Is there any law that prohibits the Enugu state government from repairing the damaged parts of Enugu-Onitsha road that passes through the centre of the capital city?
Between the 82 division and trans ekulu is not motorable on one side and this is putting tremendous pressure on the ekulu bridge/flyover.
That structure is a ticking time bomb.
The previous government did a lot of work in the city center and high streets.
One was expecting this government to pick up and complete other suburbs and huge population hubs like Abakpa and Emene which are key to keeping housing costs affordable and the city livable.
But they are just docile. To me this is a deliberate way to tactfully loot.
This government as far as I'm concerned has no interest in doing any novel project.
They are just shortchanging the electorate.
If Enugu continues on this part of a particular party ticket guaranteeing victory at the polls the state will be run aground.
It is just a matter of time.

Private Estates International West Africa, promoters of Enugu Lifestyles and Golf City, has flagged off a special package for people from the South East geopolitical zone to invest in the Coal City.

Tagged ‘Akuluouno’, the think-home scheme is offering considerate incentives to Igbo people in the Diaspora to own property at affordable cost.

Managing Director of the company, Kingsley Eze, who led his team on a sensitisation road show on the streets of Enugu, last Saturday, said that particularly consideration would be given to people from the region displaced by insurgency in the North East.

He described Enugu as the capital of the South East, noting that if other well-meaning Igbo people could come and invest in the city; it will indeed create wealth and boost standard of living.

He explained that the idea was in tandem with the general call for the Igbo to invest in the South East as further canvassed in a recent conference organised by the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN), South East.

“Akuluouno is our concept where people from this side of the country are encouraged to bring down their investments to Enugu. Before now, our maximum discount was five per cent if you’re making down payment, but with the Akuluouno promo, you can get as much as 10 per cent, even when you are paying in many instalments. We also offer very flexible payment plans. We are using this as an opportunity to encourage our people especially those that have been displaced by the insurgency in the north to come and invest in Enugu which is the capital of the South East states” he stated.

Eze added that luxury, serenity and security were the hallmarks of the Enugu Lifestyle and Golf City.

Serene Coal City....with loads of land for development...‘Akuluouno’ ...people!

Try and bring part of your wealth here. You can still be in Lagos, Abuja and PH and create part of your business here. Property development, starting with very light industries for water distribution, tooth pick, cotton bud, pampers, toilet roll, boxer making, nail remover, poultry, pharmacy, parks, (there are loads of hotels already), more private schools especial technical for self employment, Agric-value chain industries and packaging, Cinemas and theatres, Modern markets...There are many things needed in the city that would make people stay and prosper..

As you can see from this thread nothing is happening in Enugu. Few days ago, #Gburugburuisnotworking trended on Twitter.

Like Nigeria, I'm also hearing that Enugu is broke. Reason why we're amongst states without commissioners.

God bless you Sir!

I actually laugh at those clamouring for the airport to be closed down because they believe those Fulanis will truly build anything there.

Fulanis are ONLY interested in upgrading Kano, Kaduna, Katsina and Sokoto airports.

If they had their way, they would even close Lagos and divert the traffic to Kaduna. They have tried in futility to make Kaduna a functional international airport and failed. That is why they are bent on destroying Enugu because Hadi Sirika says Kaduna is to the north what Enugu is to the East.So he didn't understand why Enugu should have a functional international airport, if Kaduna couldn't. While he conveniently forgot that they have Kano International in their zone, while the southeast zone doesn't even have any at all! Kano international airport is the reason why Kaduna cannot have a viable international airport operation. ]

horsepower101:
Enugu is resilient

Enugu is a resilient city because it was once a heavily damaged and destroyed city.

Yet it fixed itself and it is today one of the few livable cities in Nigeria. An amazing feat accomplished without any sort of Federal government reconstruction or re-development commission after the civil war. Infact, Enugu fixed itself despite overt negative actions by the Federal Government of Nigeria to keep it in the stone age by denying it any tangible federal presence or major project.
Even its international airport which was reluctantly approved after so many years of appeal has been closed down indefinitely by Buhari. Under the guise of 'Reconstructing its runway and taxiway"

The jury will be out to judge if the "work" they finally did in that airport justified closing it down for so long.

ChimaAdeoye:

It is clear that the current Federal regime is determined to find silly excuses to close the ONLY international airport in the entire Southeast region. Rather than fix it, this airport has been criminally abandoned by the regime and now, they are looking for who to blame and excuses to close it down rather than fix the superficial issues identified.

When people fuss about terminal building without first identifying the evil done against the runway and taxiway, it exposes their ignorance about the plot of the ministry of aviation against the aiirpot.

1. The AIIA airport is still the ONLY international airport in Nigeria that lacks completed taxiways to both ends of the runway.
2. Five issues had been identified that would affect the successful expansion of the airport and the future second runway proposed for the airport. These issues are labeled A,B,C,D and E in the satellite image below.

A: Illegal and now abandoned classroom built by Nigerian Airforce Enugu very close to the main runway

B: The settlement on the northeast aspect of the airport which will prevent a second runway project if it's not relocated.

