From the game last night, i saw an improved defense even though there are still loose ends to be tightened. The Midfield was again dominant just like against Hungary. And this to me seems to be the most co-ordinated part of the team. However, their link-up play with the attack still needs to be worked on as for the most part of the game (until the last 5-10minute) there were hardly any good through passes. The attack is still not much co-ordinated. Let me just spend a some little time on them. Olusegun, a very talented player. He often reminds me of Funsho Bangboye of the 2015 crop: blistering pace with skills, excellent off the ball moves but his final decisions always let him down. He still needs plenty of coaching. Akinkunmi Amoo is a more polished player, already playing like a professional. Excellent dribbling skills, good ball holding capability and good with his final decisions. Wisdom Ubani, with pace and power. Always pressing the opposition. Reminds me of the young Uche Nwofor. He needs to learn to play more with less power and more skills.also his fitness level is a source of worry. Jabaar has always been an impact substitute since the AFCON. He comes to me as one of the most tactical players in that forwards line. Highly influential even though he is not as skillful as some of the other forwards. I can just say he is very efficient. Worthy of mention is Sai'd our Savior for the night. Excellent 3 goals, talk of precision. He also had a good game against Hungary. My major worry, is that unlike most of our previous U17 we do not have a dreaded point man. The forwards that have been expected to deliver the goods are yet to get off the mark. Well, just two games gone. Let's hope and see if there is improvement from them. Their fighting spirit is top notch! and I just wish the Super Eagles and Arsenal can learn that aspect of the game from these kids . The team overall still lacks cohesion, hopefully they will gel more as the tournament progresses. Congratulations to Nigeria! 1 Like |

DrKlever: How can it not be trash to an ethnocentric person like you? It's even glaring in this your comment. Reason being that you think the Northerners occupied the seat of power because of majority vote and not necessarily because they are better. Can you please tell us what is fine about the mind of Zik, Ironsi, Obasanjo and Jonathan when they were given the opportunity to rule? Did they turn Nigeria to elorado? Don't forget one even betrayed his master to death. Is that one a finest mind? Like I said earlier, you are an ethnocentric person. 3 Likes |

Time for Garba to give Divine Nwachukwu a chance to show what he is made of. I have said, this team is just huff and puff. Nothing more. They only play when the opponent's start getting tired nothing more. Just stamina, speed. No technique. After this level, they will all dissapear. Apart from Tijani, Amoo , Ikenna and maybe Olusegun, I really don't see any player with abilities in the team. Forget the Saaid guy, he is a flash in the pan, I have heard much about Divine, I need to see him play too. 1 Like 1 Share |

darkelf: there is no one toying tribal lines save for few myopic fellows here... I for one registered my displeasure against amuneke team of 2015 as it was littered with players from the south eastern region and I think none was from the core north... that alone doesn't speak well and none manu garba is replicating same script... if we don't condemn what is evil in this country, how will the country make progress manu garba, amuneke and few others are the few brains we've got presently as far Nigeria indigenous coaching circle is concerned and we must not let this men rubbish their coaching talents with the rigours of tribalism and sentiments... let's criticize them constructively when due...and praise them as well when they deliver..... fine...there is nothing that can be done presently but for the sake of next under 17 tourney let's say the truth as it is... because the injustice you tolerate today may come back to hurt you and your clan tomorrow. ... 1 Like |

Must all our national team be dominated by south east and south south players? forgiveness: There is nothing wrong with being ethnocentric. Virtually every Nigerian is ethnocentric, accusing someone of being ethnocentric is not scandalous, it is fine, it is advised and it should be promoted. If the entire black race had all the confidence in their race, black people would not be bottom of the barrel. An ethnocentrist is not a tribalist. Believing one's ethnicity is superior in certain climes, is not a crime. It is common knowledge in Nigeria that the SE and SS produces the best athletes, the West produces academicians and the North, politicians. There is nothing wrong in saying these as facts, nobody is saying there aren't exceptions, but everybody knows their lane in this country, and we should not come here and suddenly act ignorant of the status to seem self-righteous Forgiveness, you are the last person to be shouting about ethnocentrism because you and Omanbala hold the forte quite well for your ethnic groups on this thread. |

safarigirl: Fat lie. Who told you SE doesn't produce academicians? Who told you SW doesn't produce best athletics and politicians? Who told you the North is not in the equation? I am sorry to say that this is the height of ignorance. You can do better than this. There is no fact that even justify your claim that SE produces best athletics going by the fact on ground but just prejudice. What is your definition of holding forth for one ethnic group? I hope you have not confused fighting for justice and equality as ethnocentrism? 5 Likes 1 Share |

Humility017: Oga, let's stop all these tribal accusations. I don't think you guys know the weight of responsibility on these coaches. Why would they want to chose their tribes men as players at the expense of their jobs? Think about that. Even though some of us expect a kind of balance in the ethnic composition of our national teams, sometimes they are balanced and at other times they are not. Yes, a coach might chose a couple of players based on certain sentiments which could be ethnic, religious, political, economic etc. But be rest assured that the majority of players especially the key men in the team will be selected based on merit. For those accusing Manu of ethnic or religious biase look at his 2013 team. Is it not the team that produced likes of Iheanacho, Nwakali, Mathew, Ndidi, Ezeh, Nwobodo, Obasi, Uzoho, Okon, Just from off my head. How can we come in 2019 and accuse same man of ethnic or regional biase? And even for those accusing Amuneke of same in 2015, things like this happen where most of the best players that emerge will just spring up from a certain region which was the case in 2015 and now in 2019. Do you know there was no Yoruba player in Fani Amun's 1993 Golden Eaglets team? Do you also know there were not more than one or two Igbos in Yemi Tela's 2007 Golden Eaglets? But sometimes too, we have a mix of ethnicities like the John Obu's era of U17 and U20s. Things like these happen. It switches sides and then balances again. But the most important thing is that they are all representing Nigeria and we have to support every of our teams irrespective of the ethnic composition. 7 Likes 2 Shares |
