Back to back seasons in the champions league speaks for itself
club form and country form are two different things. I believe we have learnt enough of that from Onuachu

Secondly, back to back seasons in the Champions League means nothing, if no reasonable progress is made between such seasons. What were his stats like in the games? What were his ratings like? How far has his team gone in the Champions League, abi, is it not to sign register and come back? It is not like Russia is a heavily competitive league to begin with, that we can now use it to gauge the challenge for qualification

Queens Park Rangers midfielder Eberechi ‘Ebere’ Eze is being tracked by a host of Premier League clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur.

According to a report by Football London, Tottenham and a number of other Premier League sides are tracking Eze. QPR could face a battle to hang onto their key asset in the January transfer window.

Eze has been in excellent form for the west London side this season, inspiring their promotion push. QPR currently sit fifth and that is largely thanks to Eze’s tally of six goals and two assists in 12 games.

The England U21 international operates in an attacking midfield role and he has shown his dribbling skills on a number of occasions this season. With three goals in his last two games, he is hitting form and attracting attention.

Back in August, Spurs and Southampton were linked with Eze (The Sun). It looks like there will be a multi-club chase for the 21-year-old with just over two months until the transfer window reopens.

TBR’s view

Eze has been lighting up the Championship for QPR over the past two seasons and it is no surprise to see clubs chasing him. In the summer, Spurs signed Jack Clarke from Leeds United and Eze is a similarly exciting youngster.

The former Millwall youngster has overcome rejection in the past to become a star in England’s second tier. He is only going to get better so he might be worth the gamble for a Tottenham side crying out for creativity.

Eze made a very wise decision to follow Ian Holloway to QPR a manager who wants to play on the deck good quality technical football. Now look at them 4th on the Championship and a good possibility of promotion to the EPL.

Shockingly Fred Onyedinma was given the same chance to go to QPR but rejected that move.

He very foolishly in some concept of delusional loyalty stayed with Millwall. Convinced by a quintessential Kick and rush, blood and guts English Manager in Neil Harris.

Things got so bad with Neil Harris he openly told him that he never wants to play for him and Millwall. He then decided to drop down to league one with Wycombe Wanderers. He will have to do a lot to resurrect his career. Admittedly he is currently standing out in league one.

But it goes to show that these decisions are crucial to career progression. Imagine if Eze had stayed at Millwall we would not be talking about him now.

For me Eze should go to Tottenham thier style will suit him and he will get game time. Southampton is in a deep romance with the relegation zone.

The pertinent issue is not club form vs National team form.

But it's more about the style of play and player attributes that complement that style. Some players have attributes that are excellent for a particular style of play and lack the capcity to adapt to a different style.

That's why a player may excel in one league but flop in another.

The Championship is a very competitive and unforgiving league. It is more of a marathon than a sprint.

Many a time front runners loose steam towards the end. So essentially l am saying there is a long way to go. But to thier advantage they have one the best managers.

Ovie Ejaria was the standout performer on what was a quiet weekend for Liverpool loanees, while Taiwo Awoniyi had a full debut to forget in Germany.

The borrowed Reds were struck by a case of international break hangover, with this a quiet weekend in terms of productivity.

Goals and assists were in short supply, but it was still a positive period as the majority of the loanees featured.

And there was still some impressive form produced, most notably with an excellent performance from Ejaria.

Ejaria was in eye-catching form as he enjoyed a winning return to domestic football with Reading in the Championship.

The midfielder inspired his side to a 1-0 win over Preston, in which he was widely acknowledged as the Royals’ best performer in the club’s first match under new manager Mark Bowen.

Ejaria shone as Reading’s chief creator as he completed a huge seven dribbles—via WhoScored—which was more than the rest of the players on both teams combined.

“[Ejaria] ran the show with an absolutely mesmerising performance.

“Time after time he weaved his way through Preston players who could not get a grip on him.

“[He] had chances to score with two good shots in the first half and diverted the ball over the bar from close range in the second.”

