Good Morning, Guys.
Another silent observer but my visa was approved this morning and I want to give back as I received a lot from this thread.

After the Biometrics , I was directed to a white middle aged lady, that she handles F1 visa applicants.

V.O Good morning
Me: Good morning, maam
VO : why are you going to virginia tech?
Me : I am going there for my masters degree because they are ranked as one of the top 100 universities in the world by world report and usnews and
VO : cuts in...Yes yes I know all the statistics. what do you do ?
Me : I am a mechanical engineer with bleep organization
VO: whats your present level
Me : told her
VO : did you write the GRE?
Me: Yes I did
VO : what did you score?
Me : told her
VO: I see you got an assistantship, how did you get this?
Me : I wrote to the professors whose interests aligns with mine and those that were interested wrote back, then we had a skype interview and I got the offer
VO types for a while then : are you married?
Me : No
starts typing again then I interrupt
Me : I do have study permit from my organization ( holds it up to show her)
VO waves it away : I have made up my mind, go to this window and pay the reciprocity fee and dont arrive after school starts or you might be turned back
Me : ok, thank you maam
VO : one last question, if you couldnt cope and lose your assistanship what would you do?
Me : return home since I cant afford to stay there
VO : Right answer. You come back
Me: Thank you maam

Hello Everyone,

Do MBA students get grants or scholarships? I'm asking because most of the tuition fees my bro saw online range between 30 to 40k USD.

As a current MBA student, I can answer this to the best of my knowledge.

In general, STEM get more grants in the USA more than MBA and other fields because stem is more in demand according to news and rumours.

However, MBA grants varies accross schools.
For tier 1 universities, you are likely to get 100% scholarships if you have good grades. Schools like havard, MIT, Chicago booth and Co, they will ensure you are secured interms of scholarship, fellowship awards, graduate assistance, and even student loans because they know the costs are expensive and they will want you to be focused.

For tier 2 universities, which I belong to one, you can hardly get a 100% full ride for MBA. the highest you can always get is tuition free while you sort out your living expense on your own. But to get this, you must have a very strong cgpa and GRE/Gmat scores. Reason is because you are competing with several others from India, China, and other part of the world for the little available funding.

For tie 3 universities.
It doesn't worth the MBA my brother. Just like in Nigeria labour market, you either belong to first class applicant or 2.1 applicants. 2.2 and the rest are less important.
Same as tier 3 universities. You will struggle to get good jobs and they mostly don't have strong alumni bodies for job referral. As a foreigner with no legal work permit, you will struggle after graduation.
As for their grants, they mostly use lollipop method.
School fee can be $30k and they give you just $5k funding.

US Visa Interview Denied.

Heres's my transcript.... Please advise.

WHY ARE YOU GOING TO US?
For a masters degree in accounting at mtsu

Have you paid your sevis fee?
Yes

What would this degree do for you?
It would enable me achieve my long-term goals. Which is to… [cuts me off}

What are your long-term goals?
To establish my own accounting and consulting firm here in Nigeria as I would gain knowledge of US Accounting standards, tax laws and systems which will give me a competitive edge over my peers here in Nigeria.

Why mtsu?
Beside the fact that I was given scholarship, mtsu has robust curriculum as I am to take some prerequisite courses on US accounting principles, auditing & tax laws also they have cpa courses embedded in their program. This aligns with my desire to take the cpa exams upon the completion of my masters as cpa requires that you have a certain credit hour before you can take the exam.

Who is going to pay for the deficit?
My aunt [ I forgot to mention myself also]

What does your aunt do?
She a business partner to several telecom companies in Nigeria.+

How is she related to you?
She’s my uncle’s wife sister

He also asked why I was given the scholarship.... My response was that because of the my undergrad GPA which is 3.87 of 4
He also asked if I was married
His last question was if I had traveled out of the country before and I said no

Please which window did u have this interview, I need to know the window, I have been interviewed twice but I've been denied. Many people complained about the black American woman at window 8

Irony of the thing is this.

1. You cannot choose your own window. The CGI guys will be the one to direct you and you cannot reject the direction except the V. O. Had intervied you before for the same category.

2. No V.O has a permanent window. The person in window 3 today might be in window 5 next week

I'm suspecting the bolded. I may be wrong.
Those V.Os don't always want to hear a long extension. They are more comfortable with parents and blood siblings

Plus, you have a very good grade. If I may ask, how much is the deficit?

