Click to read Women's Inheritance Laws In Islam What is the stance of the current Jewish and Christian scriptures on women’s inheritance? We can say that the stance of the Christians is summarized in this statement in Mathew [5: 17] where it says, “17Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.” This indicates that the Christians’ viewpoint is subordinate to that of the Jews and is derived from the laws of the Old Testament. So, let us check the holy scriptures of the Jews and Christians to be acquainted with their point of view on that issue as part of the way they regard women. In these scriptures, women are not entitled to inheritance, and they have the right to inheritance only in one case: when they do not have male siblings. The Book of Numbers [27: 8-11] reads: 8 “Say to the Israelites, ‘If a man dies and leaves no son, turn his inheritance over to his daughter. 9 If he has no daughter, give his inheritance to his brothers. 10 If he has no brothers, give his inheritance to his father’s brothers. 11 If his father has no brothers, give his inheritance to the nearest male relative in his clan, that he may possess it. This is to be a legal requirement for the Israelites, as the LORD commanded Moses.’” Thus, their holy book gives all the inheritance to male children. If the deceased leaves no male children, only then his female children can inherit him. What is even worse for the woman is that she is not only deprived of inheritance, but also deprived of her dowry -- a right that Islam grants her. Moreover, she is the one required to pay a dowry to the one who proposes to her. She pays him so that he will agree to marry her. Otherwise, she will remain a spinster. In fact, talking about the issue of women’s inheritance in Jewish and Christian scriptures is pointless, because women themselves are part of the inheritance as deemed by Jews and Christians. The widow is part of the inheritance belonging to her husband’s brother, who would consequently marry her even if she does not approve of him or even hates him. In reality, this process is not marriage in the known sense of the word; rather, it is inheritance or, more precisely, rape. The Book of Deuteronomy [25: 5-7] reads: 5 If brothers are living together and one of them dies without a son, his widow must not marry outside the family. Her husband’s brother shall take her and marry her and fulfill the duty of a brother-in-law to her. 6 The first son she bears shall carry on the name of the dead brother so that his name will not be blotted out from Israel. 7 However, if a man does not want to marry his brother’s wife, she shall go to the elders at the town gate and say, “My husband’s brother refuses to carry on his brother’s name in Israel. He will not fulfill the duty of a brother-in-law to me.” They considered the woman a mere animal that is inherited by the family of the deceased who are absolutely free to dispose of her. Has anyone read, heard or imagined a more offensive way of degrading women, their humanity, femininity and chastity than this? As the previous text from the book of Deuteronomy is the Canon (or The Rule), let us read about the application of this Canon in the Book of Genesis [38: 6-11]: 6 Judah got a wife for Er, his firstborn, and her name was Tamar. 7 But Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the LORD’s sight; so the LORD put him to death. 8 Then Judah said to Onan, “Lie with your brother’s wife and fulfill your duty to her as a brother-in-law to produce offspring for your brother.” 9 But Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so whenever he lay with his brother’s wife, he spilled his semen on the ground to keep from producing offspring for his brother. 10 What he did was wicked in the LORD’s sight; so he put him to death also. 11 Judah then said to his daughter-in-law Tamar, “Live as a widow in your father’s house until my son Shelah grows up.” For he thought, “He may die too, just like his brothers.” So Tamar went to live in her father’s house. This text narrates the application of the theory of inheriting the widow by the deceased’s brother. The example here applies to Er, the son of Judah who died and left his wife, Tamar. Therefore, Judah commanded his son Onan, Er’s brother, to live with his brother’s widow so as to give birth to a boy carrying the name of Er. Is there any dissolution worse than this? Let us complete the worst part of the story. When Onan knew that his children from Tamar will carry the name of his dead brother, not his own name, he did not approach Tamar. Therefore, the God of the Holy Book became angry with Onan and put him to death. Consequently, Judah ordered his daughter-in-law Tamar to go back to her father’s home until his third brother grows up and inherits her. The Book of Genesis [38: 12-26] continues the story: 12 After a long time Judah’s wife, the daughter of Shua, died. When Judah had recovered from his grief, he went up to Timnah, to the men who were shearing his sheep, and his friend Hirah the Adullamite went with him. 13 When Tamar was told, “Your father-in-law is on his way to Timnah to shear his sheep,” 14 she took off her widow’s clothes, covered herself with a veil to disguise herself, and then sat down at the entrance to Enaim, which is on the road to Timnah. For she saw that, though Shelah had now grown up, she had not been given to him as his wife. 15 When Judah saw her, he thought she was a prostitute, for she had covered her face. 16 Not realizing that she was his daughter-in-law, he went over to her by the roadside and said, “Come now, let me sleep with you.” “And what will you give me to sleep with you?” she asked. 17 ”I’ll send you a young goat from my flock,” he said. “Will you give me something as a pledge until you send it?” she asked. 18 He said, “What pledge should I give you?” “Your seal and its cord, and the staff in your hand,” she answered. So he gave them to her and slept with her, and she became pregnant by him. 19 After she left, she took off her veil and put on her widow’s clothes again. 20 Meanwhile Judah sent the young goat by his friend the Adullamite in order to get his pledge back from the woman, but he did not find her. 21 He asked the men who lived there, “Where is the shrine prostitute who was beside the road at Enaim?” “There hasn’t been any shrine prostitute here,” they said. 22 So he went back to Judah and said, “I didn’t find her. Besides, the men who lived there said, ‘There hasn’t been any shrine prostitute here.’” 23 Then Judah said, “Let her keep what she has, or we will become a laughingstock. After all, I did send her this young goat, but you didn’t find her.” 24 About three months later Judah was told, “Your daughter-in-law Tamar is guilty of prostitution, and as a result she is now pregnant.” Judah said, “Bring her out and have her burned to death!” 25 As she was being brought out, she sent a message to her father-in-law. “I am pregnant by the man who owns these,” she said. And she added, “See if you recognize whose seal and cord and staff these are.” 26 Judah recognized them and said, “She is more righteous than I, since I wouldn’t give her to my son Shelah.” And he did not sleep with her again. It is strange that this incest produced a person who is well-acclaimed according to the gospels. It is Jesus Christ, the God of the Christians. Once more, but not the last time, who does justice to women and who wrongs them? Islamweb.net 2 Likes |

