Whether the guy is a doctor or not is secondary to the discussion. There's no need to deviate into ad hominem attacks. His points are seemingly valid nonetheless. 3 Likes |

Fyi0:His points are based on lies....he said he was a doctor so that people can buy his lies.... He has no idea what medical/dental school is all about....and he is not willing to learn from those that do.... He should stop spewing lies about what he knows nothing about.... 3 Likes |

Fyi0: Thanks. Someone will definitely see the truth, and hold on to it. I never expected Dentists to agree with me, but the public are more aware now. The so-called investigation are also quite baseless. Taking a swipe at Doctors does not stop you from being one. The boys who where holding the residency matter on their heads and were shrugging shoulder with the aid of their 11th cranial nerve are all out of the country now, and have said more unprintable things about the Nigerian health system. When people are in a hole they leave the subject, and cling on to baseless things like the OP and his cronies, who have helped to derail the thread badly |

sgtponzihater1:The point is that you lie too much....if u could lie just to prove a point, it shows that u are only a hater, not a person that is willing to learn....so, there is no point in trying to educate u anymore.... And ur hate for "doctors" goes well to show that u are just trying to cause division between this two great professionals who are doctors.... I gave up on u When I saw how much a lot of professional doctors (medical/dental) tried to educate u (on many other threads) and u were still adamant.... 4 Likes |

Maid007: I should educate you and many other Medical students and not the other way round. I love everyone and every profession, but can't withstand lies spewed to look larger than life |

I will do a thread to educate 21st century prospective MBBS Doctors if I have the time. I would make no mention of Dentistry because I am not fully aware of what goes on in their faculty after veering off from 5th year. And my thread won't connote that Medicine is better than any other course , but the opportunities that lie ahead. |

horpeyemmi66: Nairaland is a place where everyone can raise their shoulder and speak what they deem appropriate. In the real world bills pile up to pay and the value of the Doctors in Nigeria, let alone the Dentists dwane badly. There in lies the mistake of most Nigerian trained doctors, inability to smell the fish. The world is moving fast at the speed of thought, and people are making giant stride without making vain and inaccurate boasts about fictitious topics they think they studied. After 3years of having a degree, I was ready to hold myself by the bootstrap and hold my future in my hands. I ignore all the plenty academic jargon and look at the coming decade with expectancy and hope in what importunity and faith can do for me and all those who are progressive. Cheers |

dunsin125: As long as the University is fully accredited by MDCN, and NUC, you are good to choose any. NDUBayelsa, LASUTH, OSUTH, LaUTECh, all have good graduates with the first 2 being very good ATM, but school doesn't matter as long as u have full accreditation. The licence is the major thing. |

sgtponzihater1: The point of all these epistles is just to prove one point, Medicine is different and distinct from Dentistry lol. Funny thing is, no one on this thread is claiming they are alternatives. You just kept whirling around in circles to prove a moot point 3 Likes |

Mikolion87: you having to quote me more than a month after I made the post showed the amount of insecurity you must be suffering from... unfortunately for you, I am in a med school where medical and dental students run classes till part 4...should I need to know more about dentistry??, I'd ask my my roommate who happened to be the president of dental students association in my school - not from an imposter and irresponsible fella like you. I don't know how the argument got to this but maybe I should just say how things are done in College of Medicine, University of Ibadan. In 100l medical and dental student do science courses, when the pass their exam at the end of the academic year they move to preclinical school and if they don't pass they either withdraw or cross to another department. In Preclinical school which runs for about 18months, they both do Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry and medical statistics. But in addition to these, dental students do dental anatomy. At the end of the 18months, they write their first professional examination MBBS Part1 for the medical students and BDS part 1 for the dental students. The BDS Part1 includes dental anatomy. When they pass the exam they move to clinical school, if they fail a course they resit the course, if they fail 2 or more courses they join the next class, if they fail the resit they join the next class. In clinical school, they both do Pathology, Pharmacology, Medicine1, Medicine2, Surgery1, Surgery2(all surgery units), Pediatrics1(all pediatric units but on the wards no clinic work), Radiology and Radiotherapy, Special posting 1(ENT, Opthamology, Anaesthesia, Dentistry). Then they both write their respective professional exams MBBS part 2 for Medical students and BDS part 2 for Dental students. Note that this second professional exam contains only Pathology and Pharmacology. This exam is usually taken at the end of 400l. So moving into 500l, Medical and dental students more or less part ways. At the beginning of 500l, dental students start preparing for BDS part 3 which includes Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, radiology and radiotherapy, Special Posting. They go for revision postings in Medicine and surgery then sit for the BDS part 3 exams. After this, dental students go on to Dental school and write 3 more professional exams, ending with BDS part 6. On the other hand their MBBS counterparts go on to O&G, Psychiatry, Medicine 3, Surgery 3, Pediatrics 2 (clinic work), community medicine, Special postings 2 and write 2 more professional exams MBBS part 3 (Pediatrics/ O&G) then Part 4 (medicine and surgery). Usually in University of Ibadan, Dental curriculum ends 2 weeks after the MBBS curriculum ends. They are inducted the same day and are both regarded as doctors. If a dentist wants to go back and get the MBBS, he'd have to take an 18 months course at the end of which he'd lose his BDS degree. If a Medical doctor wants to get the BDS degree, he'd have to take a 3 years course at the end of which he'd lose his MBBS degree. In other words, in Nigeria, it's not possible to have both degrees. Also worthy of note is the fact that in UI, especially from 500l it is more expensive to study dentistry. On a final note, MBBS and BDS isn't the same thing. Their holders can both head a medical institution as CMD in Nigeria. They both belong to the MDCN. BDS isn't so popular because of the limited number of schools that run the course and the limited quota given to these school. Another misconception is that dentists deal with teeth only, dentists deal with the oral health, a greater part of their work just involve the teeth. Dentistry is more lucrative in developed countries, though practicing in Nigeria will guarantee you comfortable life. We don't have to try to pull down a course to make another one seem more important. All health care professionals are unique in their own way and contribute to the physical, mental and social well-being of their patients. I hope this helps someone somewhere someday. angiography: 4 Likes |
