You're only ahead because our real estate has been having some trouble - which are now history. Before 2016 - our cement production & consumption - has been growing at double-digit. Now it's been regressing. In fact we use to do double Tanzania - but the laggards are catching up - as a credit to the housing sector has been basically frozen for 3yrs now. Therefore we cannot use cement consumption per capita to blindly conclude you're doing better than Kenya. https://www.nation.co.ke/business/Real-estate-sector-performance-dropped/996-5305698-1i2llt/index.html Now that issues have been resolved - expect kenya cement production and consumption - to recover and zoom past the laggards. Of course because our economy is well diversified - a problem in one or two sector - doesn't send us to IMF ICU room. vaxx2: 2 Likes |

I am talking 2018 and 2019. 2018 according to IMF/WB - TZ economy grew by 4.2 or 3.9% - and this year they had projected either of those numbers - while your gov is always claiming a fake 7% growth. Meanwhile, TZ currency has continued to weaken against USD... expect to soon be with Ghana in IMF ICU room. It going to be very expensive and painful for Tanzania because they have nurtured and entertained a dictator. Acadavah: 2 Likes |

rvp20182:You are making more noise . what causes the introduction of your goverment to cap interest rate? if not poor governance tell me ? You lending pattern as been sluggish for a while now and it is evident in the performance of your micro economics . even your credit rating has suffer set back ....making IMF skeptical of further borrowing you.... Idiot , Ghana economy growth is majorly broad based not entirely oil and minig . Non-oil GDP has increased from 4.6% in 2016 to 6.5% in 2018 and is projected to reach 6.0% in 2019 and 6.7% in 2020. that is our non traditional commodity. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Just30:that is how a country develops, not a one city development like you have in Kenya. Nigeria practices federalism(partially) as such each state develops like a country. But I think you need to visit Abuja again, you missed Abuja |

rvp20182:You keep hiding under interest rate capping as if it is not a flaw from your governance. Your poor lending ratio push up the idea by your parliamentarian to introduce capping .... forgetting the impact on your micro economics performance ..... Per head is a factor in economics, it averagely give a valid judgement opinion on who is doing better . concrete statistics has proven we are doing 8 million in 2018 but you foolishly ignore that and drag up dangote who is just a secondary player in the cement industry in Ghana to form your porous opinion. An act of madness. so economically, per dangote 6 million 2018 data , we are doing far better than kenya .... Either per head or per consumption, Ghana is miles ahead of you. 2 Likes 1 Share |

I don't think folks who have been bailed out a countless of times by IMF have the moral authority of teaching us economics! https://www.economist.com/middle-east-and-africa/2019/06/22/after-its-16th-bail-out-ghana-hopes-to-put-the-imf-behind-it Sirens wailing, a black government car pushes through the traffic, past the beggars and street vendors, up a potholed road. Vehicles like these, the perks of a growing number of political appointees, are a common sight in Accra—and a source of popular outrage. Since Nana Akufo-Addo took office as president in January 2017 the number of government ministers has soared by 42% to 125, each with a car, guards and a taxpayer-funded home. Outside Ghana Mr Akufo-Addo has been hailed as a hero. When he was sworn in, it was as if he was a passenger in a plummeting aeroplane who had just been handed the controls. His predecessor, John Mahama, had taken a high-flying economy—growth was 17% in 2011 thanks to the first production of oil from its Jubilee Field—and promptly put it into a nose-dive. Under Mr Mahama inflation soared, the economy slowed and public debt ballooned, with much of the borrowed money squandered on higher wages for public employees. vaxx2: 1 Like |

I see the ratio of insults versus polemic is getting better - but there is still a dearth of facts. Modern democratic gov like Kenya has 1) Independent parliament - that amended the law introducing interest rate capping after popular demand from citizens. 2) The executive - led by the president - who for expedient reasons (the election was in 2017) did not veto the law despite Treasury advice. 3) Independent institutions like Central Bank of Kenya - who opposed the rate capping - and went to court. 4) Independent Judiciary - that for example annualed 2017 presidential election - 1st in Africa - and also declared the rate capping unconstitutional for interfering with Central Bank mandate to manage the macro-economics of the country- and gave Parliament one year to make the neccesary changes. Now that rate-capping has been done away - risky sectors like real estate that had been outprized - will now be able to borrow at 16% instead of 13% - and the money will flow again to the sector. We also have huge housing agenda - with intention to build 0.5M housing units. IMF had two main issues with kenya - rate-capping (history now) - and our GDP to debt (we were pilling debt - deficit bla) - and we are sorting that - because we are no longer leveraging - but mostly debt-refinancing. We are far from calling for IMF bail out. In fact if IMF gives us the 1.5B dollars - it very unlikely we will ever withdraw it - our economic fundamentals are good. As regarding to Ghana - what share of minning and oil (extractive industry) in your GDP? Answer without lacing it with insults. We can be friends you know - this is about Ghana a country - not your mother. So don't personalize it vaxx2: 3 Likes |

I have give you a synopsis of our rate-capping experiment in another reply - as for cement - it's easy - we are talking cement because it's a pretty good indicator of development. So it's a pertinent issue. My theory is our cement production & consumption tapered off due to interest rate-capping outprizing the real estate & construction from the credit market. If you get me Ghana's cement consumption and production from say 2008 to 2018 - and we juxtapose them against kenya cement data for the same time period - we can see if my theory is right or wrong. I am not betting on it. This is probably beyond your paygrade. vaxx2: 3 Likes |

Jonraid:IMF Don't manage economy, they give advice instead ..... Your country poor credit rating fercility is a testament of your poor governance. seeking IMF relieves isn't a biggy , but ability to manage the cash . your country was heavily under the high grips of China. you can't continue borrowing from one Paul to pay Peter. it doesn't work that well. IMF understand this and that was the good reason for stopping the credit arrangement with you Hopefully your Chinese debt case wouldn't bring you to become economy handicapped like Sri Lanka..... 1 Like 1 Share |

I think we bought their progressive story, hook, line and sinker. I didn't realize just how dysfunctional the country is. 16 IMF bailouts. I sort of had clues from Nigerians and I think when Kazibure questioned why their towns look whacky - I got interested to look at the numbers. I must say the more I dig deeper - the less rosy the picture. You cannot have people literally escaping the country like Somalis or Ethiopias - and you hear - they are adventerours or have money for flights kikuyu1: 2 Likes |

Owners of banking shares were Wednesday Sh38.3 billion richer after a surge in the lenders’ stock on news that Parliament’s finance committee had asked MPs to repeal a cap on commercial lending rates. Eight of the 10 banks listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) gained on what stock dealers linked to increased demand for the lenders’ shares on the expectation of increased profitability and stock gains. This marks the biggest single-day gain by bank stocks in many months, analysts said, in a share price appreciation that started on October 18 when news leaked that President Uhuru Kenyatta had demanded that lawmakers remove the cap on commercial lending rates. The rate cap really squeezed us although the economy continued showing its resilience.Almost all sectors felt it! The Mp's got it wrong at first,it's better now that they have corrected it. https://www.businessdailyafrica.com/news/Bank-shares-gain-Sh38bn-in-a-day-on-rate/539546-5331184-r4k2ce/index.html vaxx2: 1 Like |