The victory was a priceless one for Reading, ending a winless league run dating back to August 24 and lifting the Royals out of the relegation zone.

More importantly it was a great first impression from Ejaria to new boss Bowen, who will no doubt be looking forward to working with the Reds loanee after this showing.

After playing just 87 minutes so far this season, the Nigerian striker finally made his first Bundesliga start for Mainz on Saturday.

Awoniyi was introduced to lead the line alongside Karim Oniwiso in Mainz’s 4-2-2-2 setup, for a big game as two of the Bundesliga’s early strugglers went head-to-head.

The offensive selection for a must-win game provided the perfect occasion for the 22-year-old to make his mark after a frustratingly slow start with Jurgen Klopp’s former club.

It should have, but unfortunately it didn’t.

Mainz were reduced to 10 men on the stroke of half-time and that led to Awoniyi being sacrificed in the tactical reshuffle at the break.

Awoniyi’s case to stay on was not helped by his ineffective display in the first 45 minutes—in which he touched the ball just nine times, according to WhoScored.

Not a full debut to remember and hopefully he is handed a better chance next time out.

Harry Wilson played 70 minutes for Bournemouth but was unable to provide the moment of magic needed to impact a goalless draw against Norwich.

Kamil Grabara conceded twice as Huddersfield drew 2-2 against Blackburn to extend the unbeaten league run to four games, but he was not at fault for either goal.

In Scotland, Sheyi Ojo produced a quiet hour-long outing in Rangers’ 1-1 draw at Hearts, with his subdued display seeing him subbed early for Ryan Kent.

Also in the Scottish Premiership, Liam Millar was surpassingly restricted to a sub appearance at Kilmarnock, but he was lively after entering for the final half-hour of his side’s 2-1 win over Livingston.

Around the globe three more Reds were in action.

Marko Grujic remains an ever-present in Hertha Berlin’s midfield as the Serbian completed his ninth consecutive 90 minutes of the season in the Bundesliga in a 1-1 draw with Werder Bremen.

Loris Karius recorded a second successive clean sheet as Besiktas played out a goalless draw against Ankaragucu, to continue his positive improvement after a patchy period.

Finally, Allan Rodrigues suffered back-to-back losses at Fluminense across the weekend, first going down 2-1 to Athletico Paranaense on Friday before a 2-0 derby defeat to Flamengo on Sunday.

Reading claimed a first win under new boss Mark Bowen by beating Preston North End 1-0 at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Royals sacked Jose Gomes over the international break, and made the bizarre decision to appoint sporting director Bowen as their new boss.

Preston arrived in great form with no defeat in eight games, but a pretty drab display was heading towards a 0-0 draw before Reading struck late on.

Declan Rudd could only parry Jordan Obita's strike, and then couldn't keep out Matt Miazga's follow-up, handing Reading a 97th minute winner.

The result takes Reading up to 20th in the Championship table, and whilst Miazga was their match-winner, all the praise was going towards playmaker Ovie Ejaria.

The 21-year-old is currently on loan at Reading from Liverpool, but as confirmed by Liverpool, the deal will become permanent at the end of the season, meaning he won't be heading back to Anfield.

Ovie Ejaria during the Sky Bet Championship match between Huddersfield Town and Reading at the John Smith's Stadium, Huddersfield on Saturday 24th August 2019.

Some may wonder whether Liverpool may come to regret that decision though, as Ejaria is really shining for Reading, and their fans were raving about him on Saturday.

Supporters were calling Ejaria 'pure class', 'next level' and a 'special talent', with many of them simply in disbelief that Liverpool are letting him leave permanently in 2020.

review of ejaria's perfomance last weekend

One player who was head and shoulders above everyone else on the field was Reading's Ovie Ejaria. The 21-year-old, who is on a season-long loan from Liverpool, was simply outstanding on and off the ball.

The way he took the ball around opponents with superb footwork was a joy to behold and he put in some excellent defensive tackles as well.

