I read the back and forth between a Ghanaian and Kenyan dude some threads back and I've done a little bit of due diligence. Turns out Ghana is just a rip off country...simple commodities are inexplicably expensive From bread to as small as a bottle of soda.. I don't seem to understand why 1 Like |

You dismissed a country as a rip off because of prices of goods and services? How many countries have you visited in your life? Are the prices of goods and services the only indicator of prosperity? Norway is considered the richest country in the world. But do you know how insanely expensive Norway is? I am currently in Singapore, and prices are not cheap here. So what are you talking about ? I understand your point. You see cost of living around the world is increasing. Taxes are going up all the time. In Ghana, fuels sells for almost three times the price in nigeria. Vat is about 12.5% or so,while it is 5% in Nigeria. Even port charges in Ghana are higher than most countries in West Africa. So understandably, prices of goods and services are relatively higher in Ghaba. But again it shows the resilience of the Ghanaian economy. Currently, there is a big debate in Nigeria about plans to charge 7.5% VAT. People are crying that increasing vat to 7.5% will impoverish more nigerians just 7.5% vat oooh meanwhile Ghanaians pay at least 12.5% vat and are doing fine. Chai, naija eeeh Acadavah: 1 Like |

Okay let me try again - maybe I will be 3rd time lucky - your MPR/CBR/Inter-bank rate/base lending rate - has been set around 12-14% lately by your CBN - Ghana is 17% - Kenya is 8-9% (set quartely by our Monetary Policy Board by our CBK). Our Kenyan banks since 2016 - are allowed max of 4% plus CBR - so 9+4 =13% to charge customers (lending or interest rate). They are also allowed to min deposit rate of 4% minus CBR - so 5% - most do even as high as 7% fixed deposit rate.Nigeria banks charge on average I think 20-30% interest rate - Zenith your biggest bank min lending rate you can get is 19% - max of 30%. Suffice to say your MACRO-ECONOMICS indicators are as worse as Ghana. Inflation rate is double digit (kenya plays around 4-5%). Interest rate in 20% plus. I am not sure honestly how you guys survive. You have it twice as worse as kenya. For reference...South Africa CBR/MPR is around 6-7% - with interest around 10-12%. US has MPR of 0.5% with interest rate of 2%. Now tell me a Nigerian who takes loan or mortgage for 30% - how do you manage to repay that back? Now that your CBN forces banks to lend? Who do they lend to? - Maybe Nigeria federal and states gov? theenchanter: 3 Likes |

rvp2018: How do you always find a way to make a project sound bad this project is being done by Samsung, Huawei and main one, the company main one set up a 2 100km long cable aling the coast of West Africa and I think it connected to Portugal as well so they are already professionals at it I already showed you pictures if the laying if fibers in Lagos not just yaba, Lagos as a whole will get 3000km of fibers and I showed you the image already so do not say we are a country of pipe dreams that what everyone said about Eko Atlantic are there not cranes and skyscrapers building there as we speak. It seems like Kenyans are the ones who cannot speak seeing that konza actually seems like a pipe dream according to the comment section of the konza progress video this year, this is from Kenyans not me you can search it and read the comment section yourself. 2 Likes |

You're at least 10 or 15yrs late. So this is how you progress in this fiber business. 1)You have undersea international cable. The one from Lagos to Portugal etc. That I think is pretty much done in west coast of Nigeria. But we hear stupid GLO want to invest lots of billions there? 2) You build a backbone fiber network. Even Tanzania has one. You're not yet started here. Backbone fiber is sort of fiber connecting all Nigeria main towns and cities. You have NOT DONE THIS. Kenya has about 5-6K kms of National Fiber Optic Networks covering all 47 counties. Kenya Power (our utility company) has also another 4,000kms of back-bone fiber network that they lease. KETRACO (Kenya transmission line) also boast of 2,000kms of Fiber around the high voltage power lines that they also lease as back-bone fiber network. 3) Then you build FTTB - Fiber to the Buildings. This is is what you're attempt to do in YABA. In place like Kenya - FTTB is done in nearly all major towns. In Nairobi every building has FTTB. In fact nowadays any contractor make provision for FTTB - if not even install them. 4) Then you get into FTTH - Fiber to the Home. This one you'll get there in what 20 or 30yrs!!!. That is connecting every home to fiber. FTTH is pretty much good in major kenya cities. Safaricom alone has 300,000 subscribers connected to FTTH. I am typing this from FTTH. Abohboy: 3 Likes |

