You keep arguing back and forth like you're in the game.... Like you were ever in the game. Haba

I don't know your area of expertise, but I wouldn't argue with you when you speak if I have no real life knowledge about it.... But in your case, you keep assuming and assuming. Not fair

I have hung out with drivers countless times at Chevron, VI, Allen, Ikeja GRA and others. I can't count how many times I've slept in a car. Drivers die... Not one, not two, not five sef. I know a driver in a whatsapp group that was killed at Oshodi. We even contributed in the group to assist him wife.

Stop arguing about what you've never experienced. This job is very risky at night. People who drive their cars alone at night are robbed and kidnapped, how much more someone picking up somebody he doesn't know
that guy is a riff raff ,stop quoting him

It only takes 5 minutes of my time, I'm doing you a favour by asking you to cancel so as not to waste your time. If I'm to cancel, I will slide "arrived" and wait for 5 minutes, it won't have any effect on my activity rate

And it's dishonest but apparently acceptable to you guys. So when a mechanic tells you he spent two days instead of one and a half I hope you won't complain

I don't think you guys are hearing us. We don't have a problem if you want to cherry pick. Just don't do it after signing a contract that addressed the exact situation. Nigerians will be told the conditions of a deal and will accept with the midset of re-negotiating after service or adhering only to the portions they like. That's why before we do any work customer must sign estimate or email acceptance of estimate. One company did and still came back when payment was requested telling my staff they will be by to negotiate the bill. I took over the transaction and informed the company there is no negotiation after signing estimate and I would reject their repairs in the future. Na Kia Kia full payment remit. Mmmchew

A bank can track anyone easily because they have your data: Address, ID, Utility bill, biometrics, and all that

How is it possible for Uber to track a rider just with a phone number as the only submitted info?

I think he understands. He just doesn't want to believe that Uber(as big as they are) don't have provisions for drivers safety

Yea, I think Orca believes it is that organised and perfect out there- but it isn't. Life has never been that straight forward anyway. There are lots of grey areas.

Drivers can easily be tracked, I can't say same for riders. That is why it is easier for riders to call out drivers on SM, with their pictures plastered everywhere.

i am sure uber also has options for reporting bad riders.

i am honestly inclined to think these stories are made up because even your regular kabu kabu driver will not carry passenger items.

This is Nigeria, where people feel entitled because they are paying for a service, they want to over use you.
if we all start telling stories you won't believe it
for examples

1. Rider asked me to come down and open her shop that the padlock is always hard. with command tune, had to do it.
2. Guy and babe asked me where dey can buy condom early morning, i took them to Pharmacy at Rita Lori, Surulere. guy brought out money dt i should go help buy condom. i said no ooh , d babe drop go buy am.
3. Guy in one hotel at Ikoyi asked me to go pick food at Awolowo road and bring to his hotel. no problem, brought the food got to the hotel and the next thing he called that i should bring to his Room up. Oga i just weak. (yeah d guy tipped me)

People with this 'God punish you' mentality

OK let me come down to your level so you can understand how this thing works

Keyword: Activity Score

- Bolt/uber sends you a trip and you see the rating of the rider and decide to ignore it, Activity score takes a hit.

- A driver decides to cancels due to road or weather conditions or maybe the rider was rdue or whatever, Activity score screams.

- A rider refusing to cancel because he's feeling special and wants bolt/uber to strike you, thereby forcing the driver to cancel, Activity score cries.

Now, there's a threshold.

If the driver cancels too much, his activity score plummets and he/she is kicked off the platform.

If we have so many ignorant riders like you displaying machismo, a lot of drivers would be getting yanked off.

The the law of economics comes into play because we now have few drivers. What happens when the demand is more than the supply?

Yea, SURGE cheesy

So at the end of the day who actually pays for it?

I am in disagreement because I do not think it is that hard for Uber to do. We are in the age of big data, and you get to a point where it is not practical to have multiple emails or phone numbers for business transactions.

I can only surmise that Uber has chosen a business model where their customers can be anonymous.

Every SIM card is supposed to be registered with verifiable bio data. If i go to mtn for a data sim for a device, they will still collect my bio data even though I am in the system. So they have a database with my name tied to multiple active sims.

I know the FG /ncc was going on about deactivation of non verified sims. I hope they bite the bullet and go through with it.

https://www.channelstv.com/2019/09/17/fg-gives-ncc-deadline-to-deactivate-2-24million-sim-cards/

After what happened to mtn in 2016/ 2017 with their fines, I will be surprised if any telco company is still sleeping on sim registration. The phone companies all share sim registration data with third parties, which is why there is so much spam. So I don’t see why they can’t do the same with Uber

It’s as simple as making people use google or facebook or an email to sign up with the service in combination with a number.

https://www.mtnonline.com/personal/number-search/

I have to wonder what that service is for.