He came close to scoring on three occasions - two shots from outside the box in the first half and a diverted shot over the bar when well placed in the second.

Ejaria never stopped running and constantly had the beating of Preston players, who were unable to prise the ball away from him and were afraid of lunging in on him.

To think that Reading will buy him next summer for just £3m - an obligation in the current loan deal - looks like an unbelievable piece of business.

Ejaria 8

Continued his fine form from the weekend with another outstanding display, running the show from midfield. Produced an exquisite pinpoint through ball for Puscas' first-half goal.

Idowu has always been solid for Nigeria. Sure he doesn't bomb forward and provide excitement but he is very good defensively.

Russia is not supposed to be competitive because of cska and zenith saint p but for locomotive to take one of their slots is commendable. They are not poor as we all saw tonight

Former Super Eagles coach Jo Bonfrere has knocked down the long-ball tactics Imama Amapakabo employed in a desperate bid to overturn a heavy loss against Togo and qualify for next year’s CHAN in Cameroon.

The CHAN Eagles won 2-0 in Lagos at the weekend, but failed to overturn a 4-1 loss they had suffered in Togo last month.

This was despite the fact that 10 minutes of additional time were given by the match officials on Saturday.

“The long balls did not help the team because Togo had tall defenders to deal with them,” said Bonfrere, who was at the Agege Stadium to watch the game on Saturday.

They aimed these balls at the No 9 (Nyima Nwagua) but he couldn’t deal with them.

“They should have tried using the wings and crosses to go past the defence.”

CHAN Eagles coach Imama himself admitted “technical blunders” from the first leg with co-ordinator Patrick Pascal also saying the players who played in Lagos would have done a better job than those who were paraded in Lome.

Imama made as many as six changes to the starting XI from the Lome leg of the 2020 CHAN playoffs – Daniel James, Ifeanyi Nweke, Anthony Shimaga, Nyima Nwagua, Ibrahim Olawoyin and Ifeanyi Anaemena.

Last year, Nigeria played in the final of the CHAN in Morocco.

Best players adapt to the situation no matter the club or league.

But not all players have that ability, in addition some players in case of the EPL can not rise to the occasion. The league is just too hard for them.

This is the case I would say with Slimani a big flop in the EPL but being celebrated in the French league now.

There is no double standard.

In your blind prejudice you seem to have lost your capacity to reason. Go back to basics maybe even school because you don't seem to know what prejudice and bias means.

You keep looking for faults when the fault rests with you. NOBODY ELSE.

export talents abroad..... and get some cut from their signings you mean
if that is what you mean they're on course...doing a great job.

they're currently using the under 17 for that... read how the arsenal prodigy was dropped while some suspectd names made the list.... well should they employ an indigenous coach for the super eagles...that day I will give myself a break from a being a fan...

even now that the average rohr is the coach we are still having issues with the team selection...let alone when a Nigerian becomes coach.. with the meagre salary that does not flow always dude may wanna market players for some dollar notes and also make questionable call ups...

we miss out on this guys because we have always act like milipead because no currency notes will be get into our pockets should we proceed wit getting this player's....

some Nigerians will only proceed to do the right thing only when money is involved and they will get something in return... and unfortunately this folks are the majority in government MDAs, Ministeries and even the NFF.....

it is so painful...

export talents abroad..... and get some cut from their signings you mean
if that is what you mean they're on course...doing a great job.

they're currently using the under 17 for that... read how the arsenal prodigy was dropped while some suspectd names made the list.... well should they employ an indigenous coach for the super eagles...that day I will give myself a break from a being a fan...

even now that the average rohr is the coach we are still having issues with the team selection...let alone when a Nigerian becomes coach.. with the meagre salary that does not flow always dude may wanna market players for some dollar notes and also make questionable call ups...

Did you read develop football in Nigeria?

The under 17 is minute to the kind of exports we could have if we focused on correcting the ills in our local football.

By the way, Rohr is not doing anything special that an indigenous coach wouldn't have done. He is just overhyped because he is white.
