Osimhen affirms availability for Nigeria’s AFCON qualifiers

Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen has quashed reports concerning an injury he suffered at the weekend, saying he would be available for Super Eagles’ AFCON qualifiers, AOIFootball.com reports.

The 20-year-old was replaced 58 minutes into his side’s 2-0 win over Bordeaux at the weekend but has now revealed the injury won’t keep him out for too long.

Lille Coach, Cristophe Galtier had initially confirmed that the Nigerian suffered a slight pain and had to be taken off with further tests now revealing the player will be out for just a couple of games.

A close source to the striker however told AOIFootball.com authoritatively that the player is fine and will undergo further tests on Friday to determine the actual extent of the injury.

“Yes, he had a slight pain and had to be taken out but I spoke with him and he confirmed that he will be back soonest and should also be available for Nigeria’s qualifiers next month,” the source disclosed.

The injury will almost certainly see Osimhen miss his side’s crunch clash against Olympique Marseille and their Champions League clash at Valencia but could however be in contention for next month’s league clash at home to Metz.

NFF writes CAF, wants Super Eagles against Benin shifted to November 14 at 5pm

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have announced the match tickets for Saturday’s international friendly between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Warriors of Zimbabwe at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba.

Nigeria Football Federation has written CAF demanding that the AFCON 2021 qualifier between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and the Squirrels of Benin Republic scheduled for November 13 in Uyo be played on Thursday November 14.

The NFF is also requesting that CAF also approve 5pm kickoff instead of the 8 pm earlier fixed for the match, insisting that request for time change was over security concerns.

The federation in the letter to CAF is asking for the game to be played a day later than the original schedule to enable Super Eagles players who are mostly based in Europe enough traveling time after their weekend games.

“Our team will have only one day to train if the match holds on Wednesday November 13 since the players can only arrive Monday and Tuesday morning and will only be able to have one training session before the match day. But if we play the next day, we might have three training sessions,” an executive committee member of the NFF divulged.

“As for reason why we asked for kickoff change, this is necessitated by security concerns. If the match is played by 8 pm, it might stretch late into the night and will require more security attention.”

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has earlier decried the match schedule and kickoff.

The friendly scrimmage between Nigeria U-23s and Niger Tornadoes have come to an end.

It finished 0-0.

Kelechi Nwakali played as captain and will most likely lead the team at the U-23 Afcon as Azubuike Okechukwu was not released by his club.

Okonkwo Orji and Tom Dele Bashiru also started the match despite only arriving on Monday.

Blessing Olabiran is still being expected as at last check. Should be in camp today.

IFK Gothenburg midfielder Alhassan Yusuf is staying calm about the transfer interest swirling around him.

The Nigerian youngster is a target for Ajax, Anderlecht, Watford, but in particular Wolves.

"I've had a fantastic season. That I would gain such confidence and play so much already this year is much more than I dared to hope," the 19-year-old told GT.

However, Yusuf is set to stay with IFK for the next season.

"In January, I'm back in Gothenburg," he added.

read that post very well...you'll see that it has been scheduled to hold in UYO.
read somewhere that it won't be possible to stage it in Benin anymore...being that it hasn't gotten CAF approval and the time is too short to do that...so the NFF will have to settle for either ASABA or UYO...

I so much feel pity for that ASABA stadium and the miserable government of delta state...with the oil money and huge allocations they get every time...still can't build a good stadia, the worst is, you'll see the annoying governor sitting right in the tomato pitch he called a football pitch to watch the super eagles play hoping they play well in same miserable pitch with his Congo glass.... what a pity that Good and accountable governance right from the state to the grassroots level has eluded DELTA STATE...INCLUDING BAYELSA.

German champions Bayern Munich are scouting Lille striker Victor Osimhem, according to reports in France, Completesports.com reports

Osimhen, who joined Lille from Sporting Chaleroi this summer , has hit the ground running in France.
Since joining the French outfit this year, the 20-year-old has scored eight goals and assisted for two in all competitions, making him the second-highest goalscorer in Ligue 1.

Germany will be familiar territory for the Nigeria international who was once in the books of Bundesliga club, VFL Wolfsburg.

