The dream took 4 years to come to pass.

I started by saving up money during my housemanship.

After NYSC,I was lucky to start residency programme. I still worked in private hospitals at my free time.
Meanwhile,I took the necessary exams..In Nigeria and UK.

Passed...Got an offer in Norwich,where I'm based now.
My hubby is making plans to join me next year.

Leaving Nigeria is the best decision I have ever taken in my life so far.

No sugar coating, if they want to travel, the best route is study , otherwise they'll become another statistic along with other Nigerians ruining the country's reputation .

Please fellow if you don’t have that special skill with special visa or a student visa to come study and go back home please I would advise you not to come here. Forget what you watch on tv or the pictures you see on social media. Hussling is real and if you don’t have papers for proper work you will regret coming to America. Go to New York. You will cry for our young pple. Life is stressful here in USA. Please consider your options and make traveling-out your very last last option like option Z out of possible option from A-Z.

this thread is funny but I'll share anyways...I had been hustling to play football after my university days..schooled in Accra and decided to start from there hoping something works out but my parents kept insisting I come home for my nysc..I sha obeyed because I was pressured by mumcy..you know how mumcies can be na....got to Nigeria 2015 and that was the wrongest time(pardon the word wrongest)...spoke to mum about the football dream and she backed me up..immediately dad also agrees and enrolled me in an academy in abuja there..that was the beginning of the plan to leave naija o..things where so slow..so I decided to go for greener pastures abroad because the the team here in Nigeria I finally signed for never paid me a dime..finally I convinced pops to bankroll my move to Germany for a trial with Frankfurt fc but trust nigerian agents na, they ended that dream by scamming us of 4million naira and that was how my dad pulled out..he was so pissed but mum kept trying to support me...finally I met another agent after a year of sorrow and hard work...he then asked me to bring 2mill for visa and ticket and payment for his services...he finally got me a ticket and visa to Azerbaijan..with hope and thinking my hustle had finished, I got to Baku and found out the man had no club waiting for me o..lolzz...was so devastated and decided to return home and not exceed my stay.. came home and got a job after 4 yrs of chasing football..got married last year and doing well right now..sometimes I look back and laugh but it wasn't funny then o...I feel its not about leaving the country..you can be blessed here if you only get the right connect trust me..wish you all the best

My story is two part.
First, I was an undergraduate studying Russian language in Unilag and decide to go Russia, get Russian visa thru Unilag, went to Russia and only to be refuse entry. The whole journey lasted for only three days and I was deported back to Naija. I wanted to go back then to Russia then cos my Visa is still valid but decided against it and went to buy jamb form and got admitted to Unilag studying Educational administration. That was 2008.

My second experience. During NYSC in 2012, I know for sure looking for job at 30 with 2:2 in Naija na die. I decided I am going to try Yankee student visa but money tight die. I did all the leg work myself from finding the school, to writing GRE and going to the embassy. God answered my prayer and the Visa came thru and life has never been the same. I am not a millionaire but I am doing good for myself and my immediate family.

Note: like someone said in an earlier post, traveling is not for everybody and you must have plans when you want to travel. Traveling does not worth risking your life thru desert or jungle cos you will be surprise that a lizard in Nigeria will not turn to crocodile in America

This is consistent with the story of average educated Nigerians who just seek to fulfill their dreams. Some places give you better opportunities to live out your dreams than others. Once you are legal, trained/skilled, hardworking and disciplined, you are more likely to succeed and contribute to society than fail. Welldone!

if you have a job with a room for growth and your earning 300k and above stay in Nigeria and grow but if you are earning less than that and your future looks bleak and theres no room for growth then you can try relocating LEGITIMATELY through PR etc. however you should know once there you are on your own there is no uncle or aunty like in Nigeria that would support you. you have to work tirelessly to be successful through making the right decisions and choices. dont for once think once you leave Nigeria you are made or your problems gone all you did was change move to another continent with its own unique rules and laws and culture which you must abide to you are still going to apply Nigeria's hustling spirit only difference is hard work done LEGITIMATELY pays

The western world is structured towards reducing financial gaps if and where possible. You get value for your taxes/bills. You live comfortably. Europe is beautiful and organized but it is only melt for documented migrants.
If you want to migratet to europe, you should be ready to sacrifice sometime for learning their languag, because most of the developed country in europe are language barrier and they communicate in their local language without any apology.

I remember smiling and excited whenever i read about traveling stories in the travel section, it's motivates me . Anyway I finally left naija over a year, moving to another country is not easy at all , however solid plan for sustainability is the key till the journey becomes smooth. I know many do complain that diasporans always saying it's not easy yet they remain abroad. The gospel truth is many engage in menial jobs which requires physical strength, I swear e no easy but still far better than naija .

We have a President who doesn't care.

The courts, which should be the last hope is now the worst! Massive corruption has killed the judiciary.
The youths are confused. All they do is to argue on social media.
Tribalism and nepotism are the other of the day.

And of course, we have "Village People" that will hate you for no reason.

Nigeria has messed up our minds, we now glorify suffering.

Bottom line: If you are abroad and thinking of coming back, don't bother.

On Tuesday, I drove to Indianapolis from my base. A journey of about 150 miles (about 3 hours one way) and on my way back , I just dey swear for naija government anyhow.

There was NO SINGLE pothole on the road to and fro.

There was nothing like police checkpoint. Infact I didnt see any police vehicle at all.

Nothing like you dey fear armed robber, fulani herdsman or kidnapper.

Na soso bushmeat like antelope and deer wey moto don kill I just dey see beside the highway.

On a doctor's salary of 100k pounds per annum, your disposable income is slightly over one thousand pounds per week after tax , and you have to pay your bills from that.
In Nigeria u can become rich if u use ur brain. Eg sell any product at a profit margin of 5760 to 60000 people , u don become millionaire be that.

U have to ask yourself why the Chinese r coming to Nigeria/Africa.

I regret coming to Europe, thankfully Ive re strategized for Nigeria,and I can tell you it's been positive despite all the screams about Nigeria being a horrible country.

I have seen a lot of Nigerians here in miserable life style. Broke and living in hell. No happiness. No concrete jobs. They cant come back because family n frnds are expecting big money, mansions and cars. Please stay in your country and hussle. If you have scholarships fine , come and study and go back home.

I think we all know the drill by now. There's a special set of rules for America and another one for Europe. If you're moving to Europe without proper papers or have the right connection, na SUFFER be your middle name. In America, you can get away with it if you're lucky, that is you come prepared with a few thousand dollars and you are very friendly and good looking. The koko with America is that you must find someone to marry and get your papers as quickly as possible. This is the end game if you come here on a tourist or student visa.

I was fortunate to have parents who were citizens, many are not. So I can understand the hustle. I've seen people come here and ended up suffering beyond comprehension, 7 years and counting still no papers, still working that odd job with no hope of making it big. I've also seen people encounter what I call divine favor. Within 2 years of entering the USA they got their papers, got a good job and 3 years later got their citizenship. What I'm trying to say here is that not everyone is going to be lucky, so MAKE YOUR OWN LUCK! The more people you know abroad the better, the more dollars you can bring the better, be prepared for ANYTHING!

This thinking is why lots of people are stuck abroad.
If you have not lived abroad then your assumption isn't bankable. There are lots of Nigerians abroad who live from from hand to mouth and have zero savings. Matter of fact some are in debt.
If you never see with your own eyes, you no go understand. Travel and see for yourself and don't jump into conclusion from what you read online or what your relatives abroad told you.
