Mozilla Announces Extension Support For The New Firefox For Android by mellconty: 9:34pm On Oct 25, 2019 |
Mozilla has recently announced that its new Firefox browser for Android will support extensions, bringing it in line with its desktop sibling. The new Firefox for Android based on GeckoView is currently in Preview, and Mozilla says it’s already seeing “great feedback” regarding the performance of the application. The next step in the development of the new browser is adding support for add-ons, and Mozilla explains that the development team has started building support for extensions through the WebExtensions API. Firefox Preview should receive the new functionality sometime in 2020, but for now, no specifics are available. On the other hand, Mozilla says this could take a while, and you are recommended not to try to install extensions in Firefox Preview. "Early extension support coming in H1 2020" Some may work, Mozilla acknowledged, but since they’re not officially supported, other issues could be experienced when using the browser. “Bringing GeckoView and Firefox Preview up to par with the APIs that were supported previously in Firefox for Android won’t happen overnight. For the remainder of 2019 and leading into 2020, we are focusing on building support for a selection of content from our Recommended Extensions program that work well on mobile and cover a variety of utilities and features,” Mozilla explains. “While some members of the community have discovered that some extensions inadvertently work in Firefox Preview, we do not recommend attempting to install them until they are officially supported as other issues may arise.” Mozilla says the first implementation of extensions in Firefox Preview on Android should be ready in the first half of the next year, but no ETA is available just yet, though it could see daylight later in 2020. Firefox Preview is available today, but without support for extensions, albeit it’s really worth a try, especially if you’re an avid Firefox user on the desktop. https://news.softpedia.com/news/mozilla-announces-extension-support-for-the-new-firefox-for-android-527983.shtml 5 Likes 1 Share

Are these folks not mind readers? I was just wondering why I can't cast from my mobile Chrome browser to my TV, but can with the desktop Chrome and boom - this news. What next is going to happen? I think of doing adult deeds with my wife and boom - condom advert on my smart watch? |

Trash. The extensions on the desktop version don't work well, let alone that for android. Google Chrome with no extension beats firefox with all the extensions in the world. There's a hidden place on Chrome desktop, just go there and unlock all the hidden settings. Plus Chrome has more and better powerful extensions than Firefox is a piece of shit. Can't even imagine the last time I checked, Firefox can't save a simple webpage as .mhtml. Firefox is so fvcking archaic. I always choose Google products any time any day. Any google product always look simple but eventually turns out to be the most sophisticated. Anything that comes from Google is the 'go to'. Fvck anything else from others. 13 Likes 2 Shares |

ola33t:I used to think like you before. It must be chrome on desktop or nothing at all. Just once I had little problem with my chrome and decided to try Firefox. Since then, I've had no regrets. To me Firefox is the best browser on desktop. The only reason that makes me to open chrome nowadays is to look for saved passwords. Just wish I can export them to Firefox and that will be the end of Chrome for me 1 Like 1 Share |

Premiumwriter: Can you gives reasons why Firefox is better than chrome? Chrome would have easily allowed you to import your firefox passwords assuming your challenge was vice versal. That's just a quick one there showing you Chrome is better. I don't even have to talk too much. Firefox can do too though but with much longer processes. Firefox is crap, it would be a waste of time saying otherwise. 1 Like 1 Share |

ola33t:@bold I put that to test your knowledge of both browsers. You can actually export and import browser in both. And both follows the same process. Firefox as a browser is the best I've encountered on pc. The only advantage chrome has is sync. It comes as default for android, making it easier to sync data and passwords between devices. Firefox can sync too but why would anyone want to have Firefox & chrome installed on the same phone? That's one of the reasons for the popularity of Chrome. Since the switch, I've never made use of Chrome. Firefox is faster. A lot faster self. Returns fewer errors even with poor connection. And not to talk about the user interface. 1 Like |
