I know you're too dense to connect the dots. Economy of 400B (as alleged by your stats body) with capital market of 35B is a joke. Kenya a smaller country with smaller gdp has market cap of 23B.

Now take a look at South Africa- an economy of 340B - JSE has more than 500 listed companies - with 1.1trillion dollars market cap.

Since you understand what market capitalisation is why don't you understand market value?
Why are you guys quick to think people are ignorant because you're quoted?

I knew you would bring this screenshot..
Now the bulk of these 109 companies are from 10 years ago.
Half of the remaining companies were delisted by the Nigerian stock exchange due to sharp and unethical practices.

Please reduce your false hood.
It's getting really irritating.

On what you told me about Nigeria is totally finished how can companies which have packed up 10 years ago be still listed on the stock exchange this will lead to a lot of corruption. Businesses which have been shut down for more than 10 years are still listed on the stock exchange

*2036 billion in 2018, 2019 figures are yet to arrive.

Where do they stand vis a vis all other human development indicators? AFAIK, GDP per capita is always studied in PPP for a reason as India's localised industry makes the cost of living in India much cheaper. Once again, Mauritius & Seychelles are Indian countries themselves.

Pick up their poverty ratios and inequality adjusted-HDI, even half of these handful of countries will shatter in no time.

Picking a handful of countries to boast of won't help you. Coz on average, Africa stands nowhere near India. Behind in terms of development indicators and far behind if we go ahead & cover technological aspects. India's GDP per capita is still growing faster than these countries. Even these countries with higher GDP per capita than India have multiple holes in their indicators along with no industrial base. India will leave behind them too like others.
There are tonnes and tonnes of indicators which you can go through and HONESTLY ask yourself, who has done better?

And now let's put all this nationalistic chest thumping aside and get on topic. As instead of replying to my question, you tried to brush it away by tempting me with ad hominem and telling me what YOU THINK about India.grin

I said no other African country comes anywhere close to South Africa. I hate this country for its anti-Indian political posturing multiple times. I usually try to insult them on other forums, here I've came across stupidity against them what they most certainly shouldn't face.

So, my point remains. CAN ANY AFRICAN COUNTRY STAND UP TO RSA? Can anyone of you?

India is far away in another league all together and if you think there's some sort of "competition" between India & Pak, you don't even have a clue about world around. Don't blabber about India because I won't respond. I don't think I have to preach much about it.

India and Africa are under-performing siblings...except India has nearly twice Africa GDP PPP.

Africa (2017)
Population 1.307 billion
GDP $2.19 trillion (Nominal; 2017) $6.36 trillion (PPP; 2017)
GDP growth 3.7%
GDP per capita $1,720 (2017; 6th)

India is slightly high at 2.57 trillion with population of 1.37B (11 trillion PPP)

1. In terms is quality of life, RSA has a high poverty ratio & inequality, inequality adjusted HDI well behind India.
2. No, I wasn't comparing RSA to India. Some other member was doing what I was trying to refute. RSA indeed is far ahead of most African states what doesn't go in mind of fools.

Nominal GDP doesn't count for development but financial power of government internationally. That's why we use PPP whenever to study living standards of people. Check the Indian & African GDP & per capitas in 1960s, 1990s, 2010s and 10 year later.

You cannot use GDP (PPP) to compare countries. You use it internally for stuff like poverty analysis. That is why WB/IMF use nominal GDP per capita to classify nations level of development. India definitely turn the corner - but it's still very much as poor as Africa. Sub-Sahara Africa obviously is doing very badly.

What I don't understand is why India is so poor yet it has been part of modern civilization for many centuries.

Most of Sub-Sahara Africa were cut off from rest of the world until 100-200yrs ago and in those 100yrs have made incredible strides...from walking bare naked..to having cities.
