Austine1212:Half of the stalls are owned by white south africa and the money is repatriated back to new Zealand and many of their real origin.... Ghana middle income class is much in informal settings and it is getting bigger continuously ... . what we actually don't have is the population. but continuous economy growth will change that effect when we were able to afford bigger GDP. which will translate into bigger GDP per capital. I actually want a moderate population not exceeding 45 to 50 million to do that. I want a slow growth population when we reached there. Go and read about Ghana international mall. it is not gonna be the biggest mall like the one in Casablanca morroco but it will definitely match many malls both in west and south Africa. This is the 3d...... 1 Like 1 Share

Troy404:It is you guys who needs to think.... I have submitted an authority accepting it. but unneccasry ego to correction will not let you. ""Kibera Facts & Information There are approximatly 2.5 million slum dwellers in about 200 settlements in Nairobi representing 60% of the Nairobi population and occupying just 6% of the land. Kibera houses about 250,000 of these people. Kibera is the biggest slum in Africa and one of the biggest in the world. Land Ownership The Government owns all the land. 10% of people are shack owners and many of these people own many other shacks and let them out to tenants. The remaining 90% of residents are tenants with no rights. Housing The average size of shack in this area is 12ft x 12ft built with mud walls, a corrugated tin roof with a dirt or concrete floor. The cost is about KES 700 per Month (£6). These shacks often house up to 8 or more with many sleeping on the floor. The population The original settlers were the Nubian people from the Kenyan/Sudanese border – they now occupy about 15% of Kibera, are mostly Muslim and are also mostly shack owners. The other shack owners are mostly Kikuyu (the majority tribe in Nairobi) – although in most cases they do not live there but are absentee landlords. The majority of the tenants are Luo, Luhya and some Kamba – these people are from the west of Kenya. There are many tensions in Kibera, particularly tribal tensions between the Luo & Kikuyu, but also between landlord and tenant and those with and without jobs. Electricity Only about 20% of Kibera has electricity. UN-Habitat is in the process of providing it to some parts of Kibera – this will include street lighting, security lighting and connection to shacks (this costs KES 900 per shack, which in most cases is not affordable). Water Until recently Kibera had no water and it had to be collected from the Nairobi dam. The dam water is not clean and causes typhoid and cholera. Now there are two mains water pipes into Kibera, one from the municipal council and one from the World Bank. Residents collect water at KES 3 per 20 litres. Sewage In most of Kibera there are no toilet facilities. One latrine (hole in the ground) is shared by up to 50 shacks. Once full, young boys are employed to empty the latrine and they take the contents to the river. UN-Habitat and a few other agencies are trying to help and improve this situation but it is painfully slow. Medical facilities and HIV/AIDS Clinics In Kibera there are no government clinics or hospitals. The providers are the charitable organisations: AMREF, MSF, churches plus some others. They do a great job. All people are encouraged to have a free HIV test and if positive to take free generic ARV medicine. Changaa This is cheap alcoholic brew. It is widely available, very strong (over 50% alcohol) and made incorrectly, so is usually very high in Methanol. The cost is only KES 10 per glass and after a couple of glasses people become very drunk. With over 50% unemployment in Kibera many start drinking early in the morning leading to problems of violence, crime, rapes etc. Several charities are trying to help by showing the Changaa makers how to make the drink less dangerous. Drugs Cheap drugs and glue sniffing are an increasing problem. Initially taken to alleviate boredom but then people find themselves hooked. A big challenge to the charities! Abortion Due to many men still not using condoms and the availability of Changaa, many girls become pregnant, at any one time about 50% of 16 to 25 yr old girls are pregnant. Most of these pregnancies are unwanted, resulting in many cases of abortion. This can be very dangerous, particularly in such a poor area as Kibera. Many charities are working on this problem. Unemployment Kibera is near the industrial area of Nairobi where up to 50% of the available workforce are employed (usually in fairly unskilled jobs). However, there is still an unemployment rate of 50%. This is why the training and teaching of skills is very important. Sport Most young people in Kibera have nothing to do, obviously it is better for them to have the opportunity to take part in sport and several organisations are working on this. Nairobi Slum Survey The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) produced a report which provides many different statistics relating to the slums of Nairobi, including facts about Kibera. You can download the 212 page here"": https://www.kibera.org.uk/Reports/Nairobi%20Slum%20Survey%202012.pdf The report is not my own doings...... 1 Like 1 Share |

vaxx2: Stop forcing yourself to believe what you want to believe. Here is the 2019 census population of Kibera. Remember only part of Kibera is a slum thus of the 185,000, probably less than 120,000 live in the slum (Areas like Upperhill, Woodley, Ayany, Mimosa, Olympic are part of Kibera yet are not slums). I would have attached the whole pdf file but it can't upload on this forum. 2 Likes 1 Share

samorobo:per Reuters statistics, it has go down to 7 hundered thousand......and That is 2016. we can give an approximation of 4 to 5 hundered thousand not to be biased and coherent .... But that approximation can only be valid based on their development agenda....... Their 2019 census didn't provide statistics on that ..... Kenyans can only guess at large as possible... |

vaxx2: So I'm giving you the actual official figures of a census and you are giving me data from blogs. Which of the two are facts? Furthermore, Kibera's population was 170,000 in the 2009 census and now it is 185,000 so what reduction are you talking about? More still, the slum area of Kibera reduced between 2009 and 2019 hence out of the 170,000 in 2009, more people were in the slum than in 2019's 185,000. Stop believing what you want to believe and stick to the facts. 1 Like |

Austine1212:it doesn't matter who owns the malls cos even Japanese companies own multi billion dollars companies such as Toyata,Sony and co in the US who is far greater than Japan much more South Africans being richer than Ghana. That's their field which is retailing giants so you allow them to invest in what they're good at and capable. About our middle income and ability to house a 1000 store mall, well fyi the mall has already being built and will begin operations this year with their stores already booked and paid for and do you realise that our retail space in Ghana alone is over 24 billion dollars and will be over 33 billion dollars in the next five years. How do you see Ghana at all. We currently house the largest mall in West Africa and when the Ghana International mall begins operations,we become a retail and service hub in West Africa. We currently house over 12 malls in a country of 29 million people. Hope you're not surprised cos our GDP Purchasing power which is over 200 billion dollars is higher than that of Kenya and Tanzania with almost double our population. In 2014 alone more than 1 million Ghanaians were classified as middle-class income earners and since then our economy has grown about 50% more so do the multiplication. 1 Like 1 Share

vaxx2: Most are public companies ordinary south africans own share in those companies, Money is repatriated to south african economy. Whites in south africa are actual citizens just like black, indian, and chinese south africans. They have been in south africa for centuries, their ancestors are South African.SA is way different, it is diverse when you see Our companies in your country know that its a public company owned by south africans I see it will be west african biggest mall, dont make population an excuse Hong Kong has just 10 million citizens but its economy is 100 times than Ghana. Nigerias population is 4 times bigger than SA but the GDP is almost equal. |
