I think so too, make we wait until we confirm from the horses mouth, cbn. After all, cbn made a clarification btwn OMO n tbs some days ago, having realized some people mistake omo with tbs

Don't doubt Punch reach, especially if you understand how the directive aligned with the CBN's 65 percent loan-to-deposit ratio.

I explained it here https://investorsking.com/no-more-treasury-bills-for-individuals-says-cbn/

Nigeria is an economy with 23.1 percent unemployment, it is normal monetary and fiscal policies are focus on stimulating jobs. Go and invest in the real economy.

Gosh, can i cope without tbs? My ten years budgets are drafted on this investment . I'm thinking hard now , maybe time to chanel some money to Ghana tbs , i once made enquiry from a bank over there, they accept foreigners but you need a resident permits to open an account, some money to stanbic dollars funds, some to Fg bonds, some to real economy ( transportation, insured Toyota siennas for inter-state, 10 keke will roll in 4m annually ). I'm hoping this new cbn policy will be a blessing in disguise . Thinking hard
Transportation is a money spinner, but do your homework.

I think we are missing the point here. Please remember that sometime ago CBN placed 50m as minimum for individual to invest in TBills, and Banks started buying on our behalf, so in reality we are not buying as individuals.
What i understand from this new directive, is individuals with 50m that have been buying Tbills (they are the ones that can state their rate) are the ones banned, but banks can still be buying (in other words, including us with less than 50m)

I hope this is the case

Cheers

I wrote about diversification into different investments and asset classes a few weeks ago.

Treasury bills, bonds, corporate bonds, commercial papers, real estate, stock market.

If you have the temperament, patience, resources invest in a small business.

Some stocks currently have a dividend yield of 15% and above, this is where the hundreds of billions and trillions of naira from the pension fund managers will be invested

I just came across an offer from Renmoney Fixed Deposit.

The rate is 19% p.a

Has anyone here invested with them before?

No CBN is not idiot, people like you generalise your understanding and assumed it apply to all. CBN has the right data and knows precisely what needs to be done.

When 60% LDR policy was enforced in September, didn't borrowing to the real sector surged?

If you are making the money from the real sector what is stopping you from investing in the same sector? But no, like most smart investors you rather put your money in a risk-free investment. It is not an issue but knows that Nigeria is at a critical stage and all hands must be on deck.

Your 20 truck is not CBN issue, just know there are bigger fishes with a sizeable amount in tb and not welling to diversify unless forced.

I have a strong feeling that this guy is the same as @healthserve.

He is happy that CBN wants to stop Tbills.

Oga, whether CBN stops Tbills or not, we will still not invest in your "real sector" businesses.

They augment and sustain the nation's foreign reserves, the country is in the process of diversification. Things like this and border closure are normal to revamp local manufacturing, force the consumption of local products and stimulate growth.

Because cbn is defending the Naira

emmanuelewumi:

Because cbn is defending the Naira

You guys are living in Nigeria at least you should understand your own economic structure. Nigeria is a mono-product economy (usually, take crude oil and sell, then use the proceed to service the economy) that method is no longer working with slowing oil demand and unstable oil market amid the ongoing campaign to end fossil fuel.

These policies are to help diversify the economy by stimulating growth from within against the usual foreign dictated path (healthy when oil market is positive and down when not). What you called defending the Naira is what is ensuring dollar liquidity in Nigeria (petrol-dollar economy). Until the economy is fully diversified, CBN will continue to maintain that forex policy.

@masterofdisrupt -CBN has not stopped treasury bills sales to individuals
-CBN has stopped individuals & local corporates from participating in its Open Market Operations (OMO) treasurys liquidity management
-Individuals can still buy the regular Nigeria Treasury Bills (NTB) and treasury bonds (https://twitter.com/BBoason/status/1192362273286819840?s=17)

Stock market will boom with this ban.

but i wont join them
(mago mago full there both on companies side and NSE itself)

its money market fund or bond time.

if none of the above works.. Dump it in savings account till Emefiele retires.

WHAT IS so WRONG with individuals choosing to loan govt their savings so govt can use it for the development that is making it go abroad and beg for loans?

that CBN gov has lost a nut!
he NEVER expected to return there..
perhaps, this is Buhari's worst mistake in this next level.