Ma shaa ALLāh No religion gives more right to women than Islam. Unfortunately, the corrupt society today that has turn women into slave and object of sex and public satisfaction made them view the islamic right upon women as backward. Recently I saw an advert with the following requirements - she must be a female - minimum if ond - must be beautiful I began to wonder when has beauty becomes a criteria for any job when not a prostitute. AlhamduliLLāh ala niimatil Islam. 2 Likes |

Let me educate you about Mat 5:7 You must first understand what Jesus meant by fulfilling the law. That means law itself is not absolute so Christ has to come and complete what law could not do. Under law we cannot be perfect but in Christ we have righteousness. God specifically gave 600 custom laws to Jews to differentiate them from heathen nations in the old testament. As for the prophets, there are prophecies left by these prophets which could be fulfilled only by Jesus. Isaiah 9:6-9, Isaiah 53:1-end. If Islam give right to women indeed then wives should beat their disobedient husbands? Why is it only women meant to cover themselves fully what happened to men? Why is it population of women are higher than men in hell? All these questions need to be properly addressed before we could believed any right exist for women. Thank u op. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Rashduct4luv: Secular law supersedes religious law (even sharia law) in terms of modernity and flexibility. For instance, without secular law, a 50 year old muslim man can legally get married to a 9 year old under sharia law. In sharia law, once a girl menstruates, she is ripe for picking. |

