Wonderful, Ghanaian doctor perform heart suggery without opening the patient heart at Ghana second largest hospital located in kumasi .......

Ghanaian doctors at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) have for the first time performed a successful heart surgery without opening the heart.

The new procedure which according to the doctors takes between 30 to 35 minutes, is one of the safest procedures to adopt.

This according to the hospital management is the first time such a procedure has been used successfully by local doctors in Ghana.

Speaking on behalf of the hospital management after the successful operation, Head of Nursing at KATH, Georgina Afua Sam noted that the feat achieved has been made possible as a result of a collaboration between the hospital and a Chinese Hospital, Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital.

According to her, doctors from the Chinese hospital usually visit KATH to help perform surgeries using this method but this time around, a team from Ghana alone performed the surgery using the method.

“In April this year, we signed an MOU with them in China for continued collaboration, capacity building and providing of facilities. For this fifth time, normally when they come, (all the missions) they do open heart surgery and pacemaker. For this time, they didn’t do any open-heart surgery, they did the valve and the replacement in which the heart was not opened. This is the first time in Ghana and this time too it was done at the Komfo Anokye Teaching hospital. We are so happy that our cardiologists had the opportunity to do the first pacemaker surgery which had a lot of benefits for the patient”.

After the successful operation, the hospital management is confident that they are in a better position to handle such issues in subsequent times.

Georgina Afua Sam then called on the general public with heart conditions to visit the facility to ensure that they are adequately treated.

“What we are saying is that we’ve started. We want the community, the entire nation as a whole to know that Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital has started and patients can come. They are warmly welcomed,” she added.

Speaking to Citi News, the team leader from the Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital, Prof. Lin Chunying said in order for Ghanaian doctors to be able to apply the new cardio technique, her outfit through the support from the Chinese government sent some Ghanaian cardiologists to be trained in China.

“From 2014, we have been training doctors in Ghana. The first Doctor is Dr. Francis from the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and subsequently, we trained other doctors from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. All of them were under training for one year. They studied PCI, Intervention Operation including Pacemaker. After their training, they came back to Ghana and they tried to do operations themselves. So from 2014, I carried my team to Ghana to help them build their capacities and now they can do pacemaker themselves”.

She is hopeful that after the successful surgery performed by the Ghanaian team, the Komfo Anokye Teaching hospital will be able to perform subsequent surgeries using the new procedure (Pacemaker) in order to save more lives.

“I think in the future, the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, since they have a Pacemaker team, maybe every week, they can finish Pacemaker themselves to save more lives”.

Some doctors however disclosed to Citi News that some equipment needed is not readily available and as a result, in order to facilitate their work, such equipment should be provided.

They are appealing to government and other philanthropic individuals and organizations to support them in that regard.

More tea farms in Kenya. Kenya as country has everything - from desert sand dunes - to very cold highlands suitable for tea farming.

For the lekki deep seaport the people that are doing it only tweet milestone accomplishment so I only have 1 or 2 images from when the construction started in March 2018 and when the breakwater was completed in September 2018 over than that construction work has been ongoing but silent for most members to the public.

Turns out that the project hasn't actually started yet because those images were for something called the dangote jetty a port dangote built for his refinery and the actual lekki deep seaport is only finalizing funding this week. China Harbour engineering group is spending 470 million dollars in equity for a 52% stake in the project China development bank is funding it with 630 million dollars, the tolaram group has a 25% stake whilst Nigerian portd authority has 5% and Lagos state government has 20%

There is no minimum LDR requirement but most kenyan banks exceed 60%. Majority do around 80%..

The problem is interest rates - I don't know how Nigeria survive with 20-25% interest rates - with CBR of 13%. Kenya has CBR of 8-9% and Interest Rate of 13% (with rate capping of course).

https://cytonn.com/uploads/downloads/q32018-banking-sector-report.pdf
Nigeria's interest rate is not 20%-25%, our MPR is 12% but LDR interest rate is 3.5%, our LDR policy is targeted at MSMEs.

Most Nigerian banks also exceed 60%, some do above 80%... 60% is just d minimum requirement for all banks.

I can't find anything regarding ur LDR, not sure u have a policy on that but u can post a link if u have.

