America have been investing largely on the Shale oil and solar power energy and depending less on crude oil as the word connotes, so, it's not surprising for Shell to buy into this future of power energy.

However, what's is cruder, is our sole dependency on crude oil to meet our national budget needs.

This, being good news, is not the issue. But ,Nigeria's notoriously corrupt system will infiltrate into this sector and yes it will come crumbing down just like the Nigerian system.

That's a short-sighted analysis.. What has nnpc done? Since its inception? We can't even manage a simple refinery and you're here saying whites should go. If not for them, I put it to you that we can't even mine our own oil..

Chevron Quitting Nigeria To Focus On Shale Back Home

Sources said that it has started discussing with buyers to sell some of its onshore and near offshore assets in Nigeria.

Chevron is divesting itself from oil fields in Nigeria for the shale fields in New Mexico and Texas.

Sources told Reuters that it has started discussing with buyers to sell some of its onshore and near offshore assets in Nigeria.
Information on the firm’s website shows that it has a 40 per cent stake in eight offshore oil blocks with the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, which holds a 60 per cent stake in the fields.

The company, which is Nigeria’s third largest oil producer, was delivering 194,000 barrels per day, 233m cubic fit of natural gas daily and 6,000 barrels of liquefied petroleum gas as at 2018.
Chevron will not do tenders for any of the assets it intends to sell.

Reuters reports that the company joins Royal Dutch Shell and Exon Mobil in divesting itself of fossil fuel assets in the country.

Those of you saying good news na wa o. I marvel at the level of stupidity so many people exercise in public forum. How many things have been left to Nigerians to run on her own and we couldn’t? We were even set free by the whites to govern ourselves and look at where we are since 1960? Ordinary border closed by the walking corpse we have a leader because foreign rice was sold for 17,500 highest price in major city, today Nigerian rice is sold for 26,000 naira now. Nigeria is on a self destruct nuclear time bomb waiting to detonate. Who have access to leave this country should do it now. The only way to save every living being inhabiting this nation is DIVISION.

Chevron is pulling out because it is no longer in their best interest to operate in Nigeria.
Do we have Nigerian firms that can sufficiently take over their operations?
For a country that still rely on other countries to fix it's roads, I doubt.
Our leaders need to realize that oil will not be here forever. They need to wake up and take adequate actions because the socioeconomic crisis in Venezuela will be child's play when our wells run dry.

It would have been a good news but when you consider NITEL, NEPA or Ajaokuta steel and how incompetent cum nonchalant Nigerians can be in terms of assets management, one cannot help but shudder.

I expected Chevron to have left Nigeria since because of the maltreatment of one particular ethnic Tribe, Itshekiri who think that the Company belongs to their ancestors undecided
These guys are very heartless, the reason why Ijaws don't want to see them eye-balls to eye-balls. One wonders why Chevron, an international company could be hijacked by this people both in recruitment and job placement, and royalty entitlements. embarassed

You cannot sell assets with the express permission of the FG.

The FG will never let chevron leave..

grin

Besides people dont read...

The article said some assets including near offshore and offshore..

Didnt say anything like the real money spinners for Chevron such as Agbami..

It's just a sensational news headline..

Nigeria needs the technological input of IoCs.

I marvel at the comments of those who see this as a very good news. People are mentioning Nigerian oil companies that are into oil drilling and exploration and I just want to ask just one question. How many of the Nigerian companies drilling/exploring oil in Nigeria has created as much value in the oil sector and to the society at large as much as the foreign oil companies? The issue isn't about whether indigenous companies can carry on, but whether they would operate with the same kind of professionalism that a chevron would operate with. No doubt, their exit could open up opportunities for the indigenous firms but what I doubt is if they would be as solidly run as chevron.