Rashduct4luv:The problem started with Mohammed and his messengers who viewed Christians and Jews as religious rivals, the same way Man City views Liverpool as a rival. If mohammed had just do his things and leave the Jews and the Christians alone their will be no issue. Even your al-fathiha (ayah 6-7) is all about Jews and Christian bashing. On the topic, muslim women are worst treated compared to women of other faith (or no faith at all). In a real muslim society like Saudi Arabia or Iran, women are: 1) Not allowed to go out alone 2) Not allowed to travel alone 3) Not alloweed to testify in the court of law against a man. 2-women testimony is equal to a 1-man testimony. 4) Not allowed to chose their own husbands; over 90% of marriages are arranged amd most of them are 1st cousin marriages. 5) Not allowed to drive. 6) Not allowed to come out without full covering, especially in saudi arabia. Iran allowed compulsory scarfs and it is punishable by long term imprisonment if a woman does not put on her head scarf.etc. Muslim coutries is the worst place to be a woman because Islamic countries has the highest level of misogyny worldwide. 4 Likes |

Solohmony: Stop feeding us with ideas that has no evidence. Jesus followed the law of Moses except the ones he changed. Jesus was asked this question about a woman who married one husband and he died. The woman married his husband's brother and he died. till the seventh. Jesus never condemn this custom of inheriting women wives. Matthew 22:25-32 New International Version (NIV) 25 Now there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died, and since he had no children, he left his wife to his brother. 26 The same thing happened to the second and third brother, right on down to the seventh. 27 Finally, the woman died. 28 Now then, at the resurrection, whose wife will she be of the seven, since all of them were married to her?” Luke 20:27-38 New International Version (NIV) 27 Some of the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Jesus with a question. 28 “Teacher,” they said, “Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man must marry the widow and raise up offspring for his brother. 29 Now there were seven brothers. The first one married a woman and died childless. 30 The second 31 and then the third married her, and in the same way the seven died, leaving no children. 32 Finally, the woman died too. 33 Now then, at the resurrection whose wife will she be, since the seven were married to her?” Solohmony: “And they (women) have rights (over their husbands as regards living expenses) similar (to those of their husbands) over them (as regards obedience and respect) to what is reasonable, but men have a degree (of responsibility) over them. And Allaah is All-Mighty, All-Wise” [al-Baqarah 2:228] “Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allaah has made one of them to excel the other, and because they spend (to support them) from their means. Therefore the righteous women are devoutly obedient (to Allaah and to their husbands), and guard in the husband’s absence what Allaah orders them to guard (e.g. their chastity and their husband’s property). [al-Nisa’ 4:34] Solohmony:It is Allah's command that they cover up in that way. Solohmony: This is as a result of ingratitude to their husbands, too much complains, nudity and other vices more widespread among them. 1 Like |

Rashduct4luv:Muslim coutries is the worst place to be a woman because Islamic countries has the highest level of misogyny worldwide; this is a statement of fact. On the evidence I have for all what I listed, you need to ask the government of Saudi arabia and Iran; they understand Islam more than you. Saudi arabia follow sunnah to the latter and their ulama who made those laws are not novice when it comes to Islamic laws and jurisprudence. As for the defense of christianity (or Judaism), aside religion, every region has it local laws and customs that make provision of women in terms of inheritance. These customs are not cast in stone, they evolve as the society changes. In Yoruba culture, the women has full inheritance at the demise of his/her parent. In Igbo culture, only the sons have full inheritance. However an Igbo man can decide to make his will, and will all (or some) his properties to his daughter and his right will be protected by the civil law that trumps traditional law. Every society has its own way of handling the issue of inheritance and Islamic or arab culture can and should never be used as a standard for that. Islamic law is synonymous to arab customs because over 80% of arab customs and traditions are not in the quran but in the hadith, most content which are tailored towards medivial arab society. As someone also mentioned earlier, your prophet also said that the largest percentage of inhabitants of hell are women and that women are also mentally deficient. If you need the hadith I will provide them for you. So stop speaking as if your prophet is basically for propecting women. How many female millionaires and enterprenuers do we have in the arab world? Women are traditionally placed at the back seat in the Islamic bus. 2 Likes |

