My friend, so I'm not alone.

Everyone in my area think I am a Yahoo boy simply because I don't go out to work and yet I run the generator every day.

Man, you need to see how people stares at me each time I pass by. The stigma is enough for someone to want to quit and look for another job. But in a country like Nigeria where Jobs are scarce like gold, one have to make do with the stigma and loneliness that comes with freelancing. I think that is the price we have to pay for being economically independent.

I have learned to manage the loneliness by going out to play scrabble when I feel tired.
I have never seen a more frustrating country than Nigeria. It still baffles me how freelancers are humiliated by EFCC. For God's sake, Freelancers ought to be celebrated in any sane society. People that export their skills to earn forex for the country, fly it's flag before the global community which earns the country respect yet they end up being stigmatized by both the authorities as well as the ignorant public. Well, you really need to get a physical business you can be attending to alongside your freelancing work. Luckily for me, I was already in business before I joined freelancing. I leave home as early as 7am (that may be very late for our dear Lagosians but i'm in Owerri), get to my outlet in less than 15 minutes and withdraw to my freelancing work while my employee would be attending to customers. Even at that people still insinuate that I'm into yahoo just because I drive a flashy car and carry laptop bag in my back seat.
Try and establish a business bro, though it might be difficult for people living in Lagos considering that you might end up losing precious man hours on traffic.
On my own, I try to educate people a lot that not everyone that works with a laptop 24/7 is a yahoo guy. We really need to keep enlightening the public until it sinks in.

Lol me too oh.

For me I don't care what people say about me. Even if EFCC enter my room, they will never find any evidence of online scam, rather I will even teach the EFCC staff how to make legitimate money online.

Sometimes I stay indoor for 4 or 5 days hustling inside my room online. Many people think I am into Yahoo yahoo, but that is their business.

My neighbours get up to work around 5am, but for me that's when I am enjoying my sleep after working all night on my laptop.

Nigerians should know that freelancing is the future. What some freelancers earn in a week is even 3x the salary of many government directors and bank MDs.

Do you know that one 17 years only boy in America earned over $1.8m in one month online?

Hi,

I am not a pro. However, I will explain how my Payoneer account works.

From my knowledge of the cross-border payment solution, you need to have their prepaid MasterCard before you move funds. Perhaps the system has changed, but I opened my account in 2016, so that's how it works.

Payoneer funds don't just exist in a vague ecosystem; they are loaded on prepaid cards. This means that you must have a card before you are able to do transfer and withdraw to banks. Again, this is a personal experience.

If your account doesn't have a card yet, you may place an order for a card. In a few days, they will send you a notification, informing you that your card is ready. I didn't pay a dime to have my first Payoneer card delivered on my doorstep in 2016.

But when I requested for a replacement, I had to pay $13 or so to have it shipped through Nipost. I won't advise anyone to follow that process because it's crazy.

There's an alternative, where you will use DHL and pay $40. While the former takes roughly 15 days or more, the latter happens in less than 7 days.

Finally, I wish to confirm you that First Bank didn't charge me a DIME when I performed the first Payoneer-Nigerian-savings-account withdrawal. And I will do another transaction by Monday. Hopefully, I will share with you how it went.

I wish to appeal to some of us here who have been into freelancing for a while to voluntarily share crucial information with other members.

The fact of the matter is, most of us are new to this space. To add insult to injury, we don't see one another physically. So, don't withhold any information that may help us in this group.

I hope this helps....

Again, I am not an expert....

Everything I have shared here is a personal experience.

Thank you

Wow, thanks for this, really appreciate.

Got my funds credited to my payoneer account after 2 business days (Saturday -Tuesday).

I withdraw to my Dom account without a card and got it within 48 hours.

In all, that's about 4 business days, direct from upwork to my Dom takes 48 hours but more charges.

Maybe this will help someone - It cost me a total of $17 to withdraw to my USD Dom account.

Upwork direct to my Dom account is $30.

So, I saved $13, good deal!

Upwork to naira account is @ N332/$, not fair enough if you are withdrawing large sum.

To those who use exchangers, I never used them, think about using payoneer, you can withdraw to naira account. Saves you from risking your hard earned funds to untrusted exchangers.

I always hate to read how freelancers are scammed.

Thank you SoNature.

@bolded is the same thing you said to me when i corrected u on the thread u opened for this same case.

My brother, u need to be humble. The article is not something to brag about. Like i wrote on that thread, i have lost some amount for jobs that are better than that one but i knew i had to improve.

The guy is not right for not paying but you should understand that you need to improve. Not many employers can edit for you cos of time.

Just be humble biiko. He is winning the argument with the way you respond to criticisms. Every good writer loves criticism but the way u dey do sha. . .na ur way ooo

I use transitions well for coherence
I know ES EE OH
I meet deadlines
I take 1.5/word. . .its cheap but i am improving. However, i get discount for consistent jobs
I use free grammarly. . .i still dey collect 1.5/word remember

I will like to add little to this drama between Olawrites and the guy.

While Olawrites was complaining about the guy, I was already writing for him under the Monica, Flambo02. I have done the first draft already and a revision.

Note:
I've not yet reached a conclusion on whether he is scammer, but his attitude looks suspicious.

Hi!
Are you available for some writing gig? Kindly let me have your contact if you're. Thanks

First, he asked me to write 5 articles of 800 words each, but with minimal instructions. I told him immediately that the requirements are too minimal. Just the a keyword for each post. I asked if I should create any topic based on the keywords provided. He responded in the affirmative.

A day or 2 after submitting the 5 articles, he sent me a screenshot supposedly coming from the client stating that the articles are generally okay, but i should try to incorporate some 3 new keywords (he just provided) to make the content more engaging. He also asked that I should also add some examples of the subject matter. Of course, these are normal requests. So, I got back to work to fix the content.

I did as request and submitted the revised version. It was after submitting the editted version i saw Olawrites post on NL. Immediately, compared the phone number. I discovered I'm writing for the same person under a different Monica. I quickly ran to WhatsApp, then I saw my guy updating his status saying he is about changing his phone number. I sent him a message immediately asking why is he changing his phone number, that he should leave the new one in case so we can communicate. He agreed

Then, 2 days later (today) my guy came up with another another screenshot from the client. This time, he was making a list of complains about: how the texts were tool long for his kinds of fans, and how the content are not engaging enough. He also introduced another keyword.

Immediately I saw that, I just add 2+2. I've entered one-chance.

You don't need multiple Monicas as a professional writer who wants to engage other writers.

I told him I can't be going back and forth on such a simple project. I don't work for writers on NL anymore. It's because i need money urgently for the salah festival that made me to fall into his trap.

For me, I don't feel pained. I know the risk is always there when you write for someone without the protection of escrow.

I don't know why Olawrites doesn't want to upload the controversial content. But, if he decides to do the same with me, I will upload the original content and our WhatsApp conversations, including his strange whatsapp DP.

I don't want to call him a scammer yet because some buyers can be irrational at times.

But when too many people are complaining same thing about you, I think something is wrong about you.

Flambo02 (or whatever other monica you use) try amend your ways, you can't win forever on a wrong path.

That's my 10kobo.
