Nigeria is on steroid, Roads,Rails,AIRPORTS, SEA PORTS ,Factories,Industrie,Stadiums,Agro industries Kano-Maiduguri highway dualization Sections affected by the dispensation include Section Two: Dutse-Kwanar Huguma in Kano State (142 kilometres); Section Three: Azare-Potiskum in Yobe State (106.341 kilometres); Section Four projects: Damaturu to Maiduguri (145.109 kilometres); while Section Five corridors are along the Potiskum – Damaturu axis with 102.075 kilometres. The projects are being executed by a consortium of contractors comprising the Chinese firm CCECC Nigeria Limited, Mothercat Nigeria Ltd, Setraco Nigeria Ltd and CGC Nigeria Ltd, each of which is working on designated sections and have attained significant levels of progress. Among the factors credited for the success of the project was the Sukuk Bond, which was recently introduced in Nigeria as an alternative funding option for addressing the country’s infrastructure deficit estimated at over $13 trillion. Sukuk is an Islamic funding option for projects of any kind, as long as such do not violate the tenets of Sharia. It became imperative for the Nigerian government to adopt, following the need to bridge the massive infrastructure gap, in the light of dwindling oil revenues in recent times. With the endorsement of the scheme by Mohamed Rufai with reference to the Kano Maiduguri Road, the Sukuk scheme could not have enjoyed better commendation. 3 Likes

INDUSTRIALIZATION AGENDA:1D1F; IN LINE WITH GOVERNMENT’S INDUSTRIALIZATION AGENDA, A COCOA PROCESSING FACTORY HAS BEEN INAUGURATED SPINTEX ROAD ACCRA. Minister for Trade and Industry, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen has inaugurated a $30 million cocoa processing factory at the Spintex Road in Accra. The factory, which is expected to process 15,000 tonnes of cocoa beans annually, is one of the projects earmarked under the government flagship programme, “One-District, One Factory”. The Afrotropic Processing Company Limited (ACPL) will produce quality products that could be used for chocolate, cocoa powder, cocoa liquor and cocoa butter. It is also expected to add up to the number of cocoa tonnes processed locally, which stood at 300,000 tonnes last year. Speaking at the event, Mr. Kyerematen said the inauguration is part of government’s plan to to ensure that 50 percent of raw materials are processed locally. He noted that, government is focused on the implementation of key economic reform programmes and policies to ensure that local industries were built to withstand the dynamic nature and volatilities of the global business environment. The Trade Minister was enthused about the recapitalisation of Afrotropic because of the fact that cocoa which continue to be the backbone of the economy had less than 400,000 tonnes of the raw beans being processed for value addition in the country. He was very happy the factory would create employment of more than 350 direct and indirect jobs for the people across the country. ""As part of efforts to attract foreign direct investments, Alan Kyerematen revealed that, “government worked hard to reduce the debt stock to the GDP ratio from 73 per cent to 57 per cent between 2017 and 2019.” Alan Kyerematen asked the cocoa processing factory to take advantage of the free export markets Ghana enjoyed with both America and Europe while making preparation to also take advantage of the upcoming Africa Single Market under the Continental Free Trade Zone, an African initiative for free trade in the middle of the year. 2 Likes 1 Share

Google embarks on African investment safari Global technology giant Google is pumping major investments into Africa, with its most noteworthy new ventures being the rollout of free public wifi hotspots and a new high-speed undersea cable to boost internet connectivity and affordability. South Africa and Nigeria – the continent’s two biggest economies – are getting a significant share of the investment. Nigeria became the first country in Africa in February to see the rollout of Google Station – Google’s ground-breaking initiative in developing nations aimed at providing fast, free and open wifi to disadvantaged communities. Now, Google Station has been launched in the Cape Flats area and other townships in Cape Town such as Langa, Khayelitsha and Gugulethu, with some 125 free public wifi hotspots in these locations. The project was officially announced at the first-ever Google for South Africa event in Johannesburg on Thursday. Several other announcements and updates around Google’s innovations and investments in the education, consumer, technology start-up and internet infrastructure spaces were highlighted. Speaking at the event Nitin Gajria, Google’s Africa director, said he was “tremendously excited” about bringing the Google Station innovation to South Africa. He said the concept had been first piloted by Google in India in 2015 and is now in operation in several other developing countries such as Brazil and Mexico. “Google Station has been hugely successful in India and earlier this year Nigeria saw the concept’s first rollout in Africa. We’ve quietly been piloting the programme in Cape Town’s most underserved communities for a couple of months and now we officially reveal this project to South Africa,” noted Gajria. “By gaining access to information via the internet, we hope that people in these communities will get a more equal opportunity to learn and develop and live more empowered lives. Google Station is now available in over 100 locations across Langa, Khayelitsha, Gugulethu, Delft, Elsies River, Philippi and more in the Cape Flats. Besides being underserved, these areas have high unemployment and crime rates,” he adds. Questioned by Moneyweb on where the next Google Station location would be in SA and how much Google has invested in the project, Gajria was reluctant to comment. “For us, this is an investment in the future of South Africa and the continent. We have numerous projects and partnerships across several countries in Africa and around the world,” he said. https://www.moneyweb.co.za/news/sout...stment-safari/ __________________ 3 Likes
