Don't Resign - Yoruba Elders To Osinbajo by Nigeria2day(m): 6:45am On Nov 09, 2019
…as Presidency confirms sacking of VP’s aides

The Yoruba Council of Elders has advised Vice President Yemi Osinbajo against resigning his position because of the alleged war against him by a cabal in the Presidency.

The Yoruba elders also advised President Muhammadu Buhari to remember Osinbajo’s loyalty to him and refuse to be used by some power against his Vice President.

The Secretary General of the YCE, Dr Kunle Olajide, said this in an interview with Saturday PUNCH in Lagos on Friday.

Olajide said it was obvious that some persons were “seriously” working against the Vice President, saying the 2023 presidential ambition of some of Osinbajo’s persecutors was the reason for doing this.

The YCE scribe said, “We know like other Nigerians that there are enough signs that some people are working against Osinbajo but who the people are, I don’t know.

“It is obvious that some people are working against him and unfortunately, it appears as if Mr President is dancing to their tune.

“I will urge Mr President to remember the Vice President’s loyalty to him in the past four years, especially when he was out of the country for three months and refused to allow unguarded ambition to push him.”

Olajide said the elders’ council did not support the advice given by some people to Osinbajo to resign his position.

“President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo hold the ticket together. Both of them were elected on a joint ticket, so Osinbajo should not resign,” he said.

He urged the Vice President to remain loyal to the President and serve the country “patriotically.”

He said, “Osinbajo should remain god-fearing and people-centred in his activities and in the end, he will be vindicated.

“No matter the motivation of some 2023 presidential aspirants against him, he should remain steadfast in what he is doing in the past four years that are acceptable to Nigerians and to God.”

Meanwhile, the Presidency on Friday admitted that President Muhammadu Buhari ordered the sacking of some aides to Osinbajo.

It came after days of silence from the President’s office and barely 24 hours after the VP’s aide denied that any Osinbajo aide was sacked.

The Presidency stated that the aides were sacked as part of the ongoing overhauling in the seat of government to cut costs.

A State House statement by Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu, which officially confirmed the sacking, denied that the exercise was targeted at Osinbajo or that there existed any rift between Buhari and Osinbajo.

The statement read, “The Presidency wishes to confirm that there is an ongoing unprecedented overhaul of the nation’s seat of government, arising from which a number of political appointments have either been revoked or not renewed in the second term.

“The exercise, which has been ordered by the President, is to streamline decision-making, cut down multiple authorities and reduce the cost of administration.

“It is also an appropriate response to the general perception that the Presidency has an oversized and bloated workforce which acts as a drag on efficiency.”

It added, “As may have been noticed by discerning members of the public, a number of political appointees among the few that served in the office of the President were not returned for the second term.

“The office of the Vice President, His Excellency, Yemi Osinbajo, has, in compliance with the directive of the President, equally been shed of a number of such appointees.

“In carrying out these exercises, the overriding objective is to save taxpayers’ money and deliver the needed service to the public. As far as the President is concerned, there is no scope for an excuse for administration after getting a huge mandate to run the country for four more years.”

Denying that rift existed between Buhari and Osinbajo, the Presidency insisted that their relationship remained cordial.

He said, “In the light of this, the Presidency wishes to strongly deny rumours of a rift between President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo. The relationship between the two leaders remains excellent and trusting. Together, they will script a glorious future for the nation.

“The media reports of a sour relationship are originating from the minds and mouths of mischief-makers, who are desperate for entertaining stories from the Aso Rock Villa with which to titillate the public. This ulterior motive is the basis of the wrong interpretation given to the recent exercise in the Presidency.

Beware of Osinbajo.
It's almost a rule. It eludes those who desperately seek it.Buhari broke the jinx..but not after he had tried, cried and resigned. It must have looked at him with pity. It had dribbled him into
exhaustion. Then it fell on his laps.it started with Tafawa Balewa. Sarduana was the leader. He
passed it on.Aguiyi Ironsi wasnt thinking about it. Then Nzeogwu fell the tree and literally into his hands. Gowon wasnt dreaming it . Those who took it from Aguiyi gave it to him to hold for them.Mohammed and co went for it. Mohammed took it but couldn't hold it. Dimka took down Mohammed and rolled into Obasanjos path. Cowardly Obasanjo cowered. But he was
literally forced to take it.

