franchasng: Wow. Actually ''black skin'' is caused by the chemical known as melanin, which serves to protect humans from the rays of the sun in tropical regions. Your ''black'' skin is a blessing from the Almighty, without which you would wither and die in the sun. If you doubt me, check all the black dominated countries and cities, no matter how rich in natural resources they are, they never advance economically, technologically or scientifically.....from Nigeria to Gabon to Equotorial Guinea, to Ghana, to, to Ivory Coast to Mali, to Kenya to Ethiopia, to Liberia, to Cameroon, to just name it But NIgeria has ''advanced economically, technologically or scientifically'', since independence in 1960. Our GDP is now the highest in Africa. At independence we weren't even on the radar. Technologically, we have advanced since independence. We manufacture a lot of things in this country, including vehicles (Innoson, Proforce, Anammco etc) and computers (Zinox etc). Sure we need to expand, but we have progressed. Infrastructure has improved significantly since independence. In 1960 we had no expressways or flyovers or even a national power grid. No power stations existed in Nigeria until 1964 when Kainji Dam was commissioned by the Balewa govt. ....the only thing that saved South Africa is the white people from Netherlands that helped to build reliable infrastructure and put in place working leadership and government, if not, South Africa would have been as useless as Somali This is an illiterate way of viewing South Africa's development. Here is the educated way of viewing it: Starting from the 1800s, the colonialists re-invested South Africa's export proceeds into the economy because of the presence of a large white settler community there who saw it as 'their country'. In the rest of their African colonies there was no such huge white settler community, and so all the colonialists did was loot those territories. Resources were extracted and profits deposited in Europe. That is why Nigeria's literacy rate was 5% at independence despite white rule for 70 years prior. That is why Nigeria was an undeveloped bush at independence with malnutrition, nake.d children running around, and zero industries. We have come a long way since 1960. We have nearly 200 universities today compared to 0 at independence. Today, erstwhile villages like Abakaliki, Uyo and others now spot fancy expressways and shopping malls. Former empty space, Abuja, is now one of Africa's most beautiful cities, with a new world class airport from where you can catch a modern light rail train into the city centre. We may not be where we want to be (yet), but we have certainly not stood still. 6 Likes 1 Share |

Rosskiki:I just don't understand why so called educated youths don't know this and instead of asking for knowledge but will come here posting stupid comments about black curse and how whites should come back and enslave their fathers not mine. If the British was still ruling Nigeria the highest position their fathers can aspire too is as an interpreter, messenger or clerk for the white man. Why are this people so stupid, how can so called leaders of tomorrow be thinking like this in 2019. 9 Likes 3 Shares |

Nigerians have been getting educated since the 16th century, where is this other impression coming from? Under British rule, there were plenty of Nigerian professionals, they might not have been a majority but then again, with the high population and limited resources, how would it have been possible? |
Re: Evolution Of The Beautiful City Of Dubai In Pictures by Rosskiki: 3:56am On Nov 11, 2019 |
nlPoster: There were NOT ''plenty of Nigerian professionals'' under British rule. Who educated them? Where? Unless you're referring to professional tailors, hunters, barbers, and shoemakers. There was not one full fledged university in Nigeria at independence. Compare that to nearly 200 today post-independence. In South Africa by contrast, the colonialists built at least 10 universities before the turn of the 19th century. Their oldest university, the University of Cape Town, was built in 1829. And we are wondering why Nigeria, which had its first university in 1962, is not as developed as South Africa. Truth is we are playing catch up in black Africa largely due to colonial exploitation of our lands in the last 150 years. But we are moving forward. The current African regional integration could be the game changer for the continent. 1 Like 1 Share |

ednut1: Beyond that Dubai had a unique Vision, idea and concept not just to build skyscrapers and luxury houses bt to also attract people from around the world to believe in its idea. A lot of foreign parties and partners invested in Dubai besides the Arabs. It once was a shopping/shoppers haven of cheap bt luxury items if u remember in probably 2008 or so and then international real estate investment ideas when the real estate bug caught peoples attention and then 1stop destination for special vacations. There were progressions and stages of ideas that made it an attraction. My advice to Nigeria, its not about copy and paste of skyscrapers and don’t start/do what u don’t have the capacity to maintain or handle. We also need to change our thinking especially how we see and value ourselves and also in regards to the points u raised on corruption and resource ownership, control and application. There’s a whole lot. |

Rosskiki: There were plenty of Nigerian professionals under British rule, the high population is what makes you unaware of them. They were educated in Europe, specifically Britain. Some schooled in other west African countries. Not sure if we're on the same page. Perhaps your point is there weren't enough? Comparing Nigeria to South Africa in this context is not feasible, both countries have different histories. As per university education, Nigerians schooled overseas, as mentioned before. This was before and during the Commonwealth when visas were not required of members. |

