If u no chop rice u go die ni? quote author=gaetano post=83133233] You sign #AfCFTA, and then close your border, and then "completely" close the border. All the while, ignoring that you've lost the ability (for years now), to effectively police the borders. if you want to ban a commodity, you have to factor in the demand of the commodity and how much your people rely on it. You don't go and ban importation of Rice when the indigenous farmers don't have the necessary quantity demanded by the nationals. There should have been a timeframe before such is implemented We go learn by force. Hardship will go round. [/quote] |

naptu2: I have never supported PMB's leadership approach but this border closure is the best decision he has taken. If Nigerians want to gain back it respect from committee of Nations and indeed Africa such calculated policies as this are needed. we have this foods been imported obnoxiously, we are just too scared or should I say do not trust our own products. The foreign goods are not better than ours. We need to buy, eat and wear ours. Nonetheless, this policy will be useless if we there is no concerted effort to tackle inflation of prices by Nigerians. To this end I think the government should rejig the price monitoring agencies to get on their toes to forestall exploitative tendencies of the market. |

Its obvious, Buhari has never been in charge of his government. What are not obvious to me are the reasons he selected some of his ministers and aids. All over the world, governments chose the best to work for them. And when they do not have the best, they import the best from other countries. There is a pressure from every government to perfume well and ease the pain of suffering from the citizens, but not the Buhari government. The government get pass on everything and every scandals. Most often, the government do not need to dish out dish out excuses, The people make excuses for the government thus you rarely see government media aide spokesman. The press has been weakened, and terrorized, killed and buried so right now we rely on foreign media like CNN and BBC to tell us exactly what is going on in our country. Nigerian see government as a means to enrich themselves individually. Business and trade deals are going on worldwide. It took Nigeria months to caught up with others on Africa trade zone. The reaaon being that our people didn't pay attention or were not aware of what was going on. South Africa and Rwanda was at the fore front. The rate by which Nigeria is going down, she has crossed the lowest bar to a point of No return. Right now, Nigeria economy works for the politicians only. They government borrow money to fund their life styles and tax the people to their penury. We are running a government where the custom boss, can decide, out of his beer parlor discussions to ban on legal or illegal goods from coming in or going out of the country without considering the negative impacts it will have on the economy. The country now borrows more money than anytime in history. They now also generate less incomes than anytime in history. The less business strategy is closure of borders. But do they really care? No. They take foreign loans to fund their life styles and their supporters cheer them up and make excuses for them. Nigerians are already down. Unemployment is high. Businesses are down because of either bad roads or lack of electricity. The middle class some how has been cut off and their is low patronage of services and businesses. |

You close the border to encourage farmers from the north, you don't allow rice, vegetable oil, tomatoes etc to come in. That is good for the economy, but why do you still allow palm oil which is majorly produced in the ss/se to be coming into the country from malaysia and ghana through the porous border of niger republic. Are farmers from ss/se too not to be encouraged? Go to kano state and other parts of north you will see imported palm oil from ghana littered everywhere. Pls do the right thing. |

Fragility6: I voted for him and he's doing exactly the right thing. LAND borders closure will not only curb smuggling of rice, cars, cloth but will also curb smuggling of small arms and ammunitions by the terrorists, bandits, kidnappers and militants. It also curbs the smuggling of subsidised petrol out of the country to neighbouring countries. Until Nigeria and her neighbours agreed on the way forward (solution), let it remain closed. If you have something to import, go through seaports and airports and pay the duties and tariffs to Nigerian government instead of growing the neighbouring countries economy at our expense |

maasoap:Of all the positive business going through borders na smuggling be the only thing u see. Is dere any border in this world dat smuggling doesn't occur? Even with the bad blood between mexico n Trump, none of dem close border. US only became more Strict with dier check-in. Nigeria wit a clueless leader say e own na otherwise. Guy bag of rice 50k for a bag, maize 9k for bag as at 5k for imported, fairy used mobile phones would no longer be cuming thru d border n u know wat happens to the sellers, no job yet diz man is trying to make more pple jobless n broke. No let anybody decieve do ur research, D border-closure has done far more harm dan good. Have u heard Nigeria manufactures ar complaining too? |

lovemoi2: Government is trying to forcefully create demand for locally produced items, jobless youth are complaining on social media instead of taking this advantage. I'm tired of them. The only thing they're good at is wailing endlessly. The market for chicken, turkey, rice, tomatoes and other agricultural products is now limitless |

Fragility6: Complaining of not being able to get smuggled raw materials any more? That's a good development, they should start getting their raw materials through proper channels by paying the necessary duties and tariffs. We can't continue like that, it helped no one. |

maasoap:The goods passing through normal process in the border has the government come out to give account of it affects our economy? Since buhari entered office we are yet to get any positive. From increasing electricity tariffs to VAT n other ill-advised decisions they've made. How does increasing electricity tariffs solve d light issue? Has ur improved. Hw does closing borders solve smuggling? Remind me again the present nobel laurete winner won the award based on what? Opening its border was one of d plus |

maasoap:Are you talking back and forth? Are you not the one claiming it solved smuggling problems? Cant u see the negatives of the border closure. The negatives outweighs the positive by far. I dare you 2 name five positives this border closure has done |
