Please are you sure you are not talking about coal because when I went to Kenya I did not find any charcoal all I found was coal from the Earth been sold. What some of the people do they grind the coal down and mix it with sawdust to make like wood pellets which you can now use as a alternative to firewood. Coal from the ground is much much cheaper you can find them selling bulk coal especially around the areas where they do coffee beans because they use cold to roast the coffee beans. Also you can find coal in the areas where they do tobacco bands for roasting the tobacco leaves

Not technology but more like how things look like buildings that are made for specific purposes have a certain design to tell you that or pattern or some words in a native language and everyone is wearing traditional clothes and the buildings have architectural designs from Africa
