Better focus your mind on industrial or environmental microbiology bcoz there's no space for microbiologist in the hospital Lab, i graduated from microbiology 2 years ago, worked in d lab for a while (hospital underpays, infact they only employ microbiologist to cut cost, started with 25k, over d years craw to 35k)now into business. Currently now Medical. Lab have a guiding body preventing d microbiologist from working in the lab, any hospital caught pays a fine of 200k. It's sad
Ehhhhh nawa ooooo, but here in ondo state there are space for microbiology and biochemistry to work in the lab, ondo state hospital just offered a slot of 15 MCB and 15 BCH in the state hospital to work and there pay is 150k starting from level 8

Ah, have ALWAYS wanted to be a media personnel: newcaster or reporter, OAP. I was ALWAYS crazy about radios, TV, newspapers, news, current affairs etc. At a point i knew the names of ALL the ministers, governors and commissioners in my state. I knew the names of the heads of ALL the major parastals in the country. I knew the names of ALL the broadcasters on my favourite radio channels & can recognise them just from their voice. I was the one then you go to if you hear a "rumour " about something in the nation & you want to confirm if it's true. I once told my mum i will be the first CNN live reporter from Nigeria. Everyone around me knew this was what I wanted to be.

All of a sudden, the dream died! Or will i say, abandoned.
What happened?

After going through a course in FRCN(Federal Radio Corporation on Nigeria) training school & doing my IT in VON(Voice of Nigeria), i was working on my project & i was to mock-interview a friend while recording it & submit. On one of the occasions, i was playing back the recording and i heard myself. I wasn't impressed. I didn't know that was how I sounded. I asked him if he thought I sounded bad too & he said, "yes". That was it! I was so hurt and felt defeated. And because he was someone that meant a lot to me, it hurt more. Had it been he even offered solutions as to how to remedy that & at least assure me that i can work on it, i could have still pursued a career in that field. But i was young, naive and gullible and i let that get to me.

But now, I'm pursuing another passion i never knew I had: teaching. I'm happy & fulfilled doing that. I was perhaps born to be one cos I'm killing it!

Dreamt of being a pilot or a soldier

I just loved the idea of flying and protecting my country but I didn't know how to go about it as a kid; no enabling immediate environment then

Just finished my first degree in Accounting; doing my NYSC at the moment, and I have high hopes of making it in the corporate world as an Auditor or FFF...

Praise to the Almighty.

With which licence? There are regulatory bodies now my dear and one can hardly practice in medical institutions without a valid licence. (Everyone is aware nothing is impossible in Nigeria) Am in Lagos State. If your claim is valid then these people must have a prominent person in osun state government who enlisted them, even so the discrimination still persist, hence their career will suffer on discovery that they have no licence to practice in the lab. Haematology (collection of patient's blood samples and analysis) is not part of microbiology and biochemistry undergraduates curriculum in school. So it's a temporary privileged they have to enjoy while it last!

Nigerian universities can change people's dreams sha especially when you're not ready to fight. I've always wanted to be a doctor but was given mass communication after my first jamb. I took jamb again and to the glory of God my childhood dream will come to pass in less than 12 months from now.

It is well...may God help us all in this country...I just asked from a government nurse and she said exactly what you said about regulatory bodies but she said they are still on the case though, that both unions are still at it

Am very generous with advice and facts. Microbiology has no body/union, not a single one! Only med.lab has, Let me give you a hint of the way out and then thank me later: Most of our senior colleagues went back to school via direct entry (some medicine, some pharmacy) but I choose masters degree, maybe to secure a lecturing job later, a friend who has masters in MCB told me M.Sc is still overrated.

die hard like us achieved our dreams after paying great prices but my advice to up coming youths now is that your dreams and suffering to get it may not worth it ,from my childhood every body in my house calls me engineer. when I was small before u know what was happening I would have dismantled may be our bicycle or any other item I can lay my hands on , I even had a tool box , as little as I was ,I got admissions to study biologicall sciences after graduation i went for my post graduate and still applied for engineering luckily I got both , I did my post graduate and engineering d same time so i will say that I have achieved my desire to be an engineer but all my mates that graduated with me during my first degree are now multi millionaire while me I am an engineer but just made my first million last year. they are far ahead of me ,and I found out that dreams are personal that what really matters is your achievements, d stress of going back to school I would have used it to be a multi millionaire by now. society doesn't check your dreams but they check your achievements.
