Taking Nigeria as a case study, if you are not a Jehovah’s Witness, you must have heard from some pastors or some other Christians like you about how the Jehovah’s Witnesses teach the wrong gospel. You must have heard them say that they use the wrong Bible. They must have told you to kick them out of your house or never let them in. They might have even told you that listening to them could lead you to Hell Fire.

My view about them changed when I related with one of them during an external tutorial class. There was a single guy among the rest in a mixed class of Christians and Muslims. This guy was the only Jehovah’s Witness. We all had a lot of fun bullying him. We made jest of his bag and made jest of the fact that he was a Jehovah’s Witness.

Despite all these bullying, he never retaliated. We were still kids back then and our knowledge of the Bible was what we were taught in our different churches. We argued over some verses in the bible and the guy took pains to explain some topics based on what he had been taught. We all shut him down, of course.

Years later, I had the opportunity to visit one of their Kingdom Halls. I had read a lot of their FREE publications and I wanted to see what they did there. I was wowed. I have been to many other churches but this Kingdom Hall was different.

The surprising part was that after the service, I met this guy again and he was so happy to see me. I was surprised. I thought he would make jest of me and ask why I was there. Instead, he and the other people there showed me love.

How are the Jehovah’s Witnesses better Christians than the rest of us?

1. THEY FACE MORE PERSECUTIONS

The Bible says “Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven”- Matthew 5:10

John 15:18- “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.”

2 Timothy 3:12 – “Blessed are you when people hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man.”

You will agree with me that Christians in Nigeria also get persecuted but the persecutions occur mostly in the Northern part of Nigeria. Jehovah’s Witnesses, however, are many all over the world and they are persecuted more than all other Christians of different denominations. The recent one occurred in Russia.

The Southwestern part of Nigeria, which is full of the Yorubas is considered to be full of people who are tolerant and accept you into their society no matter your status or religion. However, Jehovah’s Witnesses still get persecuted there most of the time.

I watched an American movie about the Second World War and at the end of the movie, some statistics were listed based on the number of people who were killed by Hitler’s Soldiers. Apart from the Jews, the homosexuals, and blacks, I was surprised to see Jehovah’s Witnesses listed among them too.

2. DONATIONS ARE VOLUNTARY

Unlike in other Christian churches where people are forced or even threatened to make donations, donations in Kingdom Halls of the Jehovah’s Witnesses are quite voluntary. When you walk into one of their Halls, you will see a box right at the entrance calling you to make voluntary donations.

In other churches, publications are not free. Pastors and General Overseers write a lot of books. Some churches even produce a lot of books for the benefit of their congregations but these books are not free. This is different with Jehovah’s Witnesses.

In each Kingdom Hall, at least the ones I have been to, there is a special place where lots of books and publications are arranged. You can pick any book depending on the language you want for free.

You might have seen them giving out books on the streets and they would never ask you to buy them. They would instead ask you to make voluntary donations. Even if you don’t have money, you can go ahead and pick. They are more interested in making sure you gain the knowledge of God’s word.

3. MEMBERS AND SOCIAL MEDIA

Do you know a Jehovah’s Witness who doesn’t ‘preach’ on social media? When Jesus was leaving the earth, he asked his disciples to go all over the world and preach the gospel.

Thankfully, we are in the jet age where you can share information that can reach people all over the world. Unfortunately, today’s Christians rarely make use of this opportunity to preach the gospel.

There are lots of Christians who have huge followers on different social media platforms but unless they are pastors, you would rarely see them post anything related to the gospel on their accounts. Instead of sermons you will see them posting their beautiful pictures.

Jehovah’s Witnesses’ members post different topics on Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, Pinterest, and so on. Whatever they learn in their Kingdom Halls or conventions, they make sure they share them online.

Other Christians prefer to share nonsensical topics and topics that won’t touch your life positively in anyway. They are supposed to share the sermons they learn from their different churches every Sunday but they would rather share posts concerning Big Brother Nigeria or other nonsense.

4. EVANGELISM

This is one of the things they are known for. Apart from the social media, radio and other modes of evangelism, the Jehovah’s Witnesses preach the gospel by walking from house to house.

Despite the fact that a lot of people reject them, they still keep on. Everything in their minds is looking for one or two people whose lives they can touch positively. You see them walking in the sun, with their umbrellas and bags, with no shame. They prefer to follow God’s instructions and they do this at least twice in a week, walking long distances.

5. TESTIMONIES

Their testimonies are different from those of other Christians. While other Christians give testimonies about what God has done in their lives, most of the testimonies usually involve material things of the world. This is good but there is always something missing.

