hillsiderfak: Yes. He is right. Russia has started exporting these choppers. They were not doing that some years back. They really want to make money from this war on terrorism . Kamov helicopters and US Super Tucano can wipe out Boko in two weeks. It's all in the sensors, speed and stand off weapons. Super Tucanoes coming from The US have some super accurate but cheap rockets and bombs. Buhari should lease-to-buy Kamovs with Russian pilots while we pay small small In return we give them a gas field and Ajaokuta re commissioning contract. 3 Likes |

Buying all the jet in the whole world can not stop insecurity in Nigeria until we buy their ideology, technologically and economic plan work... |

LiftedMan:F-35 can't be sold to just any nation. Now that Nigeria is in partnership with Russia, F-35 is completely out of our reach. Remember what happened to Turkey when they acquired S-400 from Russia? They were exempted from the long f-35 technology by the USA. 1 Like 1 Share |

FemiMaduka:brilliant observation. The same NAF are still using L39ZA trainer jet for counter insurgency operations. As I type the student pilots in kano flying training skool are shot of trainer jets 1 Like |

hillsiderfak: Please guys should stop mentioning SU 25s. The planes are not as good Super Tucanoes. This is not my opinion. Its the opinions of those who have compared them criteria by criteria. Besides where are you going to get SU 25s. They are too old. Russia itself does not have it as part of the strategy for dealing with massed armor attacks any longer. If you need to take out AAA guns from Boko, long range missiles and super accurate rockets from 3km away is what you require. Super Tucanoes, Russian Yak 130s and and to some extent NAFs upgraded Alpha Jets/L 39ZA are good enough. Forget this idiocy about armoured cockpits. Whats armoured cockpit? ISIS damaged 50% of Iraqi Airfirce's MI 35Ms by AAA fire and rendered them out of action. MI 35Ms have armoured cockpits. There is no such thing as a "flying tank". It just depends on where the bullet hits ISIS could not bring down KI 35s or kill the pilots but they rendered the choppers inoperative. The solution is in tactics and using star off weapons not armouring cock pits. Besides SU 25s are old tech and very expensive to upgrade....still they are not cost effective 3 Likes 2 Shares |

Jimi24:. With due respect, I disagree with you. Tucanos and Su-25s are not in the same class. Tucanos are for low-intensity COIN-CT operations, whereas, Su-25s [and the American A-10s] are for anti-armor, frontline operations--in fact Russia did deploy some for behind-the-enemy-line operations in Syria. These are places an Alpha Jet or Tucano would never go. I urge you to go read up why the almighty $1.5Trillion-F-35 program couldn't even dislodge the venerable A-10, as the U.S. congress has approved upgrade and service extension programs for their fleet. It is a niche they [Su-25 and A-10] occupy. No platform is impregnable, not even the F-22s of this world, the issue of armouring is based on increasing survivability [not invincibility]. EVERY platform would fail with the right conditions; armouring only makes those conditions fewer and harder to come by. There are modernized iterations of the Su-25, the SMT version, which is so high-tech that it can carry smart munitions [the stand-off issue you raised] and be deployed for SEAD missions. Bro, it is no mistake that the Su-25 And A-10, both of cold war vintage, have not been replaced and are even billed for major service-extension packages. 1 Like |

No African country can buy F35, because Russia will make sure they get their hands on it so they can remodel their S-500 radars. They can’t even sell us their 4th generation jets like, F/A-18E/F Hornets, F-18 Eagles & EA-18 Growlers. I would have mentioned F-22 Raptors, too, but no other country has it; only the USA. Typhoons, Rafaels, T-50 PAK/FAs (not combat ready), J-20 chengdus are too advanced for Africa. Maybe Egypt can use MIG or old Sukhoi (not Su-35 super flankers) because they are more advanced military wise. Jonah507: |

Aldebarann: You are right, except that Egypt uses very advance 4++generation jets especially the Rafale. The Rafale is France's most advance fighter, and only undisputedly trounced by the F-22 [and may be the Su-57, when it enters full service]. South Africa has very decent, 4th-generation Gripens. Algeria too has 4th-generation Su-30 MKA and upgraded MiG 29s. Egypt, South Africa and Algeria are generally in another league on the African continent. 1 Like |

Re: Insecurity: Nigeria To Buy More Fighter Jets From Russia by Aldebarann(m): 2:00pm On Oct 22, 2019 |
I did not know Egypt operates Rafale but it is no surprise, they have an aircraft carrier. That is huge, being an African country. You are on point with regards to Gripens. They are decent at best & can’t dominate the sky where F-22s, SU-35s & the likes are. At the emboldened, some not so informed people will come for you without making proper research [quote author=FemiMaduka post=83363990] You are right, except that Egypt uses very advance 4++generation jets especially the Rafale. Yes, but Russia still lags behind. They don’t have as much money! Why else do you think they made RS-Sarmat missiles? Left to conventional war, no country will win the USA. Nonetheless, Russia is a force to reckon with obidark: |