Rashduct4luv:Nothing like 'the christian law'. No nation call their law 'christian laws', 'Budist law', 'Hindu law', 'Shinto law', 'Judaistic law', etc. Only in Islam we see such and it makes no sense because community is expected to operate a legal system that will accomodate the concern of everyone. Even in the so-called sharia laws, the law apply only to the poor and sharia laws are often used to oppress non-muslims, especially the apostasy and the blasphemy laws. As I said earlier, there is nothing like christian law because each society is designed to operate a moral justice system where societal order is maintained and the interest of all citizens are protected. In sharia law, non-cittizens are dihmmi who are to pay protection fees to the state (quran 9:29), convert to Islam, or die. 1 Like |

It's a relief to know that after reducing women to the status of animals whose presence can nullify prayers, muhamad allowed them to inherit property. Maybe he was trying to protect women from men who take advantage of their natural deficiency of intelligence Or maybe he just wanted them to enjoy life a little bit before they end up in their final destination: Rashduct4luv: |

true2god: In the OT which law exists back then? Law of God or that of man? So when did God permit man to make laws in the NT? When God was making laws for the nation in the OT it is acceptable but when Islam claims their God is the law maker now wahala dey! I think it's just because Christianity has no law and the OT laws are too tough to use. Also you can't take one and leave others. It will be hypocrisy. Except the law of tithes of cos. true2god: Who designed each society to operate a moral justice system where societal order is maintained? Is LGBT+& fornication societal order? Is it only Shariah law that is applicable to only the poor and not common law? We have seen it many times in our country where the rich gets away but the poor is not spared. That happens everywhere. But the Shariah is for all whether rich or poor. Muslims pay Zakah to the Islamic State while non-Muslims pay Jizyah. And what is the context of Qur'an 9:29 that you mentioned? |
Re: Women's Inheritance Laws In Judaism And Christianity by true2god: 7:29pm On Nov 16, 2019 |
Rashduct4luv:In all your statement you deliberately refused to mention the Jews, rather you use the world 'OT' in place of the Jews. It is common fact that the Jews have the Old testament laws, what is commonly known as 'the laws of moses'. In our past discussion, I told you that the Jewish law (the OT) is made up of the moral law, the dietary law (like not eating pork) and the ceremonial laws (sacrifice and ablutions before entering the synagogue). While the moral laws remains intact, like the 10 commandments, the dietary and the ceremonial laws have been mostly done away with after the coming of the new dispensation in Christ. The laws were fulfilled in Christ. And I told you that the Jews, before now, do yearly sacrifice of animals for the atonement of sins ( as part of the law) but it is no longer necessary because Christ's death was the final atonement for sins, so the religious sacrifice of animals were no longer necessary. This is how the law was fulfilled here. Not all laws in the old testament was given directly by God. Some were made by the society. Some laws, like the laws that deal with divorce, was not given by God but by the judges to solve urgent marital issues. It was not in God's plan for husband and wife to separate (Malachi 2:16). So when Christ came, he reemphasized the need for sanctity in marriage and taught that under no circumstances is divorce acceptable except for the sake of formication. But in the OT Jewish law, a man is free to divorce his wife anyhow and anytime he wants. You said Christianity has no law, this is a statement from ignorance. 99% of the world were not Christians as at 2100 years ago but each of the worlds, or societies, has their own moral and traditional laws that guide their day to day activities. When Christianity was introduced to some societies, it was not meant to erode the local laws and customs but to complement and make it better. In calabar, before the Christian era, the customs and traditions made it compulsory that twins must be killed. It was the Christian missionaries that abolished this customs and that does not mean that the people of calabar should abandon the good side of their customs and make their society a society that should be 100% governed by the Christians laws. That's cultural appropriation and will destroy local community. A society can maintain their local customs and laws and still be a Christian community. It is only the Arab-muslims that seek to destroy the tradition of a local community and impose an Arabic laws and tradition on them. This is cultural conquest and mental colonialism. The Muslims pay zakak while the Jews and the Christians are expected to pay the jizya with WILLING SUBMISSION and feel themselves SUBDUED (Qur'an 9:29). Jizya payment is to humiliate, subdue and disgrace Christians and the Jews in an Islamic state. Zakat is never meant to subdue or disgrace the Muslims but the Jizya is charged to humiliate the Christians, or they convert to Islam. Most people who cannot withstand Islamic humiliation chosed to become Muslims in order to avoid the humiliation of paying the Jizya. |

