Tinubu has not achieved more than Obasanjo, Awolowo – Fani-Kayode counters ex-minister, Ogunlewe

Femi Fani-Kayode, former Minister of Aviation, has reacted to a statement by former Minister of Works, Adeseye Ogunlewe, that Bola Tinubu, National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has achieved more than the late Obafemi Awolowo and MKO Abiola, acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election.

DAILY POST had that Ogunlewe anchored his claim on the number of persons Tinubu has been able to promote from nothing to be governors, ministers and even vice president.

He maintained that the former Lagos State governor would make a better President if given the opportunity.

But, Fani-Kayode while reacting, said Obasanjo, Awolowo amongst other Yoruba elders played significant roles in Nigeria not just Tinubu.

According to him, Tinubu has not achieved more than Awolowo or any other Yoruba leader.

Fani- Kayode on his Twitter page wrote: Tinubu has achieved more than Awolowo, MKO Abiola”Sen. Adeseye Ogunlewe.

Why do we Yorubas always have this infantile craving to compare our leaders and say one is greater than the other?

Tinubu, Abiola, Obasanjo, SL Akintola, Samuel Ajayi Crowther, Herbert Macaulay and many others all made their mark and all played notable and historic roles. Some are still playing it.

We should be grateful to God for them all and stop trying to compare them or say one has achieved more than the other.

On mentorship of young leaders both late Chief Awolowo and Asiwaju Tinubu are trailblazers but based on different styles.

For you to stick around Awolowo, you need to have a significant level of intellectual content, share ideological affinity with him and demonstrate absolute loyalty. For Tinubu, the emphasis is less on intellectual content and ideology but more on how strategic you are to his political goals, absolute loyalty and your connection with the grassroots. Awolowo had DISCIPLES but Tinubu has BENEFICIARIES.

However, Tinubu is a more accomplished politician who has national influence and fanbase as well as ability to pull strategic political deals.

Late MKO Abiola was more of baba olowo than your regular politician. He nurtured or rather helped many beneficiaries financially across tribes, religions and class but never demanded political loyalty of any sort. When he ran for president in 1993, most Nigerians voted for him for his unconditional generousity.

When it comes to Obasanjo, he has neither apostles nor beneficiaries. It is always about himself.

By the way, I am a strong admirer of Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu the only true jagaban. So my analyses are based on my understanding of him being a keen observer and of course admirer.