Good evening guys,
I would like to ask a question. If your sponsor has had constant money flow in their account (salary account) and huge sums of money are deposited in it a month or a couple weeks to one's visa interview would it be a red flag? Do they expect the sponsorship money to have been saved up for for a while?; Is it required that the sponsorship money be in the account for a long while? And is it acceptable for money to be taken out of the account as long as it doesn't interfere with the sponsorship money? sorry, I have a lot of questions

Please @Lagosismyhome, the American, Walspring, Shwarma, fairheart and other Gurus in the House. It's about my proposed transcript. Please assist me in scrutinizing it. My interview is in 3 days time

I was denied 3 months ago, and I'm going for my Bachelor's degree in Biomedical science. Actually I switched my Major from Computer Science to Biomedical science after the Interview. Please I need assistance most especially in Why the switch?

Tuition and fees: 28,000 dollars
Scholarship: 8,000 dollars.
Deficit: 20,000.

MY PROPOSED TRANSCRIPT

Why going to the US?
I'm going to US for my Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Science

What has changed?
I'm more Confident now to demonstrate that I'm a Credible Student , which I wasn't able to do in my previous application.

Why US
Us has an impeccable education system with it's syllabus offering a right blend of both theoretical and practical Knowledge more than any other Country, and also as an academic experience in US is highly valued here in Nigeria, it will help me to establish myself upon my return.

Why this School?
The Biomedical science curriculum in this School is structured with A Faculty Mentored Undergraduate Research interests that most interests me and can be applicable to the current situation of my State. A research interest by Dr Sumali Pandey on Elucidiating the mechanisms by which pathogens invade and proliferate in the Host Cells or tissues using molecular techniques, and the Impact of Environmental toxins like the Endocrine disruptors on the immune system. With This experience I'll acquire the research skills and the Knowledge of the Pathogenesis of the health issue in my State..
And lastly the opportunity to learn anatomy with cadaver dissection in the undergraduate level. In which they're one of the very few undergraduate institutions to learn anatomy using cadaver dissection. Having an experience with this is an added advantage to me since it's meant to be practiced in a Medical school.

What will this Course do 4 U?
Studying this Course will equip with the Knowledge and research of the Pathogenesis Of the Prevalent Health issues in my State, Especially the Gastroenteritis.
Also there's an increasing demand and need for Professionals in this Field in my State as a result of the health issues, So acquiring the recent Methodologies and Research Skills from this course in US will make me Valuable and Qualified for a position in the State Ministry of Health and So Contribute in researching solutions For the Good Health of our Citizens.

How did you hear about this school?.
I conducted a search on affordable best colleges in US, in which I got a result in Usnews.com, and then went into the School Website to read about the Curriculum offered.

How Many did you apply?
3 –>Concord University West Virginia, Minnesota State University Moorhead, and University of Central Arkansas. Was admitted by 2.

Tell me about your Study Plan.
A completion of 120 credit unit hours is required for this Course. I'll be taking these Courses during the period. Human Anatomy, Molecular biology, immunobiology, Genetics, Microbiology and Human Physiology.

Why the change of Course?
During the times in my mum's pharmacy, I acquired some experience in medications and not too long ago I found out that a mere prescription of drugs doesn't have a cure on some of the prevalent Health issues in my State especially the Gastroenteritis because they're mostly Virally infected which requires a special Medical attention and novel treatments options to sustain Life, and just 4 months ago my Cousin became a Victim of this health issue. Studying this Course will equip me with the Knowledge and research of the Pathogenesis of these health issues.
Also there's an increasing demand and need for Professionals in this Field as a result of the Health Issues so acquiring the recent Methodologies and Research Skills from this Course in Us will make me Valuable and Qualified for a position in the State Ministry of Health and thus contribute in researching solutions to the health issues.

Why MTSU with this GPA?
Why not write GMAT and apply to a better school and then reapply for the visa? This should take out of the sponsor's burden.

Thank you Nairaland Family for inspiring me greatly with your knowledge and experiences. I am a silent reader and I studied this thread like a bible with a jotter and pen from Part 13. I enjoyed both the life transforming knowledge and all the quarrels and arguments cheesy

Visa Approved on the 24th Oct and Passport collected 28th Oct 2019

Graduated with a degree in Microbiology, 2015
Refused study visa 3 times in Canada and the last refusal was March 2019.
This was my first application to the US, University of New Haven. Masters in chemistry for winter 2020
No Gre
No TOEFL
No IELTS
Sponsor: Uncle with different surname
Interview time: 6:45am. Lagos,

I got to the embassy around 5:25am, I saw lot of people already, some even dressed like they just woke up from sleep and some looked like they were just going to greet the VO who is their relative hahahahaha, NOTE: please you must dress well and look smart, imagine you are going for an interview in a bank, how will you dress? not necessarily suit which looks too formal and common. I wore a well starched collarless coffee brown long-sleeves tucked in my light brown chinos trouser with a suede brown shoe. Please don't cut your hair a day to interview, do it like 3 days to, the looks is different. I even did facial massage, use cucumber to remove eye bags and i will drinking lots of water to have white eyes and hydrated skin. grin grin I prepared all round sha. I went in well equiped.

