So many of them cursed and insulted Rohr for not including him in the world cup team just because he scored a screamer against an experimental atm team in uyo.

Na so dem hype em Snr bother aka chidiebere 360 now he is playing in Vietnam or God knows where.

The problem with alot of super eagles fan is they tend to over hype our players expecially those who re yet to do anything tangible in the round leather game.

Many will curse, yell and abuse Iwobi in this thread but will make excuses for the likes of ajagun, kayode, Nwakali and azubuike even when they hv been below average.

Anybody that knows how to spot a talented player doesn't need to watch him play all season long to discover that.

How can you compare Ajagun and Kayode with Nwakali and Azubike?

Did those two players win best player and highest goalscorer in a league like Kayode did?

Did they win Motm, TOTW, etc like Ajagun did in Greece, Holland and now Belgium League?

ROHR’S SUPER EAGLES POLICY RESPONSIBLE FOR OLYMPIC DISASTER?
opera.com

Friday marked the end of a terrible year for Nigerian football, as the under 23 national team drew 0-0 with South Africa, a result that saw them eliminated from the race to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

A disjointed performance by the Eagles saw them fail to create significant goalscoring chances of note. And on the rare occasions when they did, a combination of bad decisions in the final third, and their own profligacy combined to deny them even the slightest chance of a sniff of goal.

The worst of the lit came with time running down when Taiwo Awoniyi picked out substitute Sunday Faleye at the back stick with time and space only for him yo head wide with the goal and its keeper at his mercy.

While there was hope that this team would at least make it to the semifinal and give themselves a chance to get to Japan, the reality was that they never stood a chance.

Imama Amapakabo did not get the players he wanted for this tournament. Those he did get, were simply not good enough or not playing enough at their clubs. And it showed. Kelechi Nwakali, for all his talent, was a liability rather than an asset for one and a half games, clearly needing match time.

Same thing applied to Taiwo Awoniyi, whose lack of game time at Mainz 05 was plain to see. Most of the others huffed and puffed and failed too blow anything down. Of the team’s key components, only captain Azubuike Okechukwu looked decent enough to wear the green and white shirt.

It is a disappointing end for Nigeria, a country with some of the best under 23 players on the continenty. Infact, most of the entire Super Eagles squad is composed of players under the age of 23 who would have been real contenders at the Games.

From goalkeepers Francis Uzoho (21) and Maduka Okoye (20), defender Chidozie Awaziem (22), midfielder Wilfred Ndidi (22) and forwards Samuel Kalu (22), Samuel Chuwkueze (20) and Victor Osimhen (20).

Osimhen, Awaziem and Uzoho were particularly critical to the team’s qualifying run to the Afcon tournament when they did play. But, apart from Uzoho who is injured, and Okoye who was called up straight to the Super Eagles, the others would have made a world of difference to this team’s qualifying race.

Unfortunately, Rohr’s policy of calling up, and making young players the fulcrum of his Super Eagles squad in combination with CAF’s decision to schedule their qualifiers and tournament at the same time as the senior team, has hurt the Olympic Eagles. Fatally.

So the best under 23 players were not available to represent the country and try to qualify for the Olympic Games. Meaning they will also miss a chance to show their worth at that level.

Not that Rohr’s strategy is a bad one, mind. It helps build a Super Eagles team that will last for at least a decade.

The problem, the real problem, is with the conveyor belt that processes talent out of Nigeria.

And the proof is right in our faces. The Olympic Eagles loss follows swiftly on the back of failures by the other national teams across the board, all in the last few months of the year.
The domestic players lost out over two legs to Togo in the race to qualify for the African Nations Championship. By the slim margin of one goal. One goal.

This followed the same team getting beaten by both Togo and then Cape Verde in the WAFU Cup.

Paul Aigbigun’s under 20 team were unceremoniously dumped out in similar fashion, as did the under 17 team at the World Cup.

The the Super Falcons, who had dominated Africa for years, were also eliminated from Olympic qualifying by Cote d’Ivoire.

Oh, and as an aside, Amapakabo has now set the dubious record of being the first Nigerian coach to fail with three national teams in record time. His list of infamy includes the CHAN Eagles, WAFU Eagles and now U23 Eagles.
His future as an international coach does not exactly look bright.
At least, not right now.

Our age group coaches do not go through an interview process. You just hear that someone has been appointed.

There should be a public advert and eligible candidates should be encouraged to apply. Let there be an interview process and the best qualified selected.

We can not continue this culture of NFF people employing their people. There are Nigerians home and abroad doing great things at youth level. Finidi and Olofinjana have had experience coaching youth players. I am sure there are some unknown quality coaches of Nigerian origin. Infact, if a qualified foreigner wants the job, he should be interviewed too.
Interview will be conducted and they'd still use padi padi to select an incompetent fool.

Josh Maja is no upgrade on Awoniyi.

Alhassan Yusuf- Was available. Imama failed here.

David Okereke- Might not even stay still the 19th.

Ejuke Chidera - Reports say he was stopped by his club.

