometimes. Onuachu, i guess he was brought in to bring the brazilian backline under pressure, by feeding off long balls, but he was literally running around like he had a boil on his balls . Moses wasn't good, but he wasn't terrible either. He needs to add more spices to his game. He was helping out defensively, that's good when you are not doing too well upfront, and that assist was timely, he passed it when there was just enough space for Aribo to penetrate. Usually, for every team there is a period of storm within a match, but finding a way to weather the storm, when it starts mounting is a quality of a good coach. Rohr has mostly failed in that aspect so far. It's becoming a trend. I don't like Rohr, he stagnates a lot, I would think that's the limit of his understanding of the game, and he has not evolved much with this team, I guess we can blame old age for that .He manages to get some decent results though. Rohr predicts ‘good future’ for his young Super Eagles after Brazil draw



The West Africans surprisingly held the five-time world champions and the German tactician is pleased with the feat

Nigeria national team coach Gernot Rohr believes the Super Eagles have ‘good future’ after they played out a 1-1 draw against Brazil in Sunday’s international friendly in Singapore.

The 66-year-old German tactician paraded a young team against the five-time world champions, following a spate of withdrawals by some of his experienced players, including captain Ahmed Musa.

The team, however, gave a good account of themselves with Joe Aribo - making his second appearance for the Super Eagles - scoring the opening goal in the 35th minute before Casemiro’s second-half effort saved the South American champions from defeat.

The draw is the second in a row for the Brazilians after they were held by Senegal in Thursday’s friendly outing.

Rohr is impressed with the performance of his side but admitted the three-time African champions still have to improve.

"It was tough for us as the second game because Brazil would not have wanted to leave Singapore without winning, and it feels very good to know that we can play so well against some of the biggest names in football,” Rohr said in a post-match press conference.

"We didn't have our best team here, but our wingers gave Brazil a lot of problems on the counter-attack and I am proud of our players. They can have a good future.

"We can still improve in defending set-pieces. We have height, with players as tall as two metres, but we have to be better in the air.

"It is not enough just to have good size, they need to jump well with good timing.”


Rohr believes African football is improving after both Nigeria and Senegal avoided defeat against the world number three.

"These results are good for African football when Senegal and Nigeria did not lose to Brazil, one of the strongest teams in the world," he added.

Nigeria will hope to secure good results when they take on Benin Republic and Lesotho in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying games in November.