After I did all the bio metrics stuff, I finally entered the interview hall, I was consciously looking for the black american ladies people talked about here but I didnt see them. All VOs were white male. I was interviewed by a young VO in window 1, the window by the entrance door and he approved 4 persons before me but questioned them alot.

VO: Good morning
Me: Hi Good morning, good to see you wink (cheerfully)
VO; Good to see you too ( with a surprise look)
VO; passport and i20
Me: sure (gave him). He typed for few mins
VO: Where are you going to
me: I am going for a research masters degree in chemistry with conc. in drug discovery chemistry at the UNH, Connecticut.
VO: why this schoool
Me: A lot of reasons made me choose UNH but for the purpose of this interview I’ll enumerate just 4;
Firstly, I am very keen and interested in research; and I have a passion for cancer treatment, the chemistry department is currently conducting a research in collaboration with Yale University Scientist and cancer center. This research is focused on laboratory synthesis of natural product and their analogues, polyoxygenated and heterocyclic compounds for the design of drug molecules like antibacterial and anticancer chemotherapeutic agent. The motivation is to discover and develop new approaches, new vaccines and new drug delivery systems and integrating them with experiment into chemical materials like green catalyst and cancer drug to improve survival rate of adult diagnosed with leukemia. (cut in)

VO: How many university did you apply to
ME: Western Illinois University, Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, Tennessee Technological University, Cookeville, Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada.

VO: who is you sponsor
ME: my uncle
VO: what does he do
ME: He is a renowned financial economist and the chief financial officer and partner of the bleep and treasurer of the bleep bleep.
VO: do you have your reciprocacy fee here?
VO: yes i do
the rest was history grin

I noticed the VO kept reading my D120 form in his system, NOTE: what you fill in your D120 form is very important and it determines your approval or refusal already, the interview seems to, just come and confirm perhaps with evidence what is on your D120 form. Please fill your form online yourself like i did and screen shot or write important information like dates and figures on a paper so you wont forget after you had submitted your form.

Mehn I fasted and prayed oh, even took 14 days to my interview off work. Miracles are real, if not for anything it boosted my confidence and i was alert. I knew who ever will interview me will approve me.
Dont talk too fast or too slow, demonstrate with your hands and use a passionate expression on your face like I did for study of cancer, because its killing our people everyday wink angry sad

Prepare your transcript and act it like home video. I felt like an actor rehearsing for a shot.

God is the ultimate joor, nobody can tell me otherwise. Its my experience.

REMEMBER: Pray it into existence and work it into existence. God bless you all.

Me: A lot of reasons made me choose UNH but for the purpose of this interview I’ll enumerate just 4;
Firstly, I am very keen and interested in research; and I have a passion for cancer treatment, the chemistry department is currently conducting a research in collaboration with Yale University Scientist and cancer center.

Hello guys, I need your inputs here. I will like to attend a winter school next January on Peace and Conflict Resolution at Doha, Qatar. It's important for my educational development as I will be going for a PhD studies in US next fall and I will be going for f1 Visa interview by May 2020.
Am afraid going to Qatar won't affect my US Visa interview as the Visa officer like questioning applicant who have been to the Middle East. Do I shelf the plan or go?

Heygood:
Good evening guys,
I would like to ask a question. If your sponsor has had constant money flow in their account (salary account) and huge sums of money are deposited in it a month or a couple weeks to one's visa interview would it be a red flag? Do they expect the sponsorship money to have been saved up for for a while?; Is it required that the sponsorship money be in the account for a long while? And is it acceptable for money to be taken out of the account as long as it doesn't interfere with the sponsorship money? sorry, I have a lot of questions
Someone should please help me out

The acct should be busy with inflow and outflow.
A huge lump close to your interview is not good..
But you may be lucky that a VO doesn't see it.

Hello everyone I'm new here. Please I want to ask is the standardized test important to get a US student Visa ? this is because the university that offered me admission gave me standardized test waivers alongside this, my alma mater gave me an English proficiency letter to tender on request.

Yes it is for schools who asks for it, since your school didn't ask then you're good to go. The tests just have it's own Devine way of making you serious before the VO.

There's no need for this. Every transcript gained on this platform is more knowledge for aspiring applicants.

In his writeup, he made a lot of valid points, including dressing and the interview being, by extension, a verification of DS-160 information.

As someone whose interview is coming up, I know how nerve-wracking the wait and preparation can be.

Too many are denied, so being one of the few that are approved is definitely cause for celebration.