Other Christians testify about the new cars they just purchased, the new child they just had, the new house they just built and so on. The testimonies of Jehovah’s Witnesses involve turning over a new leaf, giving their lives to Jesus and becoming a model example.

They have different stories on testimonies like these. When you read about people changing and turning over a new leaf, you will be encouraged and you will want to have the same experience. In one of their publications, I read about a Japanese Kamikaze soldier who fought in World War Two and then became a Jehovah’s Witness and began to preach the gospel. I was wowed.

6. THEY ARE ORDERLY AND CALM

Have you ever walked into a Kingdom Hall? As you approach the place, you would believe they are not holding any program because you won’t hear anything. It is only when you enter into the Hall that you will realize that there is a program going on after all.

Other churches love the use of loud speakers. You could be far away and you would hear the different speakers from different churches booming and screaming. Jehovah’s Witnesses’ Kingdom Halls do not pollute the air with noises.

During their programs, they never compete for Bible reading. We all know this. In Pentecostal churches, when the pastor calls a Bible verse, you see fifty people trying to read the same verse at the same time. You would think the fastest reader would be paid for it.

The ‘winner’ is usually the fastest reader. This usually causes fracas among the readers after church services and you may sometimes see two ‘readers’ keeping malice against each other.

The reverse is the case in Kingdom Halls. When a Bible verse is called or when a question is asked, people would raise their hands in order to respond. Everything is calm and quiet. You feel peace in your heart. You forget your problems.

7. SHOW OF LOVE

Many churches in Nigeria love to welcome newcomers. Some churches serve them foods and drinks and collect their phone numbers. The choir members sing a song of welcome and then some top leaders of different groups walk over to the newcomers to shake their hands and welcome. That’s all.

At the end of the program, everyone leaves and forget the newcomer. This occurs in most churches. When a newcomer’s phone number is gotten, all the church want to do is to make sure the newcomer becomes a member and comes always.

In Kingdom Halls, this is different. After the service, almost everyone walks over to you to shake your hand and welcome you with beautiful smiles. Then they politely ask if you would want free Bible study.

There are so many other ways by which the Jehovah’s Witnesses are better Christians than the rest of us and we need to emulate these qualities. There is a very big difference if we are being sincere with ourselves.

Showing love to one another is the key to peaceful nation. Despite the number of churches in Nigeria, in different states and in different streets, corruption is still rampant. Ethnic bigotry and tribalism is till rampant. Something is wrong somewhere and it is all in our hands to change things.

Emulating the qualities of the Jehovah’s Witnesses is the key.

The JWs are not allowed to think for themselves or question the rules because outside thoughts are said to be from the devil.
JWs have to disown family or friends whoever leave the faith and cut them off completely.
They have also had a lot of failed prophecies.
JWs members are banned from reading religious texts from other beliefs but will gladly teach people of other faiths about theirs.
The watchtower group claims politics is evil but they are aligned with the UN.

My brother is a JW and we're still very close. So what are you talking about? Stop spreading falsehood

And yet, jws don't have peace among themselves. Elders fight themselves, bethel members segregate, tribalism and even steal from others. Bethel rooms had to be locked when room occupants go out etc.

No! If the whole are Jehovah's Witnesses, we would be back to the stone age where people are murdered for not filling report slip.

no hate is not only when you dislike someone as to kill or restrict their freedom its also when you do what others are doing but victimized about it.
when you enter a vehicle a preacher is there, your street in the morning they sometimes wake you up early morning, they go around preaching and distributing gospel tracts all these I mentioned other churches including mine does that but the witnesses carry their bags come to you and preach yet they are called all sort of names like you said here that they are extremists can you please explain that dear
You know you are right, like every other person i also think they deserve the side eye. From what i've seen and heard from them they deny a very fundamental teaching of Christianity; which is Jesus Christ being God in the flesh. It is a common knowledge in the bible that anybody who denies this is not a genuine Christian even if they have the appearance of an angel.

They also think they Holy Spirit is a force and not the Spirit of God. Red flag as far the bible is concerned.

God's name is Jehova, true but God has revealed the name he wants us to call him in these last days. It is by that name that every knee in heaven, on earth and beneath the grounds must bow. It is by that name that we must request anything, i mean anything from God. If there is anything that we wish to bind or cast away or agree upon, we must invoke that name else nothing will happen. The name is Jesus Christ. Demons fear this name, angels bow at the mention of this name, God answers our prayers when we mention this name.

Jehova witnesses have removed the name and also the deity of God. A very evil thing to do, their prayers and piousness are in vain. Zeal without knowledge.

