Holding a vigil is the one where you stay up all night for a particular reason

Then "vigil" is a Catholic celebration day

So when you want to specify that its the first one, you'll say "all-night vigil"

Vigil is at night only.
See the dictionary meaning: A period of keeping awake during the time usually spent asleep. Usually to keep watch or pray.