I don't think kenya has min LDR requirement. There is min liquidity requirement of 20%...so banks have to keep at least 20% of their assets as cash.

Now looking at your lending rates - your banks are gorging you. Deposit rate is 4% - while interest can go as high as 30% for some sectors - on average about 18-20%. That kind of spread is nearly criminal...but then you have inflation at double digit.

For example - Zenith bank charges min of 19% - and max of 30% lending rate.

https://www.cbn.gov.ng/Out/2018/BSD/Weekly%20Deposit%20and%20Lending%20Rates%20in%20banking%20Industry%20as%20at%20June%2029,%202018.pdf

Nigeria’s (MPR) benchmark rate is 14%, compared to 2.25% in the United States, 6.75% in South Africa, 9% in Kenya and 17% in Ghana.

Can't you understand that refined Swahili which was spoken? But let me xplain what the clip says..

In 2015,the government carried out demolition exercise in Dar, most unplanned settlements were demolished, the folks went to court, the court halted demolition by a court order. The court said it wasn't properly done. The affected families are having nowhere to go since the government didn't provide alternative. The government says it still wait for more court decisions and clarification, they say, they can't interfere the judiciary.

The affected families are pleading to a president for help.

So,that isn't a normal slum life like kibera. Those are people who wait for gov to give them plots for resettlement.

It's almost as complete as the Eko sand dunes.

Eko Atlantic is actually nearing completion over 200 international companies have started coming to Eko Atlantic to plan their buildings they have added over 50 renderings and plots of land have already been bought up by 2024-2026 Eko Atlantic will be complete

In other news Bakassi deep seaport has been approved and it will cost 2 billion dollars again China Harbour are planning on building it will have 9 berths and will hold 2 million TEUs when completed the government is trying to spread out the ports so that no one port is having too much activity because that is what causes congestion

China Harbour is also going to be building the new warri port they are planning the designs and how much land etc for the warri port it will likely cost 1.8 billion dollars.

Nigeria is also set to start the AKK gas pipeline project at the start of next year this project is ajaokuta-kaduna-kano gas project in the project there will be a 1350MW plant at each stop and a 800MW plant in Abuja on the way this project will solve power problems for the states of kaduna, kano, Abuja and kogi state

In Lagos in association with the dangote petrochemical plant they are going to develop 3000MW of power through gas pipelines in Lagos this is working with Siemens to provide these solutions

By 2023 Siemens plan on providing Nigeria with 25 000MW, whilst TCN a public Nigerian association is planning on providing 20 000MW of power by 2022 added to this the world Bank gave Nigeria 3 billion dollars for their power projects Nigeriabs do not worry your electricity woes will be over soon.

No it is not that close from what I know they are only finalizing funding now that is why work has not been going very fast before they working off a small loan from the Nigerian government so they were only able to start the breakwater but now work will speed up because they have gotten the funding.

MPR is the interest rate at which central bank lend to commercial banks and not to the average man on the street while LDR is meant for the average man on the street. LDR loan is gotten from deposit in banks and not from central bank.

MPR is dependent on status of economy and used to check inflation. If an economy is vibrant and has low inflation rate, its MPR will be lower than a country that has a turbulent economy, which is d mother of inflation.

But LDR is deliberately meant for small biz owner to borrow at low interest rate.

All this emotional outburst to hide the fact that your banks are gorging you.
Your MPR last few yrs has been 12-14% - nearly twice Kenya (8-9%).
Your deposit rate is 4% - in Kenya it about 6-7% - meaning depositing money in Nigerian bank is as good as burning it.
You lending rate to final consumers is shockingly anything from 15-30%!
Kenya lending rate is 13% (that about your base lending rate).

Kenya as far as I know doesn't have minimum LDR requirement. We have a liquidity requirement - cash ratio - where Banks have to keep at least 20% of their assets as cash.

Suffice to say the average LDR in kenya is btw 75-80%

Not true. Konza has been allocated funding every year - the office complex for Konza secretariat is complete - the horitzontal infrastructure for Phase 1 is ongoing (awarded to some Italian company). The Korean Institute of Science & Technology deal has been signed and just awaiting financing agreement.
