I just don't understand why so called educated youths don't know this and instead of asking for knowledge but will come here posting stupid comments about black curse and how whites should come back and enslave their fathers not mine. Beyond that Dubai had a unique Vision, idea and concept not just to build skyscrapers and luxury houses bt to also attract people from around the world to believe in its idea. A lot of foreign parties and partners invested in Dubai besides the Arabs.

It once was a shopping/shoppers haven of cheap bt luxury items if u remember in probably 2008 or so and then international real estate investment ideas when the real estate bug caught peoples attention and then 1stop destination for special vacations. There were progressions and stages of ideas that made it an attraction.


My advice to Nigeria, its not about copy and paste of skyscrapers and don’t start/do what u don’t have the capacity to maintain or handle. This is a funny one, but let’s take a quick shot at it. For a start, Dubai is not a country, but an emirate - one of seven such emirates that make up the actual country, the United Arab Emirates. It’s a common mistake - Dubai as a city punches so far above its weight that many people recognise Dubai but don’t recognise the UAE or the Emirates as the country is also known.

The United Arab Emirates was founded on the 2nd December 1971 as a result of the British withdrawal from its protectorate of what were then known as the ‘Trucial States’, a number of emirates in southeastern Arabia. They were called ‘trucial’, because they had embarked on treaty relations with the British, mostly in 1820 following a thorough bombardment of the coastal communities of the area by a British fleet sailing from Bombay. The bombardment was a subtle way of pointing out the alternative to signing - and not surprisingly, signatures were forthcoming.

The oil find, small though it was, helped to accelerate Rashid’s plans and he constructed a deep sea container port, upgraded the airport, built a World Trade Centre - the biggest building in the Middle East in its time - and all manner of other infrastructure designed to propel Dubai onto the world stage as a major trading hub.

The Chinese in 1978 were desperately poor but but today are a high middle income country. South Korea was probably poorer than Nigeria is 1960 but are over 10 times richer then us today.

Bahamas, a black nation is the richest country in the Carribean or even South America and it has no natural resources. Botswana is one of richest countries in Africa with a per capita income of over $10,000. Nigeria is barely $2,500.

It's very funny when some Nigerians say that Nigeria was developed when the British colonised us.

When they didn't even build a single University.

As jawdropping the success of Dubai is, Lagos can achieve the same or even more.

All that's necessary is:

1. Slash corporate tax to 10%.

2. Privatise or fully hand them over to private operators.

3. Same for major seaports.

4. Privatise collection of import duties an VAT to a private company.

5. Slash import duty on capital goods to zero and on consumer goods gradually to 8%. Lift all import bans and peg their duties to no more than 20%.

6. End petroleum subsidies. Deregulate the price of electricity and liberalize the energy sector further.

7. Slash lending rates to single digits.
