What a journey.
DAAD scholarship application submission: October 31, 2018
I submitted a few hours to the deadline. I was pregnant and my brain felt like it was stuffed with cotton wool. I had to write a PhD proposal and my brain was just not working. I almost gave up but my husband keep pushing and encouraging me. It's still a miracle how I was able to beat the deadline.
DAAD Scholarship: March 13
I gave birth to my daughter on the same day. Double blessing. No, the excitement didn't push me into labour. My baby came first.
AD: July 18
Got there before 6am. I was the first person they attended to because I was a breastfeeding mother. Mr Paulinus was very gentle and kind.
The VO told me I applied too early and that I would have to go back and book a new appointment in October. I almost broke down in tears. I had travelled from the east to Lagos with my husband and my little baby because I was exclusively breastfeeding. Spent almost 200k on return flight tickets and hotel bills and dude wanted to send me back. Ha! I started begging with everything in me. Thankfully, he was able to get permission from his superior to accept my application. However, he told me that it would not be processed till October. Pheew!
I didn't post an interview transcript because there was none! He just took my documents and got my biometrics and told me that the interview was over. I was confused. He wanted to return my passport and I told him to keep it. I mean, I had submitted my application with my insurance documents so, there was really no point for me to have to send the passport later.
The VO was really nice and cheerful.
AM: October 21st
They just requested for my travel date. I responded on the same date. And then the wait began. I saw people getting their visa few days after AM and I was wondering why they had forgotten me. Fear. Anxiety. Confusion. I started sending emails. No response. Because my prepaid envelope was more than 3 months, I couldn't track it. I didn't know if they had sent it and got missing along the way. Emailed dhl last week and they had to check their archives and confirmed that it hadn't been sent. I called the embassy, the lady told me to check back next week. I decided to take my mind off it and focus on my work. Voila!
Visum: November 15
Start date: December 2
Thanks guys for all the updates! Here is to more AMs and Visa. And scholarship!

Hi guys, I was one of those who couldn't get an interview date from category B. I asked the school for an extension letter, they declined that but instead offered to send me my student ID as proof of enrollment.
Would this be sufficient if I get an interview date? |

Thanks Ma'am Hi MorrisEbosie, I'm afraid the application for 2020/2021 session is closed. However I suggest you keep checking http://www.funding-guide.de/ . There are always so many calls for application for different countries. The good thing is that you can refine the search. The particular one I applied for was for students in sub Saharan Africa. The deadline is usually on the 31st of October. It is a plus to already have an admission but you can apply while still applying for admission. The requirements are always stated in the call for application but let me mention a few requirements helps boost the application. 1) You must have a 1st class or second class upper division in your first degree. A good masters degree if you are going for PhD. 2) Your last degree should not be more than 6 years old. 3) Being in academics is an advantage 4) Having up to 2 years work experience is an advantage 5) IELTS band 6 and above 6) If you are going for a PhD, having some publications is an advantage 7) Being in STEM is an advantage 8 ) Good letter of motivation for Masters applicants and good Project proposal for PhD applicants. 9) PhD applicants should already have an agreement with a university Professor for supervision. 10) Curriculum vitae in table format 11) Good references from your University lecturers and/or employer 12) Try as much as possible to obey instructions and ensure your application is complete. Don't leave out any requirement hoping they will consider. These are all I could recall right now. Some important points might be missing. 14 Likes 2 Shares |
