ugo4u:ohh I've heard that story alot, just yesterday one came visiting me and was narrating his ordeal I feel sorry for most of them. I pray God continues to protect our soldiers Most of them are highly motivated, though not professionally trained as one will expect but their fighting spirit is tremendous But you see the red necks.the are our problems Many of them go for courses abroad the see advance equipments. The even take pictures in them and post online But bringing such to their own country is forbidden The thrive on the ignorance of our law makers and president on key military matters, present whatever inferior equipment for commisoning and send them over to the NE for soldiers to be slaughtered in The BH insurgency cannot be won overnight, that's the truth it's going to be a long war The insurgents keep adapting and restrategising Why is it difficult for the military to do same?? |

Sir, that amphibious training is part of Exercise Camp Highland, which SSC cadets normally participate in together with final year RC cadets, in Kontagura Niger State. ugo4u: |

Re: Nigerian Army SSC And DSSC 2016/2017 Forum by ugo4u: 6:50pm On Oct 14, 2019 |
Uwaomaokey:Someone said they do go for swimming exercise during camp highlander. Why I said I'm ain't sure they attend is because those RC guys proudly wear amphibious badge and Airborne badge, why their SSC counterparts go around with naked uniform save for the tiny star on their shoulders. 2 Likes |

I have always wondered. Why short service combatant or direct short service course (SSC or DSSC)? The USA has something similar called the officer candidate school (OCS) for would be officers that had graduated from civilian universities. And this applies to all the arms of service; Army, Navy, Air force and the Marine Corps. The graduates of the OCS are given the same treatments as the graduates of the military academies (namely; USMA West point, USNA Annapolis and USAF Colorado). Both OCS and military academy graduates undertake the same courses (in the course of their careers) and are promoted on equal basis. There is also no limit to which the OCS graduates can advance in their service. This ensures equality and removes favoritism and unnecessary politicking. Our Generals surely know thus but still insist on sticking with an archaic system. It beats me why? Why not convert our SSCs and DSSCs to Officer Candidate School (OCS) and let every graduate from the OCS be given equal opportunity for advancement (depending on career trajectory and choice of the officer)? Its just my two cents though 4 Likes |

SFcommander1: I think a doctrinal change is needed in NA training. Phrases that demean civilian like "bloody civilian" ought to be blotted out and labelled a hate speech. And yes, it ought to. Any talk or training that considers civilians as worthless should be discouraged and outrightly expunged from the curriculum. The civilians pay taxes to sustain the army and thus should be treated with the utmost respect and dignity. A strong soldier isn't by how you oppress those you are meant to protect but by been a gentleman that is ready to kill and die defending the weak and vulnerable. And yes, some of us here have not even started the training but I see some traces of "oppressive mentality" in our words and actions. Big props up to Ugo4u for arguing intelligently and with respect. Its rare on Nairaland these days. Someone once posted the story of how a DSSC candidate was maltreated in training despite his injuries. A country that values the life and the mental well being of it's would be officers would bring the perpetrators of such inhumane act to book. Military training g or not, they went above board. An injured soldier (even if captured as a POW in war) has a right to good treatment as stipulated by the Geneva Convention not to talk of getting injured in a training exercise and being blamed for it. It was sad really 6 Likes |
