Nihilist keeps dragging us to the team achievement axis of the discussion.

I say we drag his arse to the personal achievement axis of the discussion which is the valid discussion in the first place.

No time for ejo wewe

Have you ever seen a league match where a team lost, but one of their players was awarded the 3 points?

Have you ever watched a knockout match, where the losing team was sent home, but one of their players advanced to the next round?

If the most basic rules of football dont recognise individual effort, then what is your point?

You have to win the team achievement first, before we say ok, you have the basics, lets look at you individually.

Otherwise Susaeta with 51 assists > Xavi with 41

OK.

Ronaldo should win his by mistake. It's not all the time Eder and Guedea should rescue him

Ronaldo has two trophies for Portugal.

They dont know Messi in Buenos Aires

Lol

Some day we are going to have a debate about whom they know more and love more in their countries, Messi in Buenos Aires or Ronaldo in Lisbon?

But for today, we are looking for the greater player Messi or Ronaldo?

cheesy

I disagree Bro.

In comparing 2 players, both individual successes and team successes must be assessed.

But it must never be 50-50 since we're comparing 2 individuals not 2 teams.

It must be weighted higher for individual successes, something like 60-40 or even 70-30.

Ronaldo won the Euros yet there still exists a GOAT debate,
That debate dies the very moment Messi wins Copa America.

Powers that be are doing everything they can to make this happen for your boy, but the guy no wan comply.

1.They are hosting Copa America 2020 in Argentina
2. They invited Australia and Qatar to compete - in a 'south american' competition - like WTF? grin grin

I wont be surprised in CONMEBOL insist that the Australian team field actual kangaroos on the pitch.

If Messi doesnt win this one, then yall need to rest forever

.

You cant even get to Balon Dor conversation without your team winning something. If not Harry Kane would have been climbing podium every year.

You must qualify with team achievement, before we look at your individual exploits

How can you be the Greatest of All Time, if you're not even regarded as the greatest in your hood?

You have to be number 1 in 234, before you claim world chairman.

I have to disagree with you here chief. De lima with all his injury problems was more talented and better than Messi. If de lima career wasn't bleeped up by injuries he would have been the only O.G in world football for ever.

This is sacrilege. This is blasphemy.

Only Ronaldinho and Maradona come close to Messi in terms of talent.

Okay, till then.

But for now he's still the GOAT by majority of world fans, 60 percent at least (Not nairaland fans)

We only need him to win Copa America to get it to 90 percent.

We don't need no mere Mayweather style out-punching and out-pointing,
we need Tyson style knock out.

Pele, De Lima and Ronaldo have got the same style. More finishing less finesse.

Maradona, Ronaldinho and Messi are one style.
More finesse less finishing.

Where Messi gets his GOAT acclaim is the outrageous level of finesse as well as finishing.

Lol De Lima and cristiano don't have the same style. De Lima was the complete package. 100% finishing mixed with 100% finessing. Basically a Ronaldinho(flair, skills, tricks) mixed with cristiano ronaldo(Finishing ability).

The way some of you argue eh... Some of you will just get up and insult a player using talent. Let me tell you all something, TALENT IS NOTHING WITHOUT HARDWORK... Messi works hard, fucking hard infact the way I see it, talented people work harder than normal people.
Messi had to learn and master free kicks, hard training, he had to master those his passes, hard training.
C. Ronaldo had to master his shooting especially those his 1st time shots, hard training.
Ronaldo de Lima had to master his finishing, do think those his feints when one on one with goalkeeper was cos he was talented? He had trained and mastered it for it to be effective on the field.
This argument on talent is rubbish, don't insult talent for you to win Ballon d' or or FIFA the best in any era you must work hard, extremely hard

Lemme summarise De Lima to you.

Blistering speed, Multiple leg overs and boom!
Goalie is retrieving the ball from his net.

That was De Lima.

Nothing more, Nothing less.

Lol prime Maradonna and de Lima will piss all over this era.

The Serie A of the 80's and 90's was like watching teeth being pulled unless you were being treated to a proper, top class attacker or forward because the defenses were so good, tactical and cynical, that nothing but the top brass could get any change out of them.

Batistusta, Baggio, Del Piero and so forth had it really hard and it was a genuine acheivement for a lone player to outfox such a collection of mean, hard-nosed defenders who played every game like their life depended on it. Ask kimbeast or any person who watched Seria a then.

That's why when Ronaldo went there and ripped the piss out of the league it caused an absolute uproar. Before he got there all the defenders and football experts were saying he'd not be the same player in Italy as he was in Spain because he wouldn't be allowed to play in the same manner. They were right. He was even better in Italy than he was in Spain because he became a playmaker and link man as well as the goal-scorer, whilst in Spain, it was all about giving Ronaldo the ball and watching him run to goal and convert. Do you research on why Maradonna is called a demi god in Naples.

The likes of Van Basten and Gullit were booted and kicked so frequently in Serie A that it forced early retirement for Van basten who retired 29 and caused Gullit to have countless time out with one injury or another. It was a mean, hard-nosed league. Doing the business there carried more merit than any other league.

The late 80's and 90's Serie A may have had the biggest concentration of imported, world-class talent a league has ever seen. It was the place to be if you wanted to make your mark and sides in Spain and England had to do a lot more AND beat at least a couple of Italian teams to be taken seriously.
When United beat Juventus of the mid 90's, who were seen as the best side in the world, it catapulted us to a completely new level of world renown and global recognition as a footballing force. It announced us as big time player again.

If the likes of Shearer and Bergkamp had done what they did in Italy rather than England at that time they'd be held in much higher regard now than just good players.

Ronaldo going there and shaking that league to the core was like something out of a science fiction flick. Maradonna at Napoli also. Before and after Maradonna Napoli are shitts. If you think these O.G's won't rip apart this silly era I nothing to say to you.
