Ejiod:Hello sir, I am an ardent follower of your thread and truly, you interest me. But there are a couple of questions that I would love you to answer pertaining to your field data science. 1. How many months did it take you to have a basic knowledge of python data science? 2. What modules are you using for your data analysis? Pandas and what? 3. How did you get your first job as a data scientist? 4. Do you think that Nigeria is harnessing the knowledge of data science properly? 5. What connection does data science has with machine learning? 6. Also what advise do you have for a python developer who might in future venture into data science? 7. Which do you think is gaining more traction now? Python Web development or python data science? I am looking forward to an in depth explanation of the above questions. Thanks for your input. 20 Likes 3 Shares |

iCode2:Thanks for calling me here, my man. I'm now more motivated to look into this data science field. E be like say money plenty for there Off to Google to do more research. EDIT: I'll do web dev first, to makes some bucks off of freelancing, then I'll do data science on the side, mainly to get a remote job or even for contract freelancing. I don't really like working for people, except maybe international firms I feel like I have a clearer picture of what I wanna do, every time I chat with you lol. What are your plans? 14 Likes 1 Share |

Grandlord:Data science we speak libraries not framework(As in web development with django ur flask)... For data science there are many libraries. Mostly I use pandas, researchpy, plotly, scipy and statsmodel. For predictive. That's much 16 Likes 1 Share |

Hello sir, I'm an R user. I currently have a number projects I worked on from statistical analysis, NLP to machine learning. Perhaps you have connects looking for interns or junior data analyst. It would help a number of us a lot. I will be a graduate by Gods grace in 2days, I would have dropped the link to my github page, but I currently need to fix a thing or two. Thanks. 9 Likes |

On thing about data science and analytics is that once you are there, you develop huge interest. Everything you be thinking will be data and how to make meaning of it. Fast forward.. I applied to different firms just to see and nearly all scheduled for an interview . Had one offer... physical presence job. 150k and I'm like commuting to island daily for that amount.... damn I had to drop it. They were like they will increase it. I'm like biko let me maintain my lane on my remote stuff. My baseline expectations was 250k or more. The main idea was merging physical and remote so I get more than 450k or more.. Snapnet called me for test. Damn it..that was my horrible experience. Passed the first stage of interview.the manager was impressed. We were only 5 dudes for this test. The test came with Practical and theory. As a sharp guy, I have all machine learning codes to run any damn data set for any predictions. Even packaged my XGBOOST in case other predictions are low. Did all the practical and boom it came to theory. This was where I had issues. Then I knew I messed up. That was the first time I was given a theory test throughout my interviews. Had to snap it from my head and move on. Obviously I knew I won't be called. Fast forward... I then got an offer from upwork. Damn the work was sweet. Web scrapping. Did that for 4 month. Beautifulsoup and scrapy was helpful then. It was while on upwork I got an offer as a data analyst through ng.ineed.com .... That app is quite helpful than LinkedIn. The salary is quite big .............. Will update how I got that offer and how I also became a software tester too 56 Likes 9 Shares |

DAY TO DAY ACTIVITIES: 1. Run dashboards based on different metrics. 2.Two powerful tools I make use of everyday is TABLEAU and POWER BI... This type you connect to DB not excel or regular csv. 3.Query database with advanced sql queries and spool out results. 4.Weekly report from dashboards 5.Run Interactive dashboard with plotly.. I only run ML or DL if needs arises. 6. Develope XLSForm for ODK. 7.Web scrapping. 8.Data driven test on applications 56 Likes 13 Shares |

I'm happy reading about bosses' narratives here. Really inspiring. Well, I started learning python last month and due to my experience with C++, I was able to learn with the speed of light Lol. So far I've mastered Numpy,Pandas, Matplotlib and a bit of Scipy, StatsModel and seaborn. I handled a mini project last week (a 'pseudo analysis' though, if there's anything like that) where I needed to read an excel file, make some analysis and visualize the results. It was really interesting working with the project. I'm currently delving into inferential statistics and I'll move on to machine learning later. I'll be glad if bosses here can guide me into a more distinctive path because I learn everything myself. Python is indeed powerful 35 Likes 2 Shares |

Been stressful this week.. Running dashboards and felt like my head blowing off. So tasking especially when all departments depend on you for data. On a typical day, I run sql queries to pull data for different dept. Once done I get to run my analysis. Learnt something this week on Tableau on building word cloud. Been doing that with python but with Tableau it's just drag and drop. In Tableau or powerBI you need to be grounded on data before you drag any field. When I mean grounded, you just have to understand the deep basics of data.Once you become advance then you start writing DAX functions. The word cloud was for customers feedback from the product. On how I got my third offer. It was through ng.indeed.com. Role for BI developer. We were just 3 scheduled for the interview. We were given company's data to analyze.I did that as normal with my python scripting . Scatter the SQL queries and an data quality project. We both came in to defend our analysis. I was the only dude using Python to do magic. Had to go deep on the analysis even using machine learning to predict. Gave suggestions and during the interview the I had to demonstrate and explain all analysis. It was great though. Boom the following week I was called saying I should come for negotiations. Naso I go oooo. They were eager to see me,commending my analysis. Told them 350k and they were like that's so high. A week latter they ask for an amount close to that and I'm like I will think about it and give them a call. RULE1: In an interview never be eager when a firm offers you any amount. Told them of the least I can take and they said they will call me on that. Finally they agreed. 68 Likes 13 Shares |
