Dennis should be tested there.. then we also have Okereke, Dessers, and Sadiq Umar. Yes Sadiq Umar

Icon4s:
Victor Osimhen is a beast. 2goals 2 assists!

But now we need a deputy. For me Onuachu is not an option.

The way y'all think that Collins will start in the afternoon, because according to you guys he's a sure banker to start as long as Rohr is coach.
Even Etebo won't say this. I'm sure he Knows that he now has work to do.

This is not the era of local coaches where senior team players just stroll into start line ups , even though there are better performing and deserving players. This time around, you are as good as your current form, and no more guaranteed spots. Rohr has shown us this time and time again

Forget the long talk. Etebo will get his spot right back.

The Super Eagles teams of the 2000s could only bag a maximum of two goals in a game vs Lesotho.

This current squad have delivered four away from home and on a tough playing turf. The Good days are here again.
You're not wrong but the 2000s set did not concede a goal.

Kenneth Omeruo's irregular game time at Spanish club CD Leganes counted against him when Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr chose the starting line-ups for the two recent Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin and Lesotho.

Udinese's Troost-Ekong is the only undisputed starter in the Super Eagles central defence, with Omeruo and Ajayi vying for the remaining spot.

While the former Chelsea man has not been involved in four of the last ten games played by Leganes in La Liga, his rival Ajayi has started 17 games for West Brom this season - 16 in the EFL Championship and one in the League Cup.

On why Ajayi partnered Ekong, Rohr told reporters including allnigeriasoccer.com after Sunday's win vs Lesotho: ''Semi is a good partner (for Troost-Ekong) but you know a team can change depending on what the players are doing in their clubs,''

''We had some players with injuries, they didn't play so much, Musa was one of them, he was injured, Omeruo also had the same problem.

''What we have is good competition for the starting positions.''

Today makes it exactly four months Omeruo last played a game for the Super Eagles and it was against Tunisia at the Africa Cup of Nations.

my brother the matter tire me. if rohr wants to bring in more centre halves he should go for any of uduokhai,
adarabioyo or iorfa. these guys are not better than ozonwafor but at least they are playing regularly in their respective clubs. i think the combo of ekong and ajayi should be tried more in subsequent games while omeruo should try to get back to reckoning at leganes

Let Ozornwafor start playing for his club first.

I think Dessers might be a good back up for Osimhen. He is doing very well this season.

The Bank-on Candidates to be Osimhen's genuine back-up especially as regards how we play in attack now...

The "bonafide" options:

- David Okereke

- Sadiq Umar

- Peter Olayinka

- Cyriel Dessers

- Kelechi Iheanacho (once that January move happens and he gets playing again and keeps showing good form)

The Dark horse Option(s); In with a chance probably in the long run if they step things up:

- Stephen Odey

- Josh Maja

- Taiwo Awoniyi

The "Manage-manage/mediocre" options (Not suited to how we play in attack):

- Ebere Paul Onuachu

- Simy Nwankwo

- Anthony Ujah

I hope Iheanacho joins an EPL team that will give him minutes. I do not like this Turkey talk. Go to Turkey and it is hard to come back to main stream Europe.

How but that's the truth. If dessers was as good as few clsim here I would hv been been clamouring for his inclusion in the team.

He is a decent player and hv been prolific so far this season but I will pick Okereke and olayinka ahead of him

My take: As things stand "now"

1. England:

Friendly- England still edges us in quality so they would be favorites. Could go either way

Tournament- England would be favs no doubt and would win slimly but don't rule out a draw or a shock win for Nigeria "if we can defend well and not concede more than 1 or 2".

2. Portugal:

Friendly: Portugal boasts too much quality and are tactical masters. They will beat us 2-1 or 3-1 or 3-2. I am sure we will score against them. The best we get is a draw.

Tournament: I would not want to meet them right now in a tournament setting. They are among the most heavily tactical teams on the planet and know how to win dirty too and win even when playing badly. If we meet, a shock draw is the best we can get.

3. Croatia:

Friendly: We will beat them. Worst will be a draw.

Tournament: That is an entirely different ball game and we know how tactically strong the Croats are and how much quality they posses. But with this current team, anything can happen here.

4. Austria:

Friendly: We will beat them.

Tournament: We will beat them. I know of their tactical strengths and form but Nigeria can run all over them if they play true to current form.

5. Denmark:

Friendly: We can nail them in a friendly. Could be a win or a draw for us.

Tournament: Tricky tie. Could go either way depending on who is more clinical but Nigeria can Nick it.

Note: The Nigerian team keeps evolving. All these are made with "NOW" in view. The team is expected to get better. Thanks goodness this is still 2019.

Ask this again in 2021. grin

darkelf:
On another note. What are the chances of the Super Eagles if we should play the following teams (in a friendly or tournament)?

