The number of states has nothing to do with our undeveloped status. Rather more states should have accelerated development. Your reasons considered allocation from the FG. |

BeachTime:I'm just telling you the Idea behind more States. And even if you reduce the number of states nothing will change, corruption is our biggest problem, we can develop with 30billion a year if we're serious. |

The number of states is not the problem. In my opinion, Nigeria is simply not productive enough as a nation, simple. Even with the so-called 'restructuring', the country will still seriously struggle because it is not generating enough wealth to lift its citizens out of poverty. The states can't fend for themselves without federal allocation, and that won't change even if you decides to merge some of them today. Many smaller countries like the Netherlands are generating more wealth annually (£300-billion euros) for their much smaller population than Nigeria is, (Nigeria is estimated to have made just a relatively paltry $370-billion in oil revenues since 1970 [oil is by far Nigeria's largest income earner] while the Netherlands is making more than that in a single year), so that tells you we are just not being productive enough in spite of our huge population. In that sense, one can be forgiven for saying Nigeria is just 'big for nothing'. 2 Likes |

BeachTime: ....and if the leaders continued with the jumbo salaries take home and robbing Peter to pay Paul, building dry port whereas we have abandoned seaports, lavishing funds to search for crude oil where it doesn't exist, fighting the shadows of corruption when the main corruption is left untouched.....the development will keep on snails movement |

Only true federalism can save the situation. |
Re: - by Nobody: 6:56am On Nov 08, 2019 |
Make everybody chop from their resources chikena, some people be suffering effect of oil spillage/drilling. Some people dey enjoy the money elsewhere. rubbish. We don't belong together, one day everywhere go burst am sure. |

BeachTime: You should have realized that parasites who love free oil money will never agree with you. Do you want their pockets to dry? All their lives depend on it. You may have good intentions but not with unity beggars and even discussing topics like this they will like to frustrate you with nonsense excuse |
Re: - by ziegurf(m): 7:08am On Nov 08, 2019 |
afroniger: ....the so-called federal allocation comes from where, maybe from some wealthy States to share among other poor States, Nigeria can only be productive when they applied pure practical education into our education system from secondary to the universities, apply more funds into agriculture and industries, quit flamboyant lifestyle of the government officials and shun the idea of depending on crude oil wealth generating |

BeachTime: Mr professor, your arguments does not hold water. Is it by landmass, states before development? Do you think if Nigerians politicians/ leaders were from Usa, USA will be developed like this? Btw, hope you are aware Alaska is bigger than Texas in land mass.. How many major cities in Alaska? |

Re: - by Nobody: 7:39am On Nov 08, 2019 |
Lol. You have oversimplified Nigeria's problems. Nigeria's problems are multifaceted and it's got nothing to do with states. For example, which state in Nigeria has conducted a local government election in the past ten to twelve years? The governors only install their stooges there as caretakers, taking advantage of a loophole in the law. Yet local government is the closest to the grassroot and should ordinarily drive development. A united Nigeria will always crawl and stumble. A Nigeria pretending to practice democracy will continue to stagnate and breed different pests and parasitic organisms called politicians. |
Re: - by Nobody: 7:42am On Nov 08, 2019 |
BeachTime: That isn't the point per she. The point is, the allocation they get per month, what have successive governors done with it? Even the little they get can still turn that state into a paradise for its people. Most of the money end up in private pockets. |