Shehu Shagari wasnt in the picture. But bags of ego collided and humble Shagari became the truce. Awolowo and Azikiwe stayed on the sidelines and licked their own wounds.
Then the army came again. They didnt trust themselves so they looked for one whose words they could take to the bank.
They gave it to a spartan, Buhari.
Buhari brought Idiagbon in and it became their way or the highway. And they were shoved aside.
After Buhari and his Idiagbon the soldiers feared too much military discipline . They found a politician in army uniform. Babangida , though , seemed to have nursed quiet ambitions
for it for a long time. Vasta tried to take him out and end the sloppiness. He was shoved into a grave.Babangida flirted with ideas. He became president. He wanted to stay forever but Abacha bared his fangs. An imminent vacancy was declared. Shehu Yaradua thought it
was his for the taking. They labelled him a contraband.
Abiola plotted for it . And had one hand on it but Babagida
and company couldnt stand his ego.
Babagida stayed put and planned to stay forever. But Abacha
bared his fangs again.
IBB hurriedly stepped aside and dropped it for Ernest Shonekan.
Ernest Shonekan honestly didn't have the guts.
Poor Shonekan, indignant Abiola people called him a usurper
and denied him legitimacy. And egged Abacha on. Abacha took it supposedly to restore Abiola but Abacha found the apple to sweet to forego.
He told Abiola to let sleeping dogs lie.
Shehu Yaradua who had always dreamt of it was liquidated in Abacha's prison
Abacha planned to stay forever but he ate an Indian apple and he died.
It seemed Abiola could resurrect. But a cardiac arrest came from hell, a few weeks later, and buried all , him and his resurgent hopes
It fell on gentle Abdulsalam. Abdulsalam didn't want to take chances. Abdulsalam dusted a bankrupt Obasanjo and handed
it over to him. Obasanjo tasted it a second time and planned to stay forever.
The National Asembly stopped him. He made some stubborn heads bleed.
Tired , shackled and frustrated, he looked around and handed it to a humble but sick Yaradua. And put gentle Jonathan beside him.
Atiku cried and cried.
Yaradua died. The cabal danced around like a headless chicken . It rolled over to Jonathan.
Jonathan did his best hold on to it. It seemed too big for him.He shrugged off a challenge from Buhari ..and Buhari cried into retirement.
Jonathan struggled. But held onto it. It was too sweet. Fate looked at a Buhari it had turned inside out and brought him to face Jonathan.
Jonathan was roundly defeated. Buhari got it after he all but had given up.
It seems made for the underdogs.
Beware of Osinbajo.

Nigeria2day:
The campaign of calumny by a certain cabal in the presidency against the Vice President’s office is an open secret.

This has prompted some well-meaning Nigerians to call for Professor Yemi Osinbajo’s to resign his Vice President’s position.

But not everyone agrees that Osinbajo should cave to such unwarranted pressure from a certain power block. Some of those are the Yoruba elders.

The elders under the auspices of the Yoruba Council of Elders, YCE advised the Vice President against resigning his position.

In an interview with The Punch, the Secretary-General of the YCE, Dr Kunle Olajide said it was obvious that some persons were “seriously” working against the Vice President, saying the 2023 presidential ambition of some of Osinbajo’s persecutors was the reason for doing this.

The Yoruba elders also advised President Muhammadu Buhari to remember Osinbajo’s loyalty to him and refuse to be used by some power against his Vice President.

“We know like other Nigerians that there are enough signs that some people are working against Osinbajo but who the people are, I don’t know.

“It is obvious that some people are working against him and unfortunately, it appears as if Mr President is dancing to their tune.

“I will urge Mr President to remember the Vice President’s loyalty to him in the past four years, especially when he was out of the country for three months and refused to allow unguarded ambition to push him,” the YCE scribe said.

According to Olajide, the elders’ council did not support the advice given by some people to Osinbajo to resign his position.

“President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo hold the ticket together. Both of them were elected on a joint ticket, so Osinbajo should not resign,” he said.

Resigning wil not be a good idea. The VP has been a blessing to Nigerians and we know it, no matter how active, hardworking, diligent and loyal he is, he can't still satisfy everybody. But, attempts to pull him down will not work because he has the Almighty to lean on.

Osinbajo is not under tension neither is he subjected to any threat therefore, it is a dream that will never come to fulfillment is for anyone to be waiting for him to resign. Inasmuch Buhari is not resigning from being the president of this country, nothing is going to make Osinbajo to vacate his position as VP as well. Both of them were elected together and they are going to finish the term together whether the so called cabal likes it or not

He has been a blessing to yorubaland.
We saw the list of his aides. That clearly says the vp only recommend and employ only Yorubas.

To him other tribes are Irrelevant. Buhari is busy fixing his people and Osibanjo is also busy fixing his people.

You spoilt this when you made it an osunbande affair.

Does this guy have any political clout aside the one given him by Tinubu?

Have you seen any element of building his own political structure since he became VP?

Have you forgotten Tinubu gave up his ambition for him to become VP?

So are you saying come 2023, Tinubu should shelve his ambition once again if APC zones presidency to the SW for osunbande to become president?

Osunbande should not have been in this conversation at all. He is just a puppet sent by Tinubu to rep him at the Villa.

I am not one of those who think there's a rift between him and his mentor.
