What is more worrying is whether this applies evenly to all citizens
How much duty is paid on goods brought in with the Presidential jets
exactly!!! if that woman was a minister, senator or rep, I'm quite sure the inglorious officers would have been falling all over themselves to even help carry her luggage whioe conveniently forgetting there's a word called duty......thieves!!

So in Nigeria you gave to pay duty now for personal belonging and to apc this is the right way of life because I can see some already saying it's alright.

When this incompetent government leaves there will be a lot of work to do to reverse the heavy damage they might have caused but that still depend if Nigerians will vote right

The speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila on reacting to the viral report during a seating, instructed the Chairman House Committee on Customs and finance to investigate the matter and review the customs act.

Ability to read and comprehend is the weak point of many Nairalanders. Just call them to come and yab person. I'm still trying to understand Buhari's fault here

This is ridiculous as the government is bent on killing Nigerians with tax. Imagine paying duties through my nose on the suit I bought via an e-commerce site from the UK 3 months ago!! Hope the speaker is not just using lip service to this issue because we are watching in 3 D!!! angry angry cool

I hope you know this is an old law (made when 50k was considered a huge sum).

I’m glad that the Speaker has reacted this quickly and that we will see a review of that archaic law.

I think the review is needed just
like many laws in this country.

This 5Ok limit may have been put in
place when $1 was like N2O &
N5Ok was like $25OO..

There are still some crimes that the
option of fine is like N5O!!

Our law makers must wake up!!

Early this year I bought undies worth 30k from asos and guess what I was asked to pay 5k while delivery was free from the U.S, I paid extra 1k. Well i had to pay because it is in Nigeria already,if you don't pay, they will make use of them, so your loss. It's crazy place to be now......Nigeria.

Permit me to say It’s indirectly his fault, buhari and his APC team scammed us with one strong slogan...”to sanitize this corrupt system” .....and up till now...these agencies are more than corrupt than ever...

no single compliance check since he came into power, not a single mystery shopping exercise to make example of a few bad ones so the rest in this agencies can can buckle up....
This scenario that happened to that banker happens regularly, the immigration officers inflate ur duties so u can beg and end up bribing them to get ur merchandise in....
Same exploitation goes on when people come for passports..: same with police, civil service, customs is in another whole level.. the corruption and exploitation happening there is on a witchcraft level...
We know the president won’t come and do magic and fix all the problem of the nation..::but it doesn’t take rocket science to do some small sanitization that the masses will feel when they go for service with these corruption-stricken agencies....

The situation is so bad now that the custom officials will enter pple's shops to pack bags of foreign rice in my state. My question is did they only close border on those goods the north have comparative advantage over other regions? In Akwa Ibom we produce so much palm oil, why is palm oil instead of increasing in price decreasing every day?. This country is sick!

The first thing that needs to be investigated is to find out whether the N175,000 collected went into government coffers or into individual pocket. I can bet you that the money was shared between the custom offficers and their "Master" who posted them to the airport so that they can "rob" Nigerians. What a bunch of human faeces!