Young man, fear God. do no spread fallacies, what jw teaches is the practical wisdom from God not Rusell, we use scriptures to support whatever we say, we don't please man to displease God. we are not a profit making organization, that is why we have lasted for more than a century, no shaking, we keep searching for honest hearted ones and by his Grace, we are in over 240 lands/countries, we have journals in over 900 languages. we have no political representatives in our midst, and concerning prayer, we are not hypocrites, read Mathew 6, from verse 4 to 8. we don't lay hands on people, Jesus made it so easy, work and pray, go to your room, don't seek for magicians pretending to be healers. Fear God, don't spread lies

Well there is absolutely nothing with laying on of hands

James 5 vs 14

Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.

Acts 28 vs 8
And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him.

Mark 16 vs 17- 18
And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

You see why I said you people just swallow up everything taught at the kingdom hall without checking for yourselves.

For your info my friend, I was once an unbaptized publisher. I have nothing against witnesses in fact I have friends who are still witnesses but the truth must prevail always.

By the way, the religion of piss which has the highest terrorist countries in the world also has a large following. Don't use crowd to judge truth. Jesus had only 12 disciples.

Jehovah witnesses don't associate themselves with other Christians. They believe their way of worship is the best way to worship. They don't believe in dancing in their assembly but can dance to secular music. They don't praise or worship but only sing hymn( not dat hymn is bad but David praised God to the extent his clothes almost came off and he is known as one after God's heart). A conc witness will never step his foot inside a church but will expect you to come to their programs. For me, they live double lives. Dressing in a particular way, being calm doesn't guarantee u a true Christian but the way you love your neighbor. A witness will attend to a witness first before anybody. But Jesus said love your neighbor as urself. If you study them well, you won't come up with this write up cos you see them from afar. I have dined and lived with them for a long time and I must say Christianity is of the heart not by appearance.

their biggest problem is hypocrisy. outwardly jws behave like saints, but in secret, they do the opposite of what they preach.
they also have a knack for berating other religions. they believe they are the only ones who will be saved, and refer to other religions as Babylon the great- the world empire of false religion.
This is exactly the problem I have with them. I have a lot of them as friends.

Dress corporeally, use tie don't wear jewelry is what makes you spiritual' some people claim
Some people claim to problem in wearing jewelry and just the way you are claimed some people.
Some decides to only wear robes and sit with their legs folded and relax to reach to the universe believed some fellas.
Oh Lord! I'm beginning to think religion is fashion

I pity anyone who enters the bondage Of The Watchtower. They do some things that meets the eye better than all these business centers called churches.
Their good serves as a veneer to cover the many deep rooted false teachings and cultic ways.

Just know that once you are baptised, that's it. You can never leave without being shunned. Whether by disfellowshipping or disassociation.

I have no sympathy for Any one who enters their trap in this internet age.

The religion divides families and alienate family members.

If you want to understand all that is being said. Go to www.jwfacts.com to see their doctrines.

Go see their false predictions.

Goto YouTube search for Australian royal commission case 29. To see how they hid 1006 child sexual abuse cases from the police in their religion. Something they have condemned the catholic church for.
Of course many members do not know of this. Infact they do not check any thing that speaks against the watchtower.

Infact those on Nairaland Defending watchtower are doing exactly what the organization cautions against.

The members are victims in this. They just don't know it yet. Thank God for the internet, many are doing research about the history and teachings Of The organization.

Infact I dare say that some Of The Jws in this thread have major doubts about some doctrine, policy or procedure but suppress it for fear of being labeled apostates.

Religion is all a business enterprise. But JW is no ordinary religion, they are a super organized cult. Very structured, very controlled. Compare JW to Mormon, Scientology, christdaphine, e. t. c and then we'll have a conversation.

Again visit www.jwfacts.com

You owe it to yourself to hear reviews from those who have lived and breathed the Jw organization. Current JW's, do well to do the research too. Afterall the truth fears no scrutiny.

Cheers

Psoul:

Well, my dear, I truly knw that your question was not really to build ur spiritual faith. You were asking just to twist the Bible a little.
Now let me clear you here.
God never created Adam and Eve to turn around to punish them. It is just like saying that God created Judas to betray Jesus and still God turned around to punish him.

The fact is that There is Satan in this world. So long as there is the existence of Satan here, bad things are bound to happen. Now, do God destine any man in particular to accomplish the bad thing? No...He will never do that. God created everyone with living conscience. He gives every man total freedom to chose between bn good or bn bad.

So God created Adam and Eve to enjoy and live happily in the Garden, they made their choice and god God offended. Just like in the case of Judas. The duty of betraying Christ was not handed over to Judas. It was available for anyone that will allow himself to be used by Satan. God knows that if He sends His son, Satan will like to kill him so that the mission will not yield fruit not knowing that killing Him will make it yield fruit faster. So Judas availed himself for that job. It could have bn anyone else.