1. England

2. Portugal

3. Croatia

4. Austria

5. Denmark

Coach wey get foresight cool

Manager Gernot Rohr has suggested that he was right to select Victor Osimhen over Leicester City frontman Kelechi Iheanacho in the Super Eagles 23-man squad list for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, which was an unpopular decision at that time

The former Bayern Munich defender reckons that Osimhen is now a better player after understudying Odion Ighalo, who retired immediately after the AFCON.

The Lille striker had his best performance in a Nigeria jersey on Sunday, scoring two goals and setting up two others as the three-time African champions came from behind to beat Lesotho 4-2.

Speaking at Sunday's post-match press conference after the win against the Crocodiles, Rohr told reporters including allnigeriasoccer.com : ''We had the best goalscorer in the AFCON, he wanted to retire and we had to find a solution.

''When I took Osimhen to the AFCON as part of the 23-man list, a lot of you were very critical, they asked why I didn't take Kelechi (Iheanacho) for example.

''He learnt a lot in the AFCON, watching, playing in the last match, seeing this very good goalscorer Ighalo, seeing Musa and now he is progressing.

''He's in a good club Lille in France and scoring a lot of goals, confidence is there and this good understanding with the other players is good for a center forward.''

Having scored two penalty kicks in previous games, Osimhen netted his first goals from open play in the win against Lesotho

It truly is a risky move but he has to go to where he is wanted and assured of playing time. Let's see what January brings for the lad. France or even Belgium would not be bad for the lad either.

Yes he played. He didn't have much of an influence in this game as he obviously struggled with the altitude and the strange playing turf. It was not his day at all and was rightly taken off later on.

That said... It was his first away game in Africa and his quality stands sure. He will surely see this as a learning experience as his young GWG career keeps blossoming.

Red-hot Super Eagles hitman Victor Osimhen is currently the rave of the moment after his star display in Nigeria's 4-2 victory against Lesotho on Sunday evening, and Nigerians could not resist drawing comparisons with some elite strikers to have played the game.

The 20-year-old scored two great goals after twice setting up his mates Alex Iwobi and Samuel Chukwueze at the Setsoto stadium, as they hauled back a deficit in some style after initially going behind to a goal from the opponents.

Thus, he has contributed directly to an astonishing six goals (4 goals, 2 assists) in his last four international games, and trust Nigerians not to sleep on it.

Below are some of the things they are saying regarding his sterling display,

@adebayoolum007: And my man, @victorosimhen9 , got his goal! He deserves that! At the right place, at the right time- the hallmark of a great striker.

@dani_ajiboy: Osimen on fire!!

@Dpaparaazi: Dy use 1 to collect 4. Osimhen will rule the world. He's an animal. We finally have our Yekini

@hobiaethon: Who is looking for Tammy when u have OsiGoal

@bayoadegboyega2 : Egbon, as far as goal scoring is concerned, after Ronaldo and Messi, Osimhen is next.

@DanielOnyem3: oshimen he is something else he's from another planet

@EdreezEl: Another rashidi yekini is back, Victor osimhen.

@jbarthrules: This boy @victorosimhen9 is a whole mood.. what a player, he will go on to do great great things.. 4 international goals and counting , we might just ve an all time best goal scorer in our hands ooo

@praizeonu: Osimhen proving his worth for the @NGSuperEagles2 goals ✌ 2 assist ✌

@NiftyNI22: Assisted Iwobi Assisted Chukwueze Scored!! Scored again!! Zanku on top!!! This man Oshimen!!!! #LESNGA

@olayinkasuraj: Victor Osimhen was literally involved in all four goals Nigeria scored today. 1.Made the tackle that led to Iwobi's goal 2. Gave a through ball for Chukwueze to nod in for the second 3. Scored the 3rd 4. Scored the 4th. Absolute gem!

@UNCLE_AJALA: Osimhen makes it 3 after he did 2 assists, one for Iwobi and another for Chukwueze. Osimhen is obviously man of the match with a brilliant performance. ⚽ Lesotho 1-3 Nigeria. Super Eagles are cruising to victory.

@slytudeme: Osimgoal is the striker Lewandowski wishes he was. Levels on this goal scoring matter

@nugwa: Look let's relax. He has potential but he's not there yet. But if he continues improving one day Lewandowski could be as good as Osimhen.

@kahunakome: Lewandowski has a poster of Osimhen on his bedroom wall

@theoddsolace: Victor Osimhen is quite special, isn't he? That connection with Chukwueze running in behind is starting to look like a sure thing
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2023, 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheSuperNerd(m): 3:02am On Nov 18, 2019
Yeah. But if the Belgian league offers him a chance to relaunch himself with nothing from France, I say he takes it. Especially with a team playing European football.

In all, playing in France will be better compared to Belgium but really what options does he have?

I hope he can even remain in England but if not then he has to go where he will be chances. So far, interest from the Turkish Giants is what we can confirm. Better options in perhaps France or Top 5 Belgium may pop up by the time January comes around.