Kingsley Michael- Another who can come in but won't stay till D-Day.

Igho Ogbu- Not better than Ozornwafor or and maybe on par with or slightly better than Olisa Ndah.

Onyekuru- Was available. Imama failed here too. I am sure Henry would not have minded jumping at the opportunity to help the U-23s knowing Rohr would be monitoring things too.

Zaidu Sanusi- His availability was not gonna be certain till D-Day and not certain he will do better than Bitok Stephen. Jury out on him there.

In all, Imama could have called up a couple more (better) quality players but he failed to do that. In all, "some" of the players (on the 21-man list) were selected based on absolute availability.

Josh Maja, Odey are upgrades on Awoniyi

You keep hyping that boy but its clear he got no talent

Shame on NTA for stealing the Super Eagles show
opera.com

Super Eagles were the ones playing the football but it was Nigeria's National Television Authority that took over the discussion during and after the game for its horrific live broadcast of the match.

WHY NTA WAS FORCED ON NIGERIANS

Late last week, SuperSport announced it will no longer broadcast any CAF content after the African football body abruptly terminated its $1-billion TV and marketing rights deal with broadcast agency, Lagardere Sports, through which SuperSport acquired broadcast rights.

“We are in a difficult position where we cannot broadcast the CAF games when we don’t have a firm contractual arrangement in place” said Joe Heshu‚ MultiChoice group executive for corporate affairs.

“SuperSport had previously acquired these broadcast rights from Lagardère.” He added
CAF cancelled the deal with the French-based company after an Economic and competitions court in Egypt pronounced it null and void citing a breach in competition rules.

This reality has thrown Nigeria and some parts of Africa into CAF content blackout which includes the ongoing 2019 U23 AFCON holding in Egypt, the AFCON 2021 qualifiers which began Thursday night and any other CAF related competitions.

In the light of this, Nigeria had to be creative in other to have the Nigeria vs Benin republic game on Thursday shown live to its numerous audiences, options were few and far between leaving NTA as the only choice to broadcast the match from Uyo.

No prizes for guessing how that went. Within 5 minutes of watching, the hashtag #ShameOnNTA was already gathering numbers on Twitter trend list, and was topping the chart my the time the game was over.
Let me share the hilarious ones with you before the serious ones.

This show of shame has taught us nothing new. Without SuperSport, Nigeria can’t boast of an indigenous broadcast company which is extremely sad. In fact, we can’t do anything on our own.

AIT at some point showed live games but that too has been swept to the curb.

After many years of evolution in picture broadcast, it appears Africa's Largest TV Network as they continue to tag itself, have refused to move with the time and are stuck in a time capsule dating back to the 80s while the rest of the world flourishes.

I won’t criticize the cameramen or the production team at the stadium in Uyo, a lot of these lapses mostly aren’t their fault. Truth is, they can’t give what they don’t have because the quality of content produced boils down to the equipment made available to them.

In all of these, that commentator who said Alex Iwobi is an Arsenal player obviously was high on something cheap. what in the name of beer parlor commentary was that gibberish?

I totally sympathize with those who saw the match, it must have been a torture having to sit through that 90 minutes just to see their dear Super eagle beat Benin republic 2-1, with goals from Victor Osimhen and Samuel Kalu.

was it not crystal clear that if not for the likes of oshimen and uzoho this team won't have qualified in the first place...

first thing first as a national team coach call up competent/right players, dont invite based on sentiments
secondly always rewatch yr match tapes, i mean previous match tapes and draw up areas that needs to be worked on

watch and try gather information on how your opponents play

with the few points above anyone can achieve tangible results especially with the first, the first have been helping rohr even though he can't be said to be full tactical competent but his players invitation and scouting is always close to perfection.

At this point, Osimhen is miles better than Awoniyi. We saw what Osimhen brought to the under 23 when he played. I do not hold out much hope for the likes of Awoniyi and Nwakali, right now. I still rate Iheanacho far above Awoniyi. Iheanacho has scored whenever he was given a chance this season.

Many Nigerian Journalists want to see Rohr fired. Some of these journalists are paid by agents to promote this. They want to return us back to the era where they can settle the coach to invite a player.

This year has shown us what happens when we abandon merit.

Our local coaches have shown that they are incapable of avoiding the lure of $$$ for the chance at glory.

Now, Pinnick is trying to introduce a local league quota into Rohr's new contract compelling him to pick players in the local league. What exactly does this achieve? Why do we love to promote mediocrity?

Where are all the local players promoted by Keshi?? Unfortunately, this idea of getting local players into the super eagles is for selfish interests. They just want to sell players, simple.. It does nothing for the league. The real steps needed to improve the league are not been taken.

I hope they will not destroy the super eagles too.

For the sake of the super eagles, I sincerely hope that Rohr turn down that yeye contract, so that the NFF will be forced to give the man what he wants and remove some useless clauses that will only benefit the pocket of NFF stakeholders instead of the good of the team, by the time Nigerians lights their ass on fire