This is a funny one, but let’s take a quick shot at it. For a start, Dubai is not a country, but an emirate - one of seven such emirates that make up the actual country, the United Arab Emirates. It’s a common mistake - Dubai as a city punches so far above its weight that many people recognise Dubai but don’t recognise the UAE or the Emirates as the country is also known. The United Arab Emirates was founded on the 2nd December 1971 as a result of the British withdrawal from its protectorate of what were then known as the ‘Trucial States’, a number of emirates in southeastern Arabia. They were called ‘trucial’, because they had embarked on treaty relations with the British, mostly in 1820 following a thorough bombardment of the coastal communities of the area by a British fleet sailing from Bombay. The bombardment was a subtle way of pointing out the alternative to signing - and not surprisingly, signatures were forthcoming. Dubai was a sleepy village until 1833, when the Al Maktoum family arrived at the head of a group of the Al Bu Falasah tribe, escaping the Ruler of Abu Dhabi down the coast, with whom they had fallen out mightily. They settled their coastal village with its fort and proceeded to fish for pearls, trade merrily as a coastal entrepot and generally get on with a precarious existence in a very harsh part of the world. By around 1904, the trading was going pretty well and Dubai was the pre-eminent trading port of the area, consolidating that status when the Persian government taxed its merchants beyond endurance and they responded to overtures from Dubai which invited them to nip across the Gulf and set up their concerns on the shores of Dubai’s lively little creek. Trading and pearling went hand in hand for a while until the 1920s, when a double whammy of the invention of the cultured pearl by a Japanese bloke called Mikimoto and the Great Depression hit the pearl industry. A rapid decline of the market for the previously prized Gulf pearls ensued and thousands of families were thrown into penury. The traders still traded, however, leading to an imbalance within the community that led to a state close to civil war. However, Dubai had by now evolved as a thoroughly open and opportunistic trading destination and then, as now, it looked around for new markets and new opportunities. It found them in the form of trading gold across to India, where importing gold was illegal. Gold was brought in from London via Sharjah, where the only airport in the area existed at the time, and shipped across to India, where the Dubai boats were very careful to hove to just off Indian international waters and transfer their cargo to the customers - Indian merchants who would then take the gold across to India. The trade was underwritten by British banks and was just on the right side of smuggling. Dubai was careful to let the Indian customers handle that side of things. That trade helped to finance the building of Dubai’s infrastructure and commercial traffic - particularly re-exporting - grew and grew at a breakneck pace under the visionary leader of the time, Sheikh Rashid Al Maktoum. By 1969, after all of the Emirates had been looking for oil for decades (Abu Dhabi found it in the 1950s), Dubai discovered oil - a tiny oil field that would be called ‘Fatah’, or ‘Victory’. The oil find, small though it was, helped to accelerate Rashid’s plans and he constructed a deep sea container port, upgraded the airport, built a World Trade Centre - the biggest building in the Middle East in its time - and all manner of other infrastructure designed to propel Dubai onto the world stage as a major trading hub. His work was carried on by his sons, Maktoum and then, on Maktoum’s death, Mohammed - the current Ruler of Dubai as well as Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates - really hit the gas, accelerating the already fast pace of development and transforming the government of the UAE in a series of far-reaching reforms. Dubai has been shaped into a global city, home to the worlds’ tallest building, busiest airport, leading international airline, largest man made harbour etc etc etc. I often hear people dismiss Dubai’s achievement as ‘just oil money’. It’s not, not by a long chalk. Oil revenues account today for less than 3% of the city’s GDP. The answer is, in fact, trade. A lot of hard work, a bit of fancy footwork, a number of booms and busts weathered and a huge amount of relentless development. Arguably vision and a sharp focus on the future. But trade. Always trade. 2 Likes |

balosammy: My sentiments as well. I visited the UAE evolution musuem, in Khalifa Park, Abu dhabi and was amazed by their transformation. Opportunities, timeline, weather, terrain etc all similar to Nigeria and Nigeria could easily have had similar if not better outcomes. The only difference was the vision of those in whose hands power laid. I am still very sad and traumatised by our clueless Nigeria still is. |

Rosskiki: Really? Nothing to do with the failure of leadership at all levels from your fellow black ass niggas who loot their people dry? Nothing to do with an unproductive culture where people breed like rats and immerse themselves in religious mythology? "Colonial exploitation" is why you produce little of value beyond unprocessed commodities and natural resources, why you dump garbage in drainages, why you urinate and litter everywhere, why stone age pastoral conflicts still afflict your country in the 21st century? That is all because of "colonial exploitation", abi? 1 Like |

24kmagic: What you wrote here is sad and tragic. The Chinese in 1978 were desperately poor but but today are a high middle income country. South Korea was probably poorer than Nigeria is 1960 but are over 10 times richer then us today. These people could have echoed your very words and say God punished them because they were Chinese or Koreans and blessed the whites instead. Your race has no determination on your future. Bahamas, a black nation is the richest country in the Carribean or even South America and it has no natural resources. Botswana is one of richest countries in Africa with a per capita income of over $10,000. Nigeria is barely $2,500. Some of the fastest growing countries in the world today are African. Ghana, Ethiopia, Rwanda and Ivory Coast international are all growing fast and will be come upper middle income countries in about 20 years if they continue at the present growth rates. The black government in South Africa has tried despite the chronic poverty among the blacks it inherited. Also, the South African economy was in very bad shape. They have tried but could do better. 3 Likes 1 Share |

As jawdropping the success of Dubai is, Lagos can achieve the same or even more. All that's necessary is: 1. Slash corporate tax to 10%. 2. Privatise or fully hand them over to private operators. 3. Same for major seaports. 4. Privatise collection of import duties an VAT to a private company. 5. Slash import duty on capital goods to zero and on consumer goods gradually to 8%. Lift all import bans and peg their duties to no more than 20%. 6. End petroleum subsidies. Deregulate the price of electricity and liberalize the energy sector further. 7. Slash lending rates to single digits. etc etc 2 Likes |

A comfortable life in this country is possible only with a salary of $ 6,000 per month, otherwise, you will limit yourself in everything that will very quickly become annoying. Although there are no taxes in the country, the local state is a huge dark hole and you have to pay a lot of money for everything. The starting salary for a developer is $ 3000. However, for a relatively comfortable life, this will not be enough. I work in one of the coworking https://theplace.group/office/the-one-tower offices. But this is additional income. Dubai is beautiful in the picture and has really grown over the years. But there are downsides and you already know about them. |
