Ogun signs MoU with Britain on urban renewal guardian.ng Nov 16, 2019 4:47 AM Secretary to Ogun State Government, Tokunbo Talabi (left), signing the Memorandum of Understanding on ‘Future Cities Nigeria’ with Guy Harrison of the British High Commission, in Abeokuta…Thursday. Ogun State government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the British High Commission towards bringing urban renewal and public transportation up to speed with global best practices. The governor, Dapo Abiodun, has also commiserated with the victims of the fire incident in Sango Ota on Thursday night. Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, who signed on behalf of the State Government, and Head of Future Cities Programme of the British High Commission, Guy Harrison, agreed that it had become expedient to be futuristic. The partnership drive between Ogun and Britain is captured under the ‘Future Cities Nigeria’, a United Kingdom-funded urban renewal programme with a timeline of three years. According to the programme outline, UK will provide support for the Ogun transport sector. The British government will also fast-track housing and urban developments in Ogun, which is facing the challenge of absorbing spill-over of the population explosion in Lagos. Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony at the Governors’ Office in Abeokuta, Mr. Talabi commended the initiative, saying it would complement the various efforts of the state government in its desire to plan for a common prosperous future for the people of the state and for physical infrastructure. Talabi noted that the present administration was committed to providing the enabling environment for such partnerships to thrive seamlessly. His words, “We thank the British government and the Future Cities Nigeria for this laudable initiative targeted at planning towards the future in Ogun. This level of support cannot be diminished because the Dapo Abiodun-led administration is determined to change the narrative on how things are done.” On his part, Harrison said that the team was in the state to support the viable policies of Abiodun, to fully maximise the benefits of urban renewal and transportation available. He promised that the support of Britain for urban renewal and public transportation in the state would be total. The primary focus, he noted, would be to develop the capacity of the people and the state at large. “The British High Commission is extremely delighted with the state government on the various policies on sustainable development, job creation, poverty reduction and many others targeted at giving the people a new lease of livelihood,” he added. Also, the Team Lead for the Future Cities programme, Simon Gusah, underscored the importance of planning as a prerequisite to nation-building |

This are the kind of things I was told to hear.. Anambra govt flouts start-up programme, doles out N5m each to 150 youths November 16, 2019 Okechukwu Onuegbu 0 Obiano Anambra state government said it has launched a start-up programme geared towards training and empowering about 150 youths from the state to become job creators. The two weeks programme coined Youth Entrepreneurship Startup (YES), would among other things, help to intimate youths on how to identify a viable business, make a good business plan, nurture, execute and sustain a good business. According to the state Commissioner, Ministry of Youths and Creative Economy, Mr Afam Mbanefo, the training which would be held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (Unizik) Business School, Awka next year had begun with online registration. “Intending participants are to register at www.anambrayouths.ng before it closing date which is on January 15, 2020. We shall consider mostly Anambra youths between 18 to 35 year old who are creative. “It is going to be transparent. The programme was designed in line with governor Willie Obiano’s resolve to get our youths off the street and make them employers of labour. There are different packages available for applicants to enroll for like one youth one skill, smart job programme and others. “There are areas applicants are required to fill their business ideas. At the end of the training about 100 to 150 people would be selected based on already established criteria, certified, empowered and mentored to practicalise the skills. “At the end of the programme, up to 100 participants with the best business plan would be selected and funded up to the tune of N5m which is to be disbursed in tranches upon satisfactory execution of the agreed business implementation plan.” Contributing, Prof. A.U Nnonyelu, the Director, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) Business School, hailed governor Obiano for the initiative, adding that it would help to address unemployment which according to him was a major challenge facing the country. “At Unizik business school, we help youths to discover and develop their skills and occupation. We are happy that the government apart developing and sponsoring this programme is going to give financial support to those selected to help them start the business because paucity of funds affect business a lot,” he stated. vaxx2: Extremely skewed. That is a reflection of which countries' citizens visit which country depending on which credit card is most popular in the source market. Look at the map below. Notice American express is the most popular in US, and the US is Kenya's largest source market for tourists. So American tourists visiting Kenya would use American express not mastercard, and that would reflect as fewer visits in your mastercard data. Ghana and Nigeria use master card mostly. I suspect a good chunk of those Accra visitors were Nigerians. 2 Likes

TayserMahri:If I go by your logic here, I will also conclude the master card has no basis since the most popular card in Ghana is visa , the third on your map... we couldn't get accurate figure since not all visitor are registerd unless you are limiting it to those who pass thru the airport... Yes Nigeria are good larger chunk of visitors in Ghana particularly from neighbouring country just as you have more Tanzania and Uganda visiting your country than Americans. But Nigeria mostly use visa card not master card ..... And using this year statistics from the authority , Americans visiting Ghana percentage has increased by 30 percent and that of United kingdom has also double by 11 percent.... it is expected to move up again by December when the year of return event start. there is no evidence of your mombasa or Nairobi doing it better than Accra in terms of visit if you failed to trust payment card system which is globally recognised . 1 Like |
