Good evening senior colleagues. Pls I want to know, when do I use JavaScript, Css and PHP respectively in developing a website. It confuses me. This is because, in styling, there are things (for example, animation) both css and JS can do. And JavaScript can be use to validate a form so as PHP. So this makes it hard for me to know which one to use on a particular stuff.

Well, let me just say this. This is my opinion though, another person may have his own.

Before you dive into programming, do your research and decide what aspect of Computer Science you want to go into. You could love gaming and want to make yours or you could love websites and web apps and decide you wanna explore that field.

Whatever you choose, do your research and know what languages you need to learn to achieve that goal. When you narrow that down, you go online again and ask what languages you need to learn to achieve your goal. You'd be bombarded with different opinions too but don't let that destabilize you. Like web development, some may say you need to learn HTML, CSS and JavaScript for the frontend. Others may say you need HTML, CSS, JavaScript and React. Choose the language that won't go out of demand in the next couple of years because what's the use of learning a language when you can't make cash off it.

So all I'm trying to say is, don't be in a hurry to just pick up a language and learn because many people learn languages without knowing how to apply it. That becomes useless knowledge. So, sit down and ask yourself what field you like in Computer Science and learn the languages pertaining to that field and on the plus side, when learning it, you won't get tired, you'd always remind yourself of the end result and what you'll be able to accomplish with this knowledge.

Luckily, there are tutorials on Udemy that teach you all the languages associated with a particular field so you don't have to source for tutorials all over.

Good luck, programmers, go out there and make a difference.

I'm really frustrated. Can't get the hang of it. cry

You are your own encouragement. What topic exactly are you stuck on?

I understand that feeling, presently doing self tutor on Java and got stucked at Array. At this point you will have this feeling that maybe you are not just good enough for this. Bro, its part of the process . Check out other materials online

Depending on what works well for you. I'd rather you use books instead of video tutorials at first, because books have a way of working the knowledge slowly into you without being in so much of a hurry.

Video tutorials have a tendency to want to squeeze to much within a short time frame without so much as considering the learner. However, there is one guy on YouTube that seems to be quite good. His name is kudvenkart, I think.

As for Arrays they are quite easy to grasp if you are a bit patient and see it visually in your head when building it.

As for me, my challenge was regular expression.

You are correct. I started learning Python with tutorial videos and it was as though I was just memorising (cramming) the whole thing. I almost gave up until I shared with a friend who has a background in programming. He just laughed and suggested I learn using books since I never had a background in IT. Python has been fun since then.

I strongly support your suggestion...start with books.

PS: check Coding ebooks, an app on playstore...you'll get loads of materials for different programming languages.

Good morning guys, please who knows where I can get Windows 7 SP1?

I have been trying to install .Net Framework on my system which runs on Windows 7, but the framework won't install and I read somewhere that I must install Windows 7 SP1 first.

I tried to download this, but it turned out to be fake and a regular Windows 7 Ultimate. My Windows Update also won't work.

Does anyone have the Windows 7 SP1 sofcopy in Lagos or know a shop where I'm sure to get an original copy. I'll be glad

Hi guys, i just started this journey into IT and i will like to start with Java, going through this thread, it is advised to start with books instead of videos. What books can the experts prescribe lol, which videos to subcribe to on youtube. I would not mind being an apprentice to an expert if that works too.

Thanks guys.

I am newbie
Stumbled upon this thread last week and i decided to start with python.
I am still studying the basics: variables, types, values, Boolean expression, logic, etc.
And today i wrote my first script that can be used to convert a Fahrenheit degree to celcius degree to challenge myself.

When excuted in python interpreter
It will ask user for his name
Tell user that his same name is his password
If password is correct, it will move forward to conversion stage which will convert any Fahrenheit degree to celcius,
and if not it will write incorrect password and close.

Also, if during conversation, a user put anything other than number, it will prompt user to type in just number.

I just hope i become better as i progress.

Bro, I want to start with Python too
Pls, can you recommend the materials that have been helpful to you.
Thanks

Both are good. Depends on what works for you. You should devour lots of books though because books helps you with time to understand and assimilate. By the way, two posts before yours addressed this issue.

For Web development you can start with your phone. Check out codeacademy and Sololearn for the very basics of the basics to get you comfortable with the whole process before building anything. You can send a pm for more details