Osimhem linked up with Wolfsburg in 2017, making a total of twelve Bundesliga appearances for the Wolves.

He enjoyed a successful loan spell at Sporting Chaleroi last season, scoring 20 goals and making four assists.

An impressive season saw the Nigerian join Chaleroi on a permanent basis after the Belgian club activated its €3.5m option to buy, then sold him to Lille a month later for €12m.

Bayern Munich appear to be on the search for their next striker as they prepare for life without Robert Lewandowski and a backup in the meantime.

Sunday Dare Walks Out On Pinnick, Dikko

The minister of Youths and Sports Development, Sunday Dare on Monday walked out on top officials of the Nigeria Football Federation officials for coming late to a crucial meeting.

The meeting which was scheduled to hold by 4pm at his MKO Abiola National Stadium office failed to take place.

The president of NFF, Amaju Pinnick in company of his second vice president of the federation, Shehu Dikko, and the chairperson Nigeria Women’s League, Aisha Falode came 4:20pm for a meeting scheduled for 4:00pm at the minister’s office at the MKO Abiola stadium in Abuja.

Our correspondent who witnessed the drama that ensured reported that Dare who was on his way out for another meeting was stopped by Pinnick who made frantic efforts to explain why he came late, but an obviously angry minister refused to return to his office for the meeting.

Shortly after the minister and his entourage left the scene, a shell-shocked Pinnick was said to have retorted ‘we are just 10 minutes late, how can the minister leave us like that’? According to a reliable source, Dare had been tolerating the ‘overbearing nature’ of the NFF president who appeared to be trying to undermine his authority as the sports minister.

However, the minister later met with the NFF officials and resolved to update FIFA on the progress Nigeria has made in the bid to host the 2020 Under-20 Women’s World Cup.

Rohr Waiting On QPR Eze To Decide On His International Future Before Releasing List For AFCON Qualifiers

QPR midfielder Ebere Eze is yet to provide an answer on if he want to commit his international future to Nigeria as requested by coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

Eze had talks with Rohr last week with sources close to both of ‎them confirming that they reached a positive conclusion but Eze is yet to say yes officially. Rohr is however willing to wait for him.

However the coach will name his squad this week and Eze has been given from now till Thursday to make up his mind or miss out on the squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers against Benin Republic and Lesotho respectively.

Rohr would have released the list since last week but he is keen to have Eze in the team for the games, hence his decision to delay it until he gets a confirmation from the 21 year old QPR midfielder who is regarded as one of the finest midfielders in the English Championship.

Last night he confirmed his rating with another assist despite his team losing 1-3 at home to Brentford in a Championship game played last night at their home ground.

Kelechi Nwakali’s Move To Huesca In Danger Of Falling Through – Spanish Journalist Reveals

Former Arsenal teen prospect Kelechi Nwakali is not having the best of club career despite his reported move to Spanish second division side Huesca on a free transfer during the summer transfer window.

According to Spanish Journalist Ralphael Sanz who writes a blog on Huesca, Nwakali’s move to Huesca is hanging on the thread despite the fact that the player and the club verbally agreed to the switch. No official announcement has been made ‎by the club but Arsenal announced it on their official website.

As a matter of fact, the 21 year old has not set foot at the club since the deal was agreed and even a routine medical is yet to be carried out on him. The situation however has nothing to do with the player’s abilities as its purely an administrative ‎issue.

” A deal ‎is in place but the paperwork for it to become official is far from done. That’s the reason why Huesca are yet to officially announce his signing. Even his medical is yet to be done, hence he is yet to start training. I doubt if he has been to Spain since his move from Arsenal was confirmed”, Sanz told Owngoalnigeria.com.

The midfielder is part of the U-23 team of Nigeria for the U23 Africa Cup of Nations and Sanz believe he could be heading somewhere else if he impresses at the tournament which starts on the 8th of November in Egypt.

” A good performance at the tournament could cost Huesca his services. Other clubs can make a move for him from what I gathered. I guess the player and his representatives are aware of this and that should spur him on at the Africa U23 Cup of Nations “.