Also, people have used telcos to track people in the past. We had an issue where someone in the office was getting threat calls. Security engaged police and mtn and the person was found.

From a technical standpoint, I believe it can be done if Uber has the will.

I picked a rider from Allen to lekki County home last night and the ride was a quite one and I made sure it was like that. Rider entered my car and sat at the back. I greeted her the first time, I didn't hear a response, I greeted her the second time, still didn't hear any audible sound that looked like she was responding. I turned and greeted her loudly this time that she was forced to answer but at that point I wished I hadn't turned to greet her because her shirt was loosed and all her boobs were just all over the place. I just quickly shook that picture off my head literally and told myself I will never look back at her to ask anything. While on the trip, this lady sat in the car as if she was in her parlour. How I knew was when her clawy toe nails touched my elbow while it was resting on the arm rest/clove compartment. Na there I turn back out of shock and being startled only to see say my sister don open leg here and there with her left leg on the arm rest and right knee pushing on the front passengers seat to keep her balanced and boobs still everywhere.

I wanted to tell her to put her legs down and sit appropriately, but when I remembered how things like this had escalated to something else from other drivers experience, I just told myself that it wasn't worth it. Moreover I may not see this lady again.

Na so I cool myself down and avoided any issues that could have sprung up.
Ended trip and it was 4400. Lady paid via transfer and thanked me.

While every Fibre in me was screaming SHE IS A PROSTITUTE I quickly silence that voice because whether you like it or not, I am not on this platform to be judgemental. I only drive because I love it and to earn some extra income even while I pray for my own car to come my way.

So my fellow drivers, this is what I have learnt in my little time of driving on uber.

1. If you are not comfortable with a ride you've already accepted kindly and politely tell the rider.
2. From my experience, rudeness of riders starts from the phone conversation but it is up to you to season your response with salt so as to calm her before you get to her. Works for me everytime.
3. Always ask them for their preferred route o. This one dey cause wahala well well. Even with the male riders. If traffic dey where dem dey tell you to take use Google map show them say that place red and why. Works for me usually.
4. Never expect your riders to always be nice that's not your entitlement. But by asking this question "How's your day going?" you will know if your rider will be nice or not and it will do two things for you.
It will let you know the state of the rider and also force him or her to respond to you which in turn will let you know if the rider is open to conversation or not. BTW, they'll know when you ask sincerely and that's how conversation starts.
5. I personally prefer transfer to cash payment as it makes it easy for me to save and not spend cash any how on petrol and food.
Last but not least as much as I can remember, don't drive on Uber with the mindset of "this is my car" because it will rob you off your professionalism. You are providing a service and hence you should be worth your service. If you see yourself as a "common Uber driver" it will affect how you handle your riders.

May the Good Lord prosper us in this hustle and keep us safe even as we enter the festive period.
Be safe guys and remember that your life is worth more than your daily target.

Disclaimer: the post above and the tips are just my experience and what I have been using that has been working for me. It might not be accurate and may not apply to some drivers. I stand corrected but still stand on what I belive works for me. Bless up guys

You prefer transfer?
Dem never do u 419 be4 for transfer

Ma'am, the agreement signed still permits the drivers to cancel trips. So, if a road is bad for a driver, he cancels. Uber or volt will decide when to bounce such driver when he overdoes the cancellation.

Riders are looking for loopholes, that's why the y want drivers to go to roads they can't take their cars to. But a driver who knows his leverage and right will cancel and go.

You are just a big idealist with little realism. Now I get where you come from. If the telcos are doing wonderful with Sim registration and tracking and collaborating with relevant security bodies, why are kidnappers never caught.

LMAO at the thought of the car hijackers being caught because of uber.

Personally I have two lines. The second line I bought solely for browsing. MTN doubles any data I buy, it was supposed to be for three months, this is the 6th month, any day they stop the free data, I'll simply throw away the line. Imagine if am a rider.
Now for riders to get multiple Sims for nefarious activities on UBER simply shows you that there's no collaboration between the telcos and uber, nor with the security agencies because new lines can't work without registration and our fingerprints are supposed to be in a central database, but at each Sim registration, I can put any name I want knowing the the telcos are never going to crosscheck the bios.

You do not get it. This is not about idealism. This is simple technology. Remember all the noise about per second billing being impossible to implement? You think mtn had to buy new equipment to do it?

If the federal government is serious about sanctions , you will wake up tomorrow and your improperly registered lines will simply not work.

This is not about physically sealing someone’s house. This is just flipping a switch or issuing a command in a server.

Most of these features are baked into the system at launch, but not used.

You know the way a company’s it can lock out a user who has been sacked? Or a software license server can reject fake keys?
Even now, every activity on every sim in every telcos network is tracked and recorded and can be called up if required.

Regulating SIM cards is simply a matter of will from ncc. Of course if they go through with it, we may start to hear complaints from Nigerians

People have been caught for much less than car hijacking.
