What are the cultural implications of left in your traditional cosmology? Why is it feared so much, what punishment is associated with left. It's like right signifies sun, or good while left means evil, demon, satan. A couple posted a pre wedding photo once and the fiancee was so scared of left she actually stood on the right side of the groom, making their tshirts out of sync. The fear was palpable. Is it a witchcraft thing? |

I should care if someone accuses me of "left" with the kind of determination that indicates it's a real crime. In this day and age. So, I'm wondering. And very disturbed by the fact there have been almost no responses at all, maybe due to fear? I be abami ni? Need to know. |

Breaststroke: 1. I've noticed a deep fear among Edo folks, especially Benin (perhaps the ones on nairaland?) about the word "left". They seem to associate it with everything bad and some intense evil. 2. I was called "left" by somebody I assume to be from Edo, he seemed to feel that was the highest insult he could give me, almost like accusing me of a crime or some derogatory stuff.(How can left be a worse epithet than prostitute, I wonder?) 3. There's a thread somewhere, a nler was warning some unknown folks about the dangers of meddling with or attacking a "left", he said they cant win. 4. Etc etc, like the photo where the fiancee stood to the right of the fiance instead of his left and their matching tshirts were out of sync because of this. It's all very strange. |
