The Legend, Fela Kuti Turns 81 today (Posthumous Birthday) Fela Anikulapo Kuti (15 October 1938 – 2 August 1997), also professionally known as Fela Kuti, or simply Fela, was a Nigerian multi-instrumentalist, musician, composer, pioneer of the Afrobeat music genre and human rights activist. At the height of his popularity, he was referred to as one of Africa's most "challenging and charismatic music performers". https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fela_Kuti https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtiAnjtYdwo 15 Likes 8 Shares

And Bubu says he's 70 what? If Fela is 80yrs(posthumous) how can Buhari be less than 87yrs? Fela hated Buhari like no other. Buhari is truly in animal skin. 45 Likes 4 Shares |

Fela Kuti, a great musical icon that used his music to challenge irresponsible leadership. Today, music in Nigeria is all about pleasure and kowtow. The radical Fela spirit has been abandoned. The like of Fela Kuti, Gani Fawehinmi, etc rescued Nigeria from shackles of military predation. Today, no one is ready to sacrifice their comfort for the general good. 15 Likes 2 Shares |

BlackfireX:Hold on, we are waiting for the right answer to give you.. No run ooo... Modify : Due to The celebration of life for Baba 70, we decided to play it cool and gentle ( eventhough Baba sang 'him no be gentleman at all at all'!) Perhaps: you are one of the indomie generation who truly do not know who FELA is. Below is a brief intro of Baba.... 22 Likes 4 Shares

The most fearless activist we have ever had in the history of Nigeria. I would say Fela's activism is aided by some sort of madness, but that is what made him better. He never ran away from a fight. Always waiting to see what will happen because he had death in his pocket. I sometimes envy his family. Funmilayo Kuti, Beko Kuti, koye and Wole Soyinka. They had greatness born with them in that family and Ogun state as a whole 22 Likes 2 Shares |

BlackfireX: Wow...you don't know. OK brief introduction to FELA Fela was born 81 years ago into the house of Ransome-Kuti. His father was a leading educationalist, while his mother was an early Nigerian femminist and activist (and one of the first women to own a car in Nigeria) Fela had several siblings including the human rights activist Beko Ransome-Kuti, the distngushed doctor , academic and ex Minister of Health, Olikoye Ransome Kuti. He also had a niece, the daughter of his elder sister Frances Kuboye who was also a musician like him. Fela burst into prominence with his band Koola Lobitos in the 1960's, which he then changed the name to AFRIKA70 in 1970 to reflect his increased interest in pan-africanist ideology. He also changed his name from Ransome-Kuti to FELA Anikulapo-kuti. He was an activist and a severe social critic, who frequently blasted the governments of the day, which most of the time ended with him being jailed and imprisioned. Also, an attack on his residence and perfomance center the Afrika Shrine in 1978 by 'Unknown soldiers' led to the death of his mother. He also was a promoter of smoking Indian Hemp. He was married to many wives and hand many children, including Femi Anikulapo-Kuti (a muscian and founder of the Posiitve Force band) and Seun Kuti (currently leading the Afrika 70 now Egypt 80 band in his father's place) He died in 1997 due to complications from AIDS. Here he is in concert with VIP...Vagabonds in Power! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bpThXP9f8I 10 Likes 1 Share |