C: The suddenly growing construction of new settlement on the northwest aspect of the airport, which will frustrate a second runway

D: A Duplex recently built by a powerful ex-military man well within the safety distance upon completion of Taxiway to Runway 08

E: Eke-Orie Market Emene believed to have abattoir that can cause bird strike for incoming plane.

The question is WHY the abattoir has been made such a sensational issue by Hadi Sirika, while cleverly neglecting the abandoned classroom built by the air-force very close to the main runway nor the growing settlements within the airport side of Ekulo river that will frustrate the second runway expansion project if they are not addressed? Who is the former military man that was allowed to build a duplex so close to the taxiway to runway 08? Why was the Eke-Orie market speedily demolished, but this duplex that is even closer to the airport left unscathed?

If the FG is sincere about fixing the identified issues including resurfacing of the Enugu runway with new drainage, why not come clear with a project timeline and also identify airport very close to Enugu which will be used temporarily to divert Enugu flights to minimize inconvenience of passengers as he vehemently argued for Kaduna airport and not Lagos or Kano international airports, during a similar runway resurfacing project for Abuja airport?

It is clear the the FG is criminally intent on neglecting the Akanu Ibiam International airport because it believes it is an airport for Igbos and not for the entire country. Apart from Enugu International being incomparable to other international airports in Kano, PH, Kaduna, Lagos and Abuja,
it is incomprehensible that the same FG will build a brand new International airport complete with Taxiways and night landing facilities in New Bussa, Niger State just to service Kainji dam, but neglect a major international airport serving a whole sub-region of Nigeria.

It is now one month and 3 days since the Akanu Ibiam International airport was notoriously shut down. Yet, not even one bulldozer has been mobilized to site to remove the illegal structures identified and extend the runway and taxiway as stated.

I feel there is a need for the authorities to keep an eye on the already identified illegal structures labeled A,B,C and D in the picture below. Those illegal structures could be removed as we are awaiting the construction equipment to mobilize to site. Again, those illegal structures A,B,C,D within the airport so no state approval is required to remove them now before construction on runway and taxiway begins. Especially the illegal structures labeled A and D which are along the path of the taxiway.

Truly, all we are really asking for isn't anything major or fancy. Just to build AIIA runway & taxiway to at least meet the Standard of New Bussa airport which was built to international standard of 3.5 KILOMETER by 60 METERS length and width of runway connected by the taxiway at both ends of the runway.
Then Buhari and Fulani cabal in his regime would have demonstrated goodwill towards Ndigbo and Igbos will in turn appreciate Buhari if this project was borne out of sincere desire to upgrade the airport runway and taxiways to meet the standard of other international airports at Port Harcourt, Kano, Kaduna, Abuja and Lagos.

I am so glad that the Golf City Project now sell land and allow people to build the type of building in designated areas of the city.

With this initiative, they will quickly achieve their purpose and complete the city project.

5 years in office, the governor of Nsukka has not construct 1 kilometer 'standard road' outside Nsukka zone. Meanwhile, over 70% IGR comes from the abandoned Enugu metropolis. A governor who receives billions of naira monthly from the federal government yet nothing to show for it. He is siphoning our money to develop Abuja where he belongs. We are keeping records because he will leave office one day.

A Nairaland-based Enugu governor PR says that he focused on rural development in his first term.

So, this second term, he will concentrate on the urban centers. Enugu, in my opinion, doesn't have deplorable infrastructure. The governor just needs to intervene in critical places like Emene and Abakpa. For instance, Abakpa junction and Holy Ghost roundabout need flyovers. Those places experience chaotic traffic at Christmas.

I have not visited Enugu since last Christmas, but I think the rural areas deserve more government intervention. Some of them have terribly bad roads and without electricity. If they are neglected, it will lead to massive rural-to-urban migration, thus ramping up rents in the city.

So I was prancing through the internet and I came across these old pictures of Enugu taken in 2012 showing the works of Sullivan.(light up Enugu project).
People keep lambasting Chime that he only concentrated on the capital, this is true but at least his works speak for him.
Ugwanyi and his sycophants keep claiming that he is concentrating on rural areas, but my question is what exactly has ugwanyi done??
Apart from let the works of his predecessors crumble into ruins..

Nobody is hailing mediocrity.

The problem with Enugu is that there's no vibrant opposition.

Electorates don't even know what opposition means, so the state will have to make-do with anything PDP gives her.

Do you think this administration is receiving enough pressure and criticism from the masses?
The state doesn't have to make do with anything PDP gives her, the masses can demand for what they want to be done for their state.

This is true.
The masses hold the real power to demand for better leadership but they keep silent and expect some magic to happen.
The vocal ones are bought over with a few crumbs falling from the table.
A thread that was bombarded with new projects and accelerated to over 500 pages hardly ever gets any substantial update because there is simply nothing to update.

It was built on the location of the former zoo. However, i personally feel they could have turned that land into a huge park! Enugu (just like all other SE states) are fond of building in any available land they see within the city...all they’re thinking of is profit! See what they did to the former polo park!

A city needs at least one large park that can help it breathe and mop up the carbon-dioxide in the atmosphere, as well as serve as a place where families can go to chill, excercise or bond!