true2god:When you people quote your Book you say" the Bible says..." We understand this to mean it can be anyone talking whether God, man of God, enemy of God, wise man, foolish man, etc. The Bible should have only contain NT since the OT is almost irrelevant for Christians. But it's amazing when you preach in your churches using the OT when it comes to tithes and your mode of worship. Jesus Christ and his 12 disciples never sang songs nor clapped in worship. Are these two ceremonial, moral or dietary laws? Not all laws were given by God in the OT so people too do write scriptures on their own? The claim that the Bible is the word of God is false since societal laws are in the Bible. Doesn't this even negates your criticism of the Arabian culture among Muslims? Christianity does not change the traditions of a community. So if christians enters a community where idolatory is being practised, the people of the community will be left alone to worship their idols since it's their tradition abi? The Christians you say stopped the tradition of killing twins, why do they need to interfer with the custom of the people and then convert them to christians? How do you know which custom is good or bad? When it doesn't go against Bible teachings it's good right? But when Muslims do same they are terrorists! The custom of the Hausas is to usually marry more than one wife. Once an Hausa becomes a Christian, he does not obey this custom anymore. Is this not custom changed with Christian law? What has the Islam impose on Muslims living in Nigeria as a whole? When the missionaries invade our territories giving our forefathers who were Muslims Christian names for them to have Western education, this is not cultural conquest and mental colonisation. It is outright christianization! true2god: The Islamic state is for Islam and Muslims. Whoever is not pleased is not tied down there. You are in Nigeria or wherever, if you ain't pleased with your situation then migrate. As Muslims pay Zakah so the non-Muslims should have been left to pay nothing and enjoy protection and development for free. |

Rashduct4luv:Unlike Islam, Christianity does not patronize intellectual dishonesty. The mantra, 'the Bible is the word of God' is a generic statement to summarize the biblio (collection of books). The Bible is made of many books written by men under the inspiration of God, while others were written (by men) to guide the day to day activities of the society. There is no shame in that. But Islam made a claim that all the contents of the Quran (100%) are from Allah but facts and evidences have proved you wrong multiple times. The Quran contains the words and suggestion of Omar ibn kathab, the opinion and suggestion of many of the sahabas, and also Mohammed's personal desires. Look at the ayah below: Sahih International (Quran 33:53): O you who have believed, do not enter the houses of the Prophet except when you are permitted for a meal, without awaiting its readiness. But when you are invited, then enter; and when you have eaten, disperse without seeking to remain for conversation. Indeed, that [behavior] was troubling the Prophet, and he is shy of [dismissing] you. But Allah is not shy of the truth. And when you ask [his wives] for something, ask them from behind a partition. That is purer for your hearts and their hearts. And it is not [conceivable or lawful] for you to harm the Messenger of Allah or to marry his wives after him, ever. Indeed, that would be in the sight of Allah an enormity. Of course, as a very brainwashed person, you will believe that a god is not busy and will have time to give this ridiculous instruction. To Muslims, Allah is the speaking here but for over 80% of non-muslims part of humanity, this is the word of an insecure man who is not comfortable with the presence of men around his wives. Read the tafsir of Ibn Kathie to get the exegesis of this ayah and you will discover that Mohammed is funnier than basketmouth, the comedian. Of course the Europeans, though very bad set of people, introduced Christianity but never attempt to destroy local laws and customs (I never mentioned traditional religion) which are good. The invading Arabs always seek to destroy anything on the part and arabize the society. Look at Ilorin and look at Ekiti! I am happy you admitted that Islamic state is oppressive to non-muslims and they are free to leave the Islamic state if they can't cope with the oppressive laws of Islam. Remember, before Islam, the Christians, the Jews and the sabians are the traditional owners of the Arabia before Islamic invasion, conquest and the imposition of the Jizya. Do not complain if the Jews are giving the Palestinians a very small dose of the Islamic medicine. |