Let me give u a practical example. Let's assume u are a student. You have a good looking smartphone. U know that if you leave ur phone unattended to in an open class, it will be stolen by someone. You want to know some of those students stealing ppl's stuff. Probably, u want to shame them to deter others.
Now, u drop ur phone in that empty class. God to somewhere and hide. U will be watching ppl coming and leaving the class. Some will come, see the phone and go their way. Someone who will allow himself to be used by Satan will take the phone, switch it off and convert it to his. If u catch this person and punish him/her, will I be right to say that you destined that person to steal ur phone?
You did not, but among many, he/she allowed him/herself to be used by Satan.

Your answer, as well as your analogy, is faulty. It limits God's omniscience. An all-knowing God knows who will steal the phone!

Their prophecies did fail but they don't tell you it was God's voice. They put things together from informations from the Bible and history.

It is a human effort so it can't be perfect and besides, your church's prophecies do fail everyday too.

Did your pastor not tell you that this year is your year?

How far?

How many prophet and pastors prophecized that Goodluck and Atiku will win?

How far?

We hate Jehovah witness simply because they're better than us.

Hardly do you see them in crime story.

I have never seen them COZA any member.

Hardly do you see them with teenage pregnancy.

Their is no lukewarm member among them like the rest of other churches. You're either in or out.

They're one and Bible said be one.

No other church supports members financially without extorting first like the Jehovah witness.

Truly, Jehovah witnesses have a lot of good and positive things to them which other Christians should emulate. Nevertheless, their evil sides are worse! They are extremist!

If your own Mother who brought you into this world or your twin with whom you shared a placenta and DNA type is a Jehovah Witness and you are not, expect them to prefer a complete stranger or foreigner who is a JW than you. Is this not madness?
When your wedding day comes, your own mother who is a JW will not attend that wedding as long as you are not a JW.
They never attend other people's churches or collect other people's materials but expect you to attend theirs and collect theirs, what kind of hypocrisy is that?

If you were once a JW and you backslide, not to even talk of leaving the fold. You are ostracized from your family, friends and everybody and treated like an outcast. For God's sake, what is the difference between this and a cult? Had it been JW believe in bloodshed, they would have been worse than Islamic extremism.

The worse of their practices is rejection of blood transfusion. I have seen JW people I knew (especially women) die at childbirth or an accident when they loose a lot of blood and the only solution to help them live is blood transfusion and they reject it and die instead.

I swear if my daughter or sister marries a JW, I will mourn her and forget her from that very day. I wouldn't even wait for that to happen.

Abeg, I thank God for we Pentecostals. We are very free with each other, we attend each other's churches, we intermarry each other. We don't discriminate or judge others (except for the Deeper life people). We live freely. JW are not free. It's like they are living in bondage.

I am from a christian family but I can confirm to you that i have not chosen any religion my self...I am still practising Christianity because I met it at home...but when it is time to choose religion, I will definitely choose Islam over Nigeria version of Christianity...To me, Islam is more real than Nigeria version of Christianity
You appear to have a fundamental issue.

The day you realize that you need to know and love God for yourself, then basing your devotion to Christianity on what mere men are doing will change for good.

Try and have a personal relationship with Jesus by becoming born again and the madness going on in the name of Christianity around you will not deter you.

Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. No-one can come to the Father except through Him...(John 14:6, as paraphrased).

The foregoing is true and verifiable. Let no man deceive you...

Jehovah created the Earth, he is the owner of the Earth, not any Human. use emoticons to cover your ignorance
you didn't answer my questions tho. Anyway all religions practice one form of brainwashing or the other but you jws are worse with your outward holiness and occultic inwardness. Na who nor sabi una was una go fit deceive.

Anyways keep wishing and hoping for people who did nothing but mind their business to be destroyed your your jehovah for you to inherit houses you did not build grin, your jehovah must be very wicked i must say to reward lazy no dogooders who sit their asses down waiting to take over what they did no work for undecided. No jw will ever join any significant research in this world ,any significant project its a no for them, any significant peace keeping, its a no for them, but when all is said and done you want to inherit the earth built by other people. Yeye people, first class pretenders.

The only way you can win a JW in religious argument is to be very sound in Bible knowledge.

45. Again, the kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls
46. who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it. ” (Matthew 13:45-46).

I didn't know we (JW) are numerous like this in Nairaland ooo.

Today's Watchtower study titled "Those who listen to you" will be saved captures the essence of the main thread.

Today we sang song 145: God's Promise of Paradise and it was so soothing.

I am JW proudly.
