SAMUEL KALU Reveals His Two Best Positions; Partnership With Bordeaux Pal Josh Maja

Published: November 15, 2019

Samuel Kalu has revealed that his two best playing positions are the support striker and winger roles.

Predominantly a right winger, he has been deployed as a left winger by manager Gernot Rohr in his last two matches for the national team, with Villarreal's Samuel Chukwueze playing as an inverted winger.

Kalu showed his versatility by playing as a right wing-back in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa held in Johannesburg last year.

Speaking to our colleagues Naija Footballers via YouTube , Kalu said :''I can play both sides of the flank, I also play as a supporting striker.''

The Bordeaux number 10 went on to reveal that he has a great relationship with Super Eagles teammate Josh Maja on the pitch.

''It's all good, sometimes if we play together, we work together, he always tells me to give him the crosses.

''Anytime both of us are playing, he will know that he will have a lot of crosses, he has to put himself in a good position.''

Kalu netted the game-winning goal for the Super Eagles as they came from a goal down to beat Benin 2-1 in a 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match on Wednesday.

Samuel Kalu as a 10, why didn't I think of this earlier?

He's got the technique and is very mobile. But the vision, that final pass?? Ahh, can't say.

I personally dislike Players using NIGERIA to play Ludo whenever they are being approach too

It often irritate me that they never learn lessons from DELE ALI, GABRIEL AGBOLAHOR, JOHN FASHANU, CARLTON COLE, UGO EHIOGU, ROSE BARKLEY (though still playing) etc Who never played enough before being dumped

grin

Who is Rose Barkley?

He could do it as number 10 like he said and trust me, When a player says something about themselves, always believe them because it is coming from their heart.

Why not? If IWOBI can be deployed as a Winger and sometimes as AM, Why not KALU like he said.

According to information from CIES Football Observatory, Norway is the most preferred destination for Nigerian footballers.

Of the 327 expatriate Nigerian footballers in 65 associations out of 98, 24 ply their trade in the Norwegian Leagues.

Samuel Adegbenro, Babajide David (both Rosenborg), Jack Ipalibo (Strømsgodset), Akeem Latifu (Mjøndalen), Ifeanyi Matthew (Lillestrom), Leke James (Molde), Igho Ogbu (Sogndal) and Afeez Aremu are some of the Nigerian professional footballers that played for Norwegian clubs in 2019.

Nigeria national-teamers Fegor Ogude, Anthony Ujah and Nosa Igiebor plus former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel began their careers abroad with Norwegian clubs before transferring to bigger clubs in Europe.

Surprisingly, Nigerian players fancy playing in Bangladesh and the South Asian country is the second-joint importer of Nigerian players along with Scandinavian country Sweden (16).

At least fourteen Nigerian players are on the books of Portuguese clubs including Super Eagles stars Mikel Agu, Nwankwo Obiorah, Tyronne Ebuehi, and Uche Agbo.

Turkey and Latvia are joint-fifth on the list of Nigerian expatriate footballers, with thirteen Nigerian players each playing in the countries.

Most preferred? That's not true

Oga, quote me directly if you have something to say. Stop this backdoor thing.

I'm not French and thus they have the right to be mediocre and yes, I will make excuses for them.

But for Naija, No way. We have got to be better and yes it is possible. Algeria got transformed almost overnight by a determined coach. I'd like to see that from Rohr. Won't be surprised of Algeria makes it to the quarter final in Qatar.

Algeria has better players in better league. Their exploits is not wholely down on their gaffer

Who is Rose Barkley?
The very ROSS BARKLEY of Chelsea and formerly of Everton.

He opted for England over NIGERIA because of his divorced parents since mother is British.

Injury has also not been good too

The guy missed about 4 games due to injury, looks like the coach probably still has him in his plans cause he came back from injury and still made the bench. I still think he's our best winger based on his End Product. He should still be able to make it at Monaco just that the coach prefers a 4-4-2. Maybe he can go on loan and get a good run of games just to restore his confidence

I knew Barkley in 2013.....this was during an interview where he said he could play for Nigeria as well as England...

This was after Nigeria had won the nation's cup with Victor Moses who had played in the junior English teams being an inspiration for Barkley.