Of course you cannot counter that. Your country macro-economics are a lot similar to Zimbwabwe or Venezuela than say Kenya. Admittedly Ghana is doing even more baldy. Control your inflation, bring down your interest rates, float Naira and maybe you can rejoin the progressive nations like kenya with single-digit inflation, single digit MPR, and who knows even soon single -digit lending rates. Or what do you think Zoo-man from Nigeria. theenchanter: 2 Likes |

Mkenya2019: So your telling me wherever I am in Kenya there is an option for Wi-Fi I just need to get the password for this wifi or is it open because I seriously doubt that I will be able to get wifi wherever I am in Kenya if that was the case people would have been shouting about all these years. Not even in England can you get Wi-Fi wherever you are the government doesn't give wifi to people for free they have to buy individual routers if they want wifi but from what I have read if I come to Kenya I can access wifi wherever I am in kisumu, Nairobi, Mombasa even a random village there will be wifi is this true please confirm 1 Like |

The same way you don't believe common sensical stuff like electricity 24-7 is possible. Well it very possible in kenya - for slums and even deep rural to enjoy 24-7 reliable electricity for 350 of 360 days a year. Now talking Fiber....read here. This white man went back to England from Nairobi - and this is what he said https://twitter.com/benliquidkenya/status/1152123276547776512?lang=en I’m finally getting Fibre installed at my house in UK. Over five years since I got Fibre at my home in Nairobi Kenya. Great to see my mother country UK catching up on Africa with advanced technology infrastructure. Abohboy: 3 Likes |

We have had interest rate capping since 2016 by our parliament - Our judiciary recently ruled it unconstitutional for it interfering with independence of Central Bank and Treasury doesn't like it coz private lending growth has tapered off- but basically Commercial interest rates were capped at 4% above CBR or MPR. In kenya that is 9% +4% - so max a bank can charge you now is 13% - not 30% like Nigeria. theenchanter: 2 Likes |

Business NewsWed, 23 Oct 2019 Ghana to export electricity to Mali and Niger — Dr. Bawumia Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia says Ghana is on course to become a major exporter of power in the West Africa sub-region following the commencement of export of electricity to Burkina Faso. Burkina Faso joins Togo, Cote d’Ivoire and Benin as the West African countries that Ghana regularly exports electricity to. But speaking at the 3rd Ecowas Sustainable Energy Forum in Accra, the Vice President Dr. Bawumia stated that government has set its sights on power exports to countries such as Niger and Mali. “Ghana has also expanded the reach of exporting power to the regional block to improve the socio-economic conditions of our neighbours. Apart from power exports to Togo and Benin, we have also started the export of affordable and reliable electricity to Burkina Faso,” the Vice President revealed. According to Dr. Bawumia, Ghana is undertaking grid expansions which would allow further exports to other neighbouring countries in the sub-region including those in Sahelian regions such as Niger and Mali. “We also continue to work to ensure that we have a robust and financially strong power sector in Ghana to support the ECOWAS regional efforts in the long term. To ensure that Ghana remains committed to its renewable energy portfolio standards, we have completed a comprehensive National Renewable Energy Master Plan (REMP) with a comprehensive strategy for implementation. As government, we would ensure that the plan is implemented to the letter,” Dr. Bawumia added. Source: citibusinessnews.com 1 Like |

That is what happens when you live in a backward nation, received backward education and now have to suffer thro endemic poverty as banks charges you 30% interest rate and inflation is at 13% - and now with border closure - expect inflation to go thro the roof - and banks to start charging your 40%. Nigeria is nothing but a ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooo. theenchanter: 1 Like |
