charlesemeka85:Spain and Mali are not on the same pedestal in world football. If Spain wants him, they want him. I think it's quite a stretch to think that they want him because they want to deny Mali the opportunity of having him play for them. |

Your take is a sentimental one because you are thinking of those who don’t have privileges but mine is lookin at the reality of our world today and thinking of the greatest heights we can possibly reach. . Nothing stops us from making our league better and also opening competition to all. I think that’s the real solution. Our crude methods in the past will not give us a competitive edge today. People are saying let’s do things as we did in the past. However, other nations who even did it better then have embraced the reality of globalization today, and are competing at a whole different level now. Which way Nigeria? Joebie: You people keep talking about us measuring up with great nations of football who have gotten it right for ages. News flash: It is not happening in the next few years. Our league is not developing to the standard of churning out quality young talents to compete with the current crop of players. Our quickest solution to start is to begin preparation in the next few months by appointing a high quality tactician (Amunike is my preferred choice). Then start a wide comprehensive screening to cover as much areas of the country as possible. Train them in brilliant tactical play and start competing for laurels. This does not stop us for fighting to develop our league to a high standard including aiming to have high grade pitches to promote possessive play. Until then, we must maintain and improve what we have, while giving room to our foreign borns to add to the pool in later stages, not kill chances of bright talents in their infancy. |

jihday: Not really. Tammy would have been more professionally trained and most likely the preferred hit an due to his ease to assimilate the tactics of the coaching crew. Unlike Osimhen who needed to be trained to understand the basics and nurtured into the force he became. Bringing in Tammy would have cut the hard work used for the development of the grassroot player, Osimhen. This is why we must not throw the work needed to build our pool for easy wins of calling foreign based players for the u17. |

safarigirl:I say even if we find talents in the league as you posit it would still not suffice. See football has changed so much that - let me exaggerate just to make a point--even many great players of the past, if they are to return young and fresh will not survive the game. Football has gone beyond talents. It's now tactical and scientific. So these three things - talents, tactics and the science- must combine in the revival of our local before we can source players from the home front. Regrettably we are still stuck in the past, what is worst is that even the talent pool in the local league seems to have dried out The only category of players that I think can stake a claim for us in the world comity of footballing nations are those who leave here for Europe early on and foreign born Nigerian players. Let me end by saying that Europe has cheated the rest of the world by forcing them all to play football according to the European model of efficiency and results. Even Brazil which played samba is evolving into the European mould. All the major leagues are in Europe and I feel they will continue to dictate how football is played. personally I enjoy the talent over tactics kind of football but today tactics is 70% of football, that's why it's called the era of the coaches 3 Likes 1 Share |

Joebie:I think there's common sense in what the goodjoe said. I even think that to the u17- down to the u20 should be left exclusively for Nigerian home grown talents except foreign born players who are exceptional at that age (those who are in the field will be able to spot an exceptional player when one pops up) At the stage of the 17-20 age grade, the stake in footballing terms is not too high. We can safely keep it for our local boys without too great a loss. |

charlesemeka85:The u17 boys we took had the talent but the science, the tactics let them down. Some will say Manu has won this tournament before na but his inability to repeat that feat shows that he must have let down on the tactical side of things. Football don change bro. There's this quote by Jurgen klopp that I have posted here before which encapsulates the current trend in football. |

Lol... You don't have to agree. Truth is.. Icon4s is the one masterminding this. He was the one who brought out the plaques for the last one, contacted a few media houses to give it more publicity and sent it to the NFF I think. I say it is only logical he has an automatic slot. That is what I would have suggested if given the chance before the "nominations began" and if I had known not all would vote him because of monickers like Tbaba or Me. You may not like it but this is fair. somehow: 3 Likes |
